My best friend and I had our colors done in the 70's and at the time I was determined to be an Autumn and my friend was a Summer. The consultant also included a personality blurb with the color analysis and she told me that I was going to be a "Doubting Thomas." Needless to say, that part of the analysis was right, because over the years since the 70's I have probably had my colors done more than 10+ times and unfortunately, every time has been different. I am still a believer in the color concept but I think some people are harder to determine than others. Thanks for sharing your experience and your Summer colors do look good on you!

Hello from a "true spring"! Can't wait to see the SQ yarn review taking your color analysis into consideration! I heard from a Creative Color consultant on IG that an easy way to keep wearing a piece you love but that isn't in your colors (or is even one of your "worst" colors) is to add one thing closer to your face in a knockout color. So if your sweater isn't your color, adding a necklace or scarf, or in the case of your hot pink hat throwing on a swipe of your best lip or eye shadow colors or even earrings in a knockout color can help bring brightness back to your own features and not the clothes!

I'm a soft Autumn, so we're sister palettes! As you said about dyers in the warm Summer months doing lots of neon, I always LOVED how bright and fun neons were, but HATED how they looked on me. Made me look sickly! Now I know I'm better suited to muted tones, I can see how all my favourite clothes were in that soft Autumn palette anyway because they brought out my best features and they were always the items that I got the most compliments in.
Yes! I've definitely got swept up in the hype of certain colors that are really not the best for me and I'm really happy I have the knowledge around that now.
I find colour analysis very interesting. I have done several free online tests and it is always deep/dark autumn. Everybody knows autumn is warm colours. I was a little confused because there were some cool (dark and rich) colours that definitely looked good on me. So after reading a ton it turns out that some of your best colours can lean towards the neighbouring seasons depending on your exact features. In my cause I am better off with colours overlapping with dark winter (cool toned) than true autumn. And soft autumn is not good for me at all even though it is still "autumn". But there is always flexibility. I knit a very warm toned beige sweater before realizing it is not a good colour for me. I never wore because it didn't feel good. Now I wear it with a little silk scarf in a "best" colour and it works pretty well! Definitely keep your pink oslo hat. It' so fun and it doesn't look wrong at all.

I recently did one with a different company where you also submit photos and thankfully their photo requirements were a little different, because I really would have struggled to submit anything as someone who wanted to start thoughtfully incorporating more colour (and basically only had navy and black). I’m a calm autumn (sometimes referred to as soft autumn)! I like the points you raised about your why and how you think you’ll use it, because that’s so important. For me it’s a spring board to be more thoughtful about investing in SQ of yarn or creating a more coordinated wardrobe and introducing colours I normally wouldn’t have selected, but that certainly doesn’t mean you have to only wear “your colours”. It’s really an educational tool. One tip I received from my analysis for dealing with less flattering colours or tones was to layer my colours with non colours. This way they sort of create a balance (even though they compete). So if you use your Oslo hat as an example, if you wore that with your berry pink sweater or even your green cardigan that would mute some of the impact of your Oslo. Yes, it’ll still be a statement hat, but your features won’t be impacted the same way, because your whole outfit isn’t outside of your season. I also went and found paint chips in my colours as a free planning tool, so that I don’t have to keep looking at my colour card 😊 Hope these help as you explore with your colours!
I LOVE the idea of getting paint chips of your colors! I just saw someone do that on Instagram as well, and I'm going to need to make a trip to Home Depot ASAP! Haha! And it's so funny you gave that example with my pink Oslo hat, because I found myself wearing it with one of my green sweaters so often! I think intuitively I knew that those colors contrasted nicely and would look good. 💖💖
My only challenge with the paint chips was the variety and lighting in the store, so I basically took everything home haha. Now I just need to start figuring out which ones actually are my colour and if the undertone is warm or cool, because sometimes it’s hard to tell - I like when someone tells me “this pink is cool”! I hope its simpler for you ♥️

The most important lesson was that some shades-a slate blue, for example-might turn them into a star, while a closely related shade-say, a more pastel blue-might make them look like some anonymous extra on the set. It seems weird to me, though, that while i suspected I was an autumn back in the day, I’m almost sure that I’m now a winter. Maybe it’s the silver hair??
Yes! It's so interesting how just slight changes in a color can make all the difference! And I've seen a few people talking about your season changing with your hair color, so it's definitely a possibility!

In my results, the Created Colorful team mentioned that Cool Summer's gray nicely because many shades of gray are cool summer colors, but I'm definitely not expert enough to know for sure for all seasons. It would make sense though if there are some minor changes as your hair color changes.

Welcome to the Summer Crew :). I suspect that some of the non-summer colors can also be worked in to our wardrobe by not having them near our face. Maybe some of your "other season" yarn could be the bottom half of a color-block sweater, or you could knit a full top out of it but plan to wear a cowl out of a more summer-ish color with it?

I’m pretty sure I’m a winter but I’d love to get it professionally confirmed. I do have some colors in my stash that I know now aren’t for me. But I’m keeping them too and will use it for gifts or even accent/contrast colors for my knits.

