Plasma Beam the LIKE BUTTON if you are as excited as I am for Metroid Prime 4. Thanks for all the amazing support guys. Metroid Prime 4 is due to be released sometime in 2025, which means that development is still ongoing especially for a Switch 2 version and the graphical features of any upgrades are likely being polished and worked on as we speak. The update in this video today shows us, factually, that Retro Studios is working with a wide range of cutting edge graphics software tech, including Ray Tracing with Nvidia RTX GPUs with their only current game in development, Metroid Prime 4. If that doesn’t get you excited (especially if you’re into tech like me) I don’t know what will. Great times ahead.
Bit of incorrect information here: VRAY, Arnold, Redshift and Renderman are what you call offline renderers and are in no way used for real time rendering in Game Engines. They can be used to bake lightmaps for a levels in order to get the most accurate baked lighting possible. These render engines are typically used for Animation and VFX productions i.e. movies and TV Shows. Also, you do not need an NVDIA GPU or heck even a GPU to run those renderers as they can also be run on CPU being offline renderers. Based on this, it's safe to draw the conclusion that Metroid Prime 4 will likely NOT have Ray-Tracing instead likely to have higher quality baked lighting.
Baked lightmaps are the bread and butter of Retro Studios, they have been using this tech since the original MP1 and is what gives all the prime titles the performance to graphics ratio we see today. I'm confident it will be a gorgeous game regardless of it having or not having Ray Tracing.
Came here to say this. It's also worth noting that those render engines are nowhere close to running in realtime. Frames take minutes or even hours to render out, instead of 16 milliseconds
@@Ray3D you are absolutely correct. Wanting experience with these render engines points to their interest in offline, baked lighting. This was a huge part of Prime Remake and we have every reason to believe this is how Prime 4 will be lit. So even if Switch 2 supports ray tracing, ray tracing still wouldnt be featured in Prime 4, except maybe for reflections. But let’s get real. Even if Switch 2 supports ray tracing, it will generally be a bad idea to actually use it. Switch 2 wont be as powerful as a ps5, which can barely handle incorporating 1 or 2 light raytracing features as it is. Nvidia hardware presents certain advantages, but even then, the chip would have to incorporate optimization features that we haven’t seen yet in other nvidia hardware, and that is incredibly unlikely

I've been predicting for a while now that Metroid Prime 4 would be a key game in showcasing the system differences. It all just lines up too well, and helps explain why the game has been pushed back so long
But it wasn’t “pushed back”. Development didn’t start until 2019. Given that modern games take an average of 6 years to make, MP4 is exactly on time. When people say that MP4 was delayed or pushed back or in development hell it just makes me think that person doesn’t know what it takes to make a game. The 2017-2019 period is irrelevant since it was announced it was given to a completely different studio. It’s highly likely that any assets from the 2017-2019 build were just scraped or even not legally able to be used because of ownership rights, who knows really. So MP4 didn’t have a single line of code or a single drawing on a story board until Jan-Feb 2019. 5.5 years ago. Which in game development timeframe is pretty short. Its release in Q1 2025 is a perfect 6 year development cycle.

