    Sampson is wonderful. Such an amazing, beautiful fish. Your tank is also fantastic, maybe some day, I'll have the opportunity to have a unique and impressive tank, as well, but for now, I'll stick to some dwarf african frogs and a shrimp or two.

    Such a beautiful fish! It's like a band of musicians and the Fire Eel got stuck with the Tuba.

    I had a 32" female in a 5x3x3 plexiglass tank with 3 10" clown loaches for 13 yrs who was very happy. I could pet her when cleaning the tank, she would swim up against me and she ate whole live night crawlers out of my hand. One night she broke the lid and jumped out and my calico cat woke me up to see her on the floor. i washer her off in the sink and put her back with some stress coat and she was fine. she was about 4yrs old at that time. She had a big piece of pvc pipe for a hide but would come out the minute she saw me walk by the tank. One day she didnt come out...I miss that fish 😢 Hoping to get another one soon i just got a bigger tank.

    What would be the smallest tankmates for such a beast of an eel. They may eat small fish... but how small ya think?

    • @Riffwaters
      @Riffwaters  Рік тому +1

      They actually have pretty small mouths, for such a large fish. I think anything over 3 inches would be fine, in terms of not getting eaten. Needs to have some girth to it, as well. Sampson here can eat really long things, if they're skinny enough.

    Bro, I've got a 750g 11x3x3 .. I'm growing a pair of fires and a tire track out for it currently, as well as some others. Have you ever just got in there and swim with your eels? They're so personable I just wanna sit in my tank with them when they're 2 feet long and play! Lol!

    • @Riffwaters

      I'm jealous! That sounds like an awesome tank! And I don't ever get in just for fun, but I do get in occasionally for maintainance. Very personable fish.

    Hi! Thanks for this informative video! I am an eel enthusiast in the process of setting up my first 125g 6 foot tank. Is there a type of eel that you would recommend for a tank of this size? Thanks in advance for any info!

    • @Riffwaters
      @Riffwaters  2 роки тому +4

      Nice! Nothing like your first 125g. If it were me I'd stock it with a group of Peacock Eels. They're real cool and get about 12". Alternatively you could do one Tire Track Eel, but that COULD be on the larger side for a 125.

      @@Riffwaters Hi I am looking into getting a 125 gallon tank 6.5ft long by 2ft wide by 2ft deep would my floorboards be able to take the weight and how much money should I be looking at

      @@Predatorfishaddict Hi! If you could tell me about your floor and foundation I can help answer. 1st floor, 2nd, etc. Slab, crawlspace, etc. This could be a fun video topic too! But hey, the dimensions you listed are for a 180g, not a 125g.

    Mate I'm sorry to say this to you but generally fire eels stop growing around 20 inches so fire eels don't get to 3 foot just becuase yours grew that big doesn't mean they need a 7ft tank I have mine in a 6ft tank and he's around 21 inches wich is 3 inches off 2 foot and an avarge adult fire eel only around 120 to 125 gallon tank and fire eels in the wild grow up to 36 to 40 inches which is with more water than any tank will hold

    • @Riffwaters
      @Riffwaters  Рік тому +10

      You are correct that not all fish grow that large, but they have the capacity to. Meaning we as fishkeepers should give them a home big enough to fit them if they do reach those sizes. That being said, I suspect yours may just not be full grown yet (or could even be stunted). 21" is very small for even an average M. erythrotaenia.

    • @FreshWaterGenetics
      @FreshWaterGenetics 6 місяців тому +1

      I agree with Riff, these guys on average reach 4ft or more. As a tropical fish Importer, I can very much confirm this video.

      Hi! Thanks for watching. The width you have is great, but for length I like to keep them in 7' or longer. But in all honesty, you'd be doing the fish better than most people. I just lean towards giving more space.

    hi, do you know any dry food for fire eels?

    • @Riffwaters
      @Riffwaters  2 роки тому

      Hi. Unfortunately I do not. The closest I've gotten is Hikari Carnivore Sticks. Sampson would bite them, but then spit them out. Maybe with enough food training, a Fire Eel would actually eat those.
