As an Italian citizen, I can say that the EU has done Italy no favors. Look at the stats pre eurozone and post eurozone and the numbers speak for itself. Ever since Italy entered the eurozone is when the economy and quality of life went into a never ending slide.
@@leonardofilippini not embarrassing anything. The numbers show those are facts. Would Italia be better without the eurozone? Maybe not, but it seems correlated to me
@@pdemp5780 Correlation ≠ Causation Every other country in the EU has benefited from the single currency and access to the single market. In the 1990s we failed in privatizing our economy and becoming competitive. That was a failure of Italian economic policies, not a failure of the eurozone. The sooner we realize this instead of blaming others for our own failures, the sooner we may start implementing policies that actually bring a change.
@@leonardofilippini I generally do agree with you. I don’t think every country has benefited from a single currency besides Italy though. I think some others in Southern Europe didn’t benefit either. But I 100% agree with you that we did not change our economic approach/policies since the early 2000s, which is why we are in this situation. However, my argument would have been (at the time) if we aren’t going to change, then let’s not let anyone to force ourselves to change either. We have not been able to stay competitive partly because we don’t have the ability to devalue our currency anymore (China and US still does this today). That was the model of our economy and we couldn’t change our policies to adapt for vast reasons.
02:03 This guy refers to an article of the Constitution (art. 29), which was written in 1947. "The Republic recognizes the rights of the family as a natural society founded on marriage". Our consitution talks about natural society, not natural family. There is a huge debate around this article, as it doesn't clearly represents our current society and it's full of contradictions (how can something be "natural" if the only thing that legitimize it is a non-natural thing as the marriage?)
It’s normal that the far right it’s increasing everywhere. The economic struggles we are facing, the high number of non-European immigrants, the promotion of values that are in contrast with the values that Europe has had, such is Islam, LGTBQ and others.
If by "far right" you mean "normal" and "having values that allow society to function," yes. The ultra liberalism going on now has to end and will end.
Italy has a foreign population od 8.7%, less than the most part of Western European country. Amongst those only 64.8% are non-EU citizens therefore 5.2% of Italian population doesn't own a EU Passport. Considering Italian aging population there's no way to maintain the current amount of inhabitants in the country without immigration. Europe is based on Enlightenment therefore Christianity and Islam need to be both perceived as alien to the fundamental values of Europe. How ade LGBTQ+ rights against European values 🤔? Meloni is a low educated lady with little understanding of country administration and, together with Salvini and the immortal Berlusconi, is making inconsistent promises exploiting the ignorance of voters. Italy is 2nd in European for low level of education and first for distorted perception of reality (see Boddy Duffy's researches)

In addition, Meloni is in favor of Europe but a federal Europe, a de Gaulle one Europe. The PD is a left wing party but in name only that try to keep itself in power avoiding elections. Try to learn a little instead of explaining what you do not understand.
The superficiality of your comment shows your double standard and your ignorance. You try to negate FACTS. The party "Brother of Italy" is a post fascist party, in fact your pathetic leader Meloni decided to add in the party flag a "tricolor flame", a symbol from the NEO-FASCIST party MSI, which derived its name and ideals from the Italian Social Republic (RSI) a "violent, socialising, and revolutionary republican" variant of fascism established as a Nazi puppet state by Benito Mussolini in 1943. The "tricolor flame' represents Mussolini's remains, where a flame is always burning on his tomb. Ritenta caro peracottaro, invece di dire agli altri di imparare a spiegare cose che TU non capisci!

