I will say this about the construction labour shortage. At least when I was young and thinking about construction as a career. Builders are ass holes. The gate keeping back in the day was impossible to fathom. All the old school did not like the competition from future workers. So that along with the back breaking and sometimes dangerous work. (For instance while doing roofing, they were taking down a chimney while not warning us people working below. It was raining bloody bricks! That is the moment that I realised the job was not worth it. And i bet many capable young men have thought the same. And now they are crying because no one wants to work like that. Don't get me wrong, there are some good jobs and everyone gets on. But more often than not you have different workers getting in each other's way and making life difficult. Now you need 150,000 workers! Good luck with that.
Help to buy is an absolute nightmare.. You’re locked into an agreement for a number of years, when the years are up you have a loan to pay back to the builder plus plus your mortgage payments. How can any young person afford to do this and live. 😡 Before anyone disagrees,I have first hand knowledge. 🤬
Yes we need community led house building, cooperatives that bypass the big building coperatives. The bif property builders need to be impelled by law to release some of that land for cooperatives. Just imagine hundreds of these relative small projects all over the country. Labour needs to change the law and buy some of that land under compusory purchase because people are living in Victorian conditions. This is an emergency need for affordable homes. Why should property barons control the quality of lives.
I hate that nonsense answer that these politicians give when it comes to housing. We don’t want more council housing, we want private housing that we can actually afford to buy and get an affordable mortgage on. Who the hell really wants to live in a council house? Control is the name of the game, the system is built on this no matter who's in government, The system deliberately allows the housing market to keep rising and not included in inflation the reason is the control to keep the slaves at their jobs, imagine if the homes were cheap and everyone could buy and pay for it in just a few years. that is a big problem for the government because it lose control.
