Thank you. I have had my glass for over a year. You have inspired me to just try make a table like yours. I have watched many videos and this one is one of the best. I do not know why it took me so long to find it when I looked for exposure units. I am just glad I did.
hi joseph, just checked the company site and will order the heavy duty deep draw vacuum blanket. it is exactly what i want. Then plan to upgrade vacuum pump system. thank you again.
Does your vacuum pump create an oil mist during use? I purchased two of the same pumps from Harbor Freight, and each one would create a cloud of oil mist within a minute of use.
It's awesome to see other DIY'ers doing stuff like this. My 2nd build is almost similar, (Video on my page) but I had space for an entire internal unit. Great job man! I love how it's hinged. I guess my only concern is that you glued your neoprene down. I know a ton of shops that get holes in their neoprene. Although, mine has held up a LONG time with 0 holes. I guess at some point, you just rip it all off, sand it down and re-glue. :-)
This was really cool im building mine but am not gonna use the vacuum blanket (my room is limited and the walls are thin so i dont want to disturbs my neighbors but i will be trying to add an auto timer, an a in and out cooling fans. learning the wiring to do all this is starting to become way fun , hope all is well god bless
Hi Josiah, Thanks for sharing your exposure unit video! We have something like this for exposing screens and I am currently looking at lamp /exposure options. Would you mind telling me how the 500w halogen work light worked / distance from screen etc? Does it get really hot? and can it expose good detailed images on the screen? I imagine it has draw backs if you needed to upgrade. Thank you!
Like the 6000 watt upgrade. nice move. Perhaps i will look into more wattage myself. In the meantime, neoprene is somewhat fragile you say and is prone to ripping and you want this special rubber. This rubber sounds like something i should look into.
yes the neoprene is a good/cheap alternative and it does work for several hundred exposures, but it will rip eventually. the runner I'm going to get is basically a deep draw rubber blanket all professional units have. I will buy it from douthitt in Michigan.
Hello Joseph, nice work on your vacuum frame. I built an exposure unit myself but didn't use neoprene rubber. Now I want to upgrade my machine using neoprene. My question is what was the thickness of the neoprene? Also I liked the way you hooked up the vacuum machine, I would like to use your system if I may.
I've been exposing perfectly for about a year now. the film goes between the glass and the screen, the neoprene squished the film between the screen for maximum contact
hi joseph, by now you have probably figured out that your next light upgrade is to metal halide, 1000 watts. and you learned that it cut your exposure time down to only a few minutes rather than the longer times with the halogen bulb.
currently I own a freestanding 6,000 watt metal halide lamp. it works great. 45 second exposures with dual cure diazo, and 30 min exposures on kiwo pholopolymer
+Timothy Rowan It lets the air get fully sucked out from the inside area of the screen frame. Without it, there might be a small pocket of air trapped. Normally if you were exposing a screen, you wouldn't want the string anywhere near your emulsion.
Yes, I am able to expose 4-20x24 inch frames. Once I upgrade to a new light source. currently I am using a 500 watt halogen worklight, and I can expose 1 screen at a time with that. I do not have any plans drawn out, but if you send me an email at blackmorejjv@gmail.com I can help you to build yours.

Very nice have you made any improvements to it over the years?
Can you share the building plans for this...that is an awesome exposure unit...can you do more than one screen at a time?

Awesome build! would be cool if you could post the info on your neoprene. Price, link, thickness, Duro, ETC. Thanks ! =D
Can I use regular glass ?

Hi do you still need help? I was never notified of your comment so it was overlooked. I would love to help if you need
Yeah. What Size thickness of neoprene and if you order plain on both sides or smooth on one side?
@jojostar9999 do you know what the fitting is called that you put through the metal frame that connects to the quick release? Thanks you!
I can't believe you put all that effort then you gove God the credit.
Can you share the building plans...that is an awesome exposure unit! Are you able to expose more than more screen at a time?
Where did you get that black rubber?
This is motor? Wath is your name?
what is rope for?
Nice job!what is the lid frame constructed from?
How thick is the neoprene?
Can this be used for offset printing plates also?
What do you use to seal the metal frame to the glass

Is this still an active channel? I'm interested in purchasing the plans. Thanks!
Excellent video Brother...God Bless You...!!!
impressive and congratulations - very nice
Nice job!! What kind of light did you use?
I'm just using a 500 watt halogen worklight, nothing special. I'm still researching to upgrade to a high powered light.
Very helpful.. I will be making one of these eventually
Have you exposed anything with this design? Doesn't the film need to be on the neoprene side?
I've been exposing perfectly for about a year now. the film goes between the glass and the screen, the neoprene squished the film between the screen for maximum contact
Really well done!!!!
I was hoping to see the UV light Fixture or halogen tubes...I am interested more in the UV light exposure unit than anything else
You did an awesome job!

Where did you get the freestanding halide lamp? What model / manufacturer? I'm trying to figure out a good option. Thanks!
Yoo where’s part ?!?!?!?! God bless!
hi joseph, what thickness is your neoprene 1/16"? 1/8?
my neoprene has ripped during lots of use. it still works but I will upgrade to a deep draw rubber blanket when I can afford it. $850 bones
+Joseph Blackmore I've been using ryonet's neoprene and hasn't ripped from heavy use in over 2 years. Just has alot of ink on it.
Why the string on top of the screen? What does that do
I moved the strong to the bottom where it has stayed. it works better that way.
+Timothy Rowan It lets the air get fully sucked out from the inside area of the screen frame. Without it, there might be a small pocket of air trapped. Normally if you were exposing a screen, you wouldn't want the string anywhere near your emulsion.
you good great job with new ideas man. it helps me a lot (Y)
That's a vacuum frame, not an exposure unit
STUPID! Heater...! get a life!