@@Yutani_Crayven He a expressed a Considerate opinion, you may disagree, but it doesn't give you thr right to judge a Nation for it. I doubt that a 2 trillion dollars economy like Italy will end up like Hungary by the way
Italy is an extremely aging country, and its shooing it's youngest and brightest people away: voters are elderly, so elderly people became the basic constituency for all the parties. There's no real agenda for who creates wealth, on both leftist and and rightist sides, and this will result in a country quickly imploding on itself. It's important that the other members of the European Union realize how serious this situation is, and will eject the country out from their economic agreements.
The only sane way to solve Italy's problems is to make people have more children. Without children there is no future, no matter the economic policies you adopt. And replacement migration will only result in a further decline of the national iq and a populance that is not going to be able to generate the geniuses that made Italy great in the first place.
@@mattiasbinotto5358 let me unpack it for you: 1) you have no clue about how demographics works, and political steering of births is just ridiculous (thanks Mao for the excellent demonstration) You'll spend billions, make people angry and you'll get nothing 2) you are a racist and a masochist. Italians will need a LOT of immigrants to care about their elderly people for a cheap price. Actually, I do think that on average Italian population's IQ is ~0.2-0.4 standard deviations below the world average, based on the outcome of Pisa and % of people with a degree... And honestly, I can make a comparison with far smarter people in the same socioeconomic status. Education facilities abroad (even in far poorer countries) are better and more valued. Italians deserve a bad outcome, the default of INPS and on the state, without burdening other countries. That's a cure I would consider just. But, for any nation facing an increase on the non-active population (people over-65 >20%) the only solution is an age-weighted voting. The more people in an age bracket, the less the votes count on local and national elections, and vice versa. That would be the only way I can see to provide incentives to review political agendas throughout the political spectrum.
The reason why Italy is broken and it's impossible to create wealth here is exactly because your stupid Nazi European Union and their centralised control of our politics, economy and currency. To break away from that shit would be far better for Italy than for EU.
I wonder why the BBC doesn't play a foreboding score like this when introducing a report on a US democrat and highlight their history of supporting slavery!
The biggest contradiction is how we are so incredibly worried about her becoming PM, whilst being entirely conscious of the fact that Italian Governments last an average of a little more than a year, and in that time, no one can actually do so much damage, neither to politics nor to culture. It's this contradictory mix of extreme preoccupation and absolute cynicism that you'll hear most often on the streets of Italy. Make no mistake, those who actually support her are not the majority, they're a plurality.
You're probably right. However, the preoccupation is due to some details that can be considered. This will be the first election with the new reduced number of seats in Parliament and the second election with the new electoral law but this time the 5 Star Movement has 20 percentage points less. - In 2018 the disproportion of the single-member districts favoured the right parties in the North and the 5 Star Movement in the South, this time this party is not strong enough to counter the right parties - The Centre-Right Coalition is more solid than the left and centre cluster parties. The far-right parties represents the majority of the coalition while the more moderate Forza Italia is 20% of the coalition. There is also a high possibility that the Right Coalition will rule without risky cross-Parliament alliances. - By current polls, the Centre-Right Coalition will take 250 out of 400 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 125 out of 200 seats in the Senate. The two-thirds qualified majority numbers are respectively 266 and 133. Meloni's party is rising by the day while the Democratic Party is losing support at the same rate. - While it's true that short-life Governments is typical in Italy, do not underestimate the italian skill of f***ing things up in record time. In conclusion, the preoccupation is not far-fetched. I know that polls are highly misleading and that 35% of voters is undecided and can turn the tables (as a famous italian singer says "In the elections the undecided are decisive") but is exactly this preoccupation that can counter the far-right drift. Overall, if the Centre-Right should win with a strong majority I don't think the european membership or the support to Ukraine will be at risk and the propositions in the economic sphere are open to discussion. The main concerns revolve around the handling of the migration crisis and the LGBT rights, let's not forget that Italy still doesn't have a law against omophobia. Let's hope that as you say this will come out as usual and that these concerns turn out to be invalid. But, rest assured, you don't need 5 years of ruling to make damage.
This woman has more charisma than every US politician combined. Compare her with Kamala Harris or Hillary Clinton, it’s just completely different. Meloni is of a different cloth.
Fratelli d'Italia is more moderate than the previous Alleanza Nazionale party it derives from, a party that was in the Italian governement and proved to be moderate and perfectly acceptable and democratic. Meloni is within the European institutional framework all she wants is to counterbalence the power of the big European powers that set the agenda at the expense of the other countries that have no say.
A party, moderate or not, can't be one person, in Italy we need a lot of high value men and women to be part of the government team, we know that and that ridiculous m5s movement yet demonstrated the fact. Democratic party is stability and expertise thanks their numerous experienced politicians and people from right and left side
6:07 the only reason why Draghi was so important for the Democratic Party (the old Partito Comunista Italiano) was that it allowed them to climb back to power after losing the election BADLY because their previous ragtag army exploded from inside in 2018. They used the Cinquestelle party and the bonus they got in parliamentary members being the first party in Italy to form a coalition which was different from what the Italians had expressed in the election and used Draghi as a mask to put forward anf feign a "neutral" government. They would got rid of Draghi in an instant had they thought they has the slight chance to win in the next elections and now they cry havoc because they know they will lose, BADLY, the next round. I'm not a Meloni supporter myself but I nothing but despite for those lefties that would sell their mother to get on the command seat, and only then, think about what to do with it. You, the BBC, could at least have asked Giorgia Meloni her opinion directly, but instead gave voice, too much, to people who know nothing, of her or even try to put inside her mouth ideas they'd like to hear from her to discredit her. I see the Shitshow discredit campaign already begun from BBC. You'll never change!
They used *literally what is allowed in our parliamentary republic*. Aside from the useless history info about the PD, since the PCI was probably one of the few democratic parties with communist philosophy (I’ll leave you to study why and how that party developed, not spreading misinformation to gain likes here ;) ); the coalition you’ve mentioned included many parties (I.e.: Lega) making a proper “Unity Government” (Governo d’Unità) with only Meloni in the opposition. Blaming PD and Draghi for masking a robbery shows a lack of understanding of how the Italian government works as well as its recent history. But hey, thanks for the biased opinion, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied by the Meloni government.
I'd say Pd is more likely the old DC (Christian Democracy). In Italy, nowadays, the several left/far left minorities have inherited the old Communist Party's philosophy and they are totally irrelevant.
"[…] that would sell their mother to get on the command seat, and only then, think about what to do with it." The saddest thing about this statement is that you don't yet recognize how it applies to Meloni's party more than to any other. Politicians who sell people on oversimplications and easy solutions, telling them what to hear, getting high on demagogy, are always the worst offenders when it comes to nepotism and special interest policy. It always leads to worsening corruption and erosion of institutions. This party will take the country down the same path as Hungary and Poland, and they're open about and advertise it, too. That's destroying the country from within more efficiently than any outside threat ever could.

