these little motors can be tricky,, many people say they are exactly like a V8 WITH TWO CYLINDERS cut off, but that is not the case.. lots of changes over the years, they were built in 3 different plants, using different parts.. the biggest thing is finding out if the block was built in Romulous plant, Tawanda plant or Saginaw... u really have to do your research when building one of these engines.,, ALSO these engines are externally balanced even if it has a balance shaft, so u have to use the correct harmonic balancer and flywheel or it will shake bad.

what size cam did you use? I bought a donor engine for the block, because mine was bad from piston ring causing a rust groove in the block. I bought the truck and the previous owner let it set for a year with water in the cylinder...
,,, the donor engine came with a .500 lift cam. not sure of duration .... the engine had been rebuilt by a pro shop as far as I can tell.. I had read somewhere that if u use a 500 lift cam the computer may not be able to manage the fuel/timing correctly.. I read somewhere else, that the lift doesnt matter much, its the duration that you must watch is not too long,, do u know anything abt these issues? thanks also the cam and crank in the donor engine is in better shape than what was in the bad motor, so im planning to use everything that came with the donor engine,. The reason the donor engine was in the junkyard is because a freeze plug rusted out, and it blew a head gasket. I think they kept adding water and ran it as long as they could,,, I had to flush rust out of the block for abt 2 hours... the good side though is the block had been sleeved to stock specs, so I dont have to get it bored, I just installed new rings.. one more thing, did you add zinc additive to the oil to break in the new cam bearings?
