Thank you for this fabulous pod Dave. Pups' recollections were fab, brought back many memories. It's a cliche, but this man does need a repeat show 100%👍
Dave, there is some respected bike journalists doing bike racing podcasts, but every week you trump them with your interesting guests who give us average punters a really interesting insight to the paddock world. Really well done to you.
Incredibly kind, Peter, thank you. Funnily enough I see myself as an average punter who's just in a fortunate position to help guests tell their stories :-)
Thanks so much, CM. It gives me huge pleasure and no small amount of pride you’re trusting me to introduce you to the guys who are lesser known outside of the paddocks. I’ll always bring guests with stories and something to take away that you didn’t know before you sat down to watch. It’s hugely appreciated 🙂 now when watching the MotoGP coverage you can look out for both Matt and Mark 😊
Still remember seeing Joey at the 1999 International motorcycle show, at the Birmingham NEC. Him and Robert Dunlop (wearing cowboy hat) were both studying an SP1, on the Honda stand. The World superbike riders were being interviewed in the main area of the stand and it was pretty quiet where we were. After realising who it was, we just watched for a bit. Fascinated as they studied the new bike up close and eventually my mate, never shy to say a few words blasted out something like "That's effing Joey Dunlop! now that's a real effing road racer!". Which made him smile, then we shook hands and had a lovely photo taken with him.
Brilliant interview Loved hearing the stories. Remember that bike and engine in the Honda garage in 2000 and some of the Japanese technicians looking at Joey as if to say is this works engine for the old grey haired man. Glad he proved them wrong in the Formula one race..
Glad you liked the question Dave, and by all means feel free to use it again where applicable, I think I've added it to a few other relevant pods 'call to actions' for questions in the Patreon page. Loved the chat and definitely can't wait to hear more stories from all the mechanics and their history and various journeys...
Love hearing all the stories and what goes on behind the scene that we don't get see or know about, hope things work out ok for Mark with the current situation at KTM, thanks again Dave
Great interview again Dave..I had to set aside a time to listen to it.I used to love going to the ally pally show. Before that was a motorcycle mechanics show in the exhibition halls.great times, everything seemed more accessible then.
I know it’s a bit of a cliche, that’s all I can see to say, Dave another very enjoyable and interesting conversation behind the scenes or should I say technician. Look forward to the next one.👍
I was going to suggest doing some mechanics a few months ago 😋 Cracking show. Nick Goodison would be good (doubt he'll do it, though). Keep em coming 👌
I'll do my best to get a contact number for Nick, I was told he lives in my hometown now but we'll soon see. If he wants to do it then great, if not I fully respect that. Thanks, Sean :-)