That is the kind of behaviour that I expect from a leader who wants to be PM.
It is not just the BBC. The American media apparatus has been attacking Giorgia Meloni. All the coverage in American media is via Opinion pieces (e.g. Politico, Washington Post, New York Times, etc.) rather than news articles. For those who are unfamiliar between the differences between opinionated publication and a news article, an opinion piece, the author(s) focuses on a topic and expresses personal and original thoughts or beliefs. Whereas, an news article, describes and critically appraises available evidence. Different types of clinical evidence are rated according to the “quality” or strength of the evidence. American media attempt to equate Giorgia Melon with Putin or Mussolini in order to influence the outcome of an election without any evidence to back their claims (which is why it is published as Op-Eds). These opinion based pieces amount to electoral interference from America media.

As an Italian citizen, I can say that the EU has done Italy no favors. Look at the stats pre eurozone and post eurozone and the numbers speak for itself. Ever since Italy entered the eurozone is when the economy and quality of life went into a never ending slide.
Please stop embarassing our country.
@@leonardofilippini not embarrassing anything. The numbers show those are facts. Would Italia be better without the eurozone? Maybe not, but it seems correlated to me
@@pdemp5780 Correlation ≠ Causation
Every other country in the EU has benefited from the single currency and access to the single market.

Meloni is a low educated lady with little understanding of country administration and, together with Salvini and the immortal Berlusconi, is making inconsistent promises exploiting the ignorance of voters. Meloni was an outspoken fascist in her youth.

Ahah here an Italian leftist radical chic ready for the end of the world
The only sane way to solve Italy's problems is to make people have more children.
Exactly...
Probably because US Democrats didn't invent fascism, but rather Italians did.
Viva Giorgia Meloni!
Make Italy Great Again. Absolutely fabulous.
- In 2018 the disproportion of the single-member districts favoured the right parties in the North and the 5 Star Movement in the South, this time this party is not strong enough to counter the right parties
- The Centre-Right Coalition is more solid than the left and centre cluster parties.
@@matteoalocci3968 I shall vote against them but i know it's more of a statement than anything useful.

"[…] that would sell their mother to get on the command seat, and only then, think about what to do with it."
The saddest thing about this statement is that you don't yet recognize how it applies to Meloni's party more than to any other. @Giorgio Fegatini You probably forget that Meloni’s party was The only one that decided to stay to the opposition against Draghi’s government. Therefore she had not The power to address her agenda. She played a very important role as her party voted many times to help Draghi’s disastrous majority in approving key acts, including the one that sent weapons to Ukraine and allowed Italy to stay on Nato’s side.
