This is why I love your videos - finding things that don’t quite make sense. Feel like this has happened to me so many times when planning my long-term ETF portfolio, and this example just re-affirmed some of my thoughts. Thanks Robbie! Btw, SCHD (Schwab) & VYM are some my favs for long term.
Ironic you said that SCHD and VYM are your picks, because I feel the same. Very cheap (both .06% exp ratio), decent capital growth (SCHD is better, VYM is good for a dividend ETF), solid dividend, dividend growth, decent beta (lower volatility), and between the two you'll be exposed to well over 400 securities.
I'm close to retirement, so SPHD is my winner. I want monthly payout & the quarterly payout of VYM is a deal breaker for me. Plus, the dividend yield is higher with SPHD. I'm switching over to an income portfolio as opposed to growth & SPHD will still give me some capital appreciation. I pair it with JEPi & DIVO & Fidelity FXAIX S&P 500 index fund.
Another good analysis and comparison. You are likely correct about the reasons for SPHD volatility. Have you done any total bond fund/ETF reviews? Thanks for the great video!!!

Thanks so much, Ryan! Ya sometimes you just don't know why one results occurred over another. It keeps it interesting haha.

Nice, Steve! Ya for some, that monthly income is a big advantage!

Thanks The Journey! So far the only one I've done is compare BND ETF to a utilities ETF. I need to do more bond etf videos!
I think pairing SPHD with a S&P 500 etf will outperform VYM in long run