I was told if I wear black or a color I don’t look the best in, I can still wear it but wear it with a scarf or shawl etc in one of your true colors. I agree with you, if I find a blouse on a $5 bargain rack -. Am I going to pass it up because it isn’t one of my colors - no but I may think about what I can wear with it.
Definitely! An additional layer on top or a slightly heavier hand with your make up and make a difference when you want to wear a color that may be outside your season.

Aah yes, so excited for this video. I myself am a spring, so clear (or bright) & warm, so the opposite of you. Which often sucks because very few yarn dyers, clothing makers etc. produce colours that look the best on me, they mostly cater to summers where I live. About the red shirt: there are reds for every season and there's a high chance that there is a red where you will be seen first, not the shirt (think burgundy, for example). Also, there will be greens where the shirt is seen first, because it is a green let's say from the spring palette. Your analysis photos remind me of my analysis - I definitely used towels, washcloths and so on to get some colours, I just did not have any of "my" colours in my wardrobe then. And I think: wear the Oslo hat! It's so fun and who always wants to follow the rules anyway... thanks for your in-depth video!
omg i was trying to type you in your last video and couldn’t decide if you were soft summer or soft autumn! i’m not an expert but i also got my colors done by created colorful and I am a soft autumn but i can borrow some colors from soft summer. so excited for you!! knowing my colors helps narrow down yarn color choices and has greatly reduced how much i spend on clothes having more limited color options, which has been great for me LOL

Yep! I’m a deep/dark winter and unfortunately a lot of colors I love on other people just don’t look right on me. Always disappointing to buy something because of how good it looks on someone else and HATE how it looks on me. Understanding my colors has helped me to avoid wasting hundreds of dollars on various clothing pieces that I know are pretty but just not on me.
Yes! This is huge! I get so swept up in popular yarn colors and then it arrives and I'm like, this is not the color for me! I'm happy to have this info now to hopefully help curb that habit haha
Just remember we have to b brutally honest while answering questions and receiving answers. I don't encourage several color tests. Each system has humans who have set up the test with their own interpretation. I was tested in my '20s and now upper '60s. My skin tone has changed. I was originally tested Winter and in my immaturity I definitely felt I "loved" that palette. In my aging years I changed my colors. I still luv Winter but my skin color cannot tolerate certain colors that I luv. Just my humble opinion. Luv ur channel. Great topic.

I haven't had a professional color analysis nor I think it will be something in my near future, but it's interesting and as you also said I tried doing it myself but I have encountered some difficulties, the greatest of all being "am I cool toned or warm toned?"🤣 I think that's always the first thing you have to ask yourself, and I think I'm cool but again, not sure! Anyway, going with this assumption I followed the video by True Summer knits on how to determine you color season and apparently I'm between a bright and a true Winter (yay, cause I love those bright colors!) As for the Hot Pink hat, yes it' the first thing you see and notice, but I bet it would be the same if I wore it too, even if neons are technically in my color palette, itìs called statement piece for a reason, isn't it?😅
Thanks for sharing! We’re in sync on this. Lately I’ve been diving deep into seasonal colours and how it will impact my yarn choices, so am interested to continue hearing about your colour journey. I’m a different season than you, and like you have intuitively gravitated to my best colours most of the time, and have other non-season colours that make me happy which I will still keep and wear (except for one knit top that I will gift out asap). Luckily we can still wear other colours like black away from our faces, and/or with a scarf or jewellery that offsets if too close to the face. And an idea: I think it would be helpful if online and in-person yarn shops would have an area with sample yarns are organized or filtered by season.
I would loveee if yarn shops had samples organized by seasons! Or even just posters with color swatches by season so people could compare. That's such a good idea!
I’ve been analyzed twice with vastly different results. One said autumn and the next said winter. I think winter is more accurate, but I may try again.
That’s so interesting because winters and autumns are opposites in terms of bright vs muted and cool vs warm! I’m definitely not an expert, but maybe you can figure it out just by knowing if you gravitate more towards cool or warm tones. Or like you said, try another professional analysis to confirm one over the other! ❤️
I agree with what Leslie said. Autumns are all warm toned, and then the variations depend on where you fall into one of three sub seasons depending on things like light vs deep, bright vs muted, etc. Winters are usually cool and then there’s similar sub seasons. Certainly not an expert either and just going off the explanations included in my own analysis. That sounds like a frustrating experience though, especially for a paid analysis. Maybe you’re more neutral so you lean both ways?

I would loveee if yarn shops had samples organized by seasons! Or even just posters with color swatches by season so people could compare. That's such a good idea!

I’ve been analyzed twice with vastly different results. One said autumn and the next said winter. I think winter is more accurate, but I may try again.
That’s so interesting because winters and autumns are opposites in terms of bright vs muted and cool vs warm! I’m definitely not an expert, but maybe you can figure it out just by knowing if you gravitate more towards cool or warm tones. Or like you said, try another professional analysis to confirm one over the other! ❤️

I agree with what Leslie said. Autumns are all warm toned, and then the variations depend on where you fall into one of three sub seasons depending on things like light vs deep, bright vs muted, etc. Winters are usually cool and then there’s similar sub seasons. Certainly not an expert either and just going off the explanations included in my own analysis. That sounds like a frustrating experience though, especially for a paid analysis. Maybe you’re more neutral so you lean both ways?