Others have pointed out, there's a difference between offline, and realtime raytracing. Every 3D software comes packaged with an offline raytracing render engine, because it's been the standard for CG software since the 80's. These render engines will spend a few seconds to several minutes rendering out each frame. Game developers and lighting artists will set up their lighting in a 3D application, only for exporting into the game engine, where it is converted into realtime rasterization (not raytracing). My man love your videos and keeping us hyped for new Metroid. You’re the man. I’m really hopeful we get an enhanced Switch 2 Prime 4 version. The remastered Prime for the current Switch needs those beam effects back, so I hope they offer an update too on the Switch 2.
If Nintendo was smart, they would release a single version of the game that behaves differently depending on the console it is inserted in. This would allow developers to save extra coding and resources to be harnessed adequately on each individual platform. For example, cutting up or roadblocking graphical pipelines depending on the console it is inserted in. Think of it like Pokemon G/S/C, they were compatible on both, GB and GBC, but on GBC it shows color, and it is just so slightly faster on GBC due to the extra ram and processor speed. This is a feasible feature since it appears the Switch 2 will be actually a Switch with an upgraded and enhanced chip set, so retro compatibility is a possibility, kinda like the DS L(i)te could play GBA games, sinxe it used the same ARM architecture, albeit with different chipsets, 9 for the DS. 7 for the GBA, but it allowed for retro compatibility.
Hi, Dave. You have no idea what you're talking about in the second half here. These "industry standard renderers" are not for games or realtime applications; they're for prerendering (renderman is made by Pixar, for instance). They do not require Nvidia's hardware raytracing, and many of them don't use it period.. Nvidia's very own V-Ray was initially released in 1997 and didn't get (optional) hardware raytracing support until 2018. You're trying to correlate apples with oranges. The rest of the requirements on the hiring page (which are actually required and not "a plus") are very standard things: understanding of PBR, experience with Unreal and Unity. There's literally nothing here indicating that the game will utilize realtime raytracing or that the hardware will support it. Most likely, the renderers are used for baked lighting in environments, prerendered cutscenes, or aren't used at all and they're just there to help filter candidates.
It will not be a big seller, people need to realize not everything needs to be a MASSIVE world shaker of success. There is NOTHING wring with a niche franchise that does good enough to survive and keeps it's fans happy. The reason it's niche is because the type of people on this planet who are gamers and like the type of game that Metroid is, IS A SMALLER POOL OF PEOPLE.
The software you mentioned are for offline rendering and not real time ray tracing. They're definitely are being used for cinematics and marketing material and not part of the actual game rendering

Since a animated or live action adaptation is out of the question.
Anyone who has half a brain would know and recognise that Metroid Prime 4 is being released on Switch 2. The footage shown is just a small portion of the game (yes, it’s 3 x as big as the GameCube games) and it’s 1080p on handheld, 4K resolution “syched” which is what the switch 2 calls “docked” or hooked up to a tv monitor.

NOW is the time for Nintendo to announce Switch 2…. After today’s PS5 pro reveal, it would be the perfect time for Nintendo to show what they have been working on. PS5 pro at $700??!! While Nintendo can announce a new switch WITH all new games?!?!!! Do it Nintendo
I was chatting with 2 friends in 3rd grade (Kyle Cassell and Stephen Wilson) right before playstation was coming out and I told them playstation 2 would have raytracing. They said "what is raytracing?" I said, you trace the rays of light. It totally made sense though. This was 1994 and I totally made the whole thing up in my mind on the spot. Guess I manifested it.
@@ts7844 Exactly! I knew instantly that it was a Switch game. People acting like these visuals were mind blowing, but I was very underwhelmed. The least I expected was for it to look better than the MP remastered, but it looked the same.
I think we'll see a good amount of 3rd parties use ray tracing on the Switch 2 or whatever it'll be called. I mean even iPhones are getting ray tracing. Whatever the case it'll be interesting to see. Another game that could show off the new console's power and visuals greatly, in my opinion, is Mario Kart. Maybe that's why we haven't had a new one on Switch. Mario Kart 8 still looks amazing, and that was on the Wii U. One can only imagine what the next game will look like.
The one I try and think about it is put nintendoswitch one Nintendo switch 2 metroid prime 4 on nintendo switch 1 ✂ to Park games four Metroid Prime 4 nintendo switch 2
Now this switch 2 evidence is not coming from Nintendo themselves directly. I'm taking anything switch 2 related reveals this month and rumors and leaks and speculations like a grain of salt 🧂.
If we get 12GB of ram, we get sharp textures. 8GB would be a shame. It is possible like in Mario and Astrobot to make a world with good looking textures that use less ram through a lot of bespoke objects, but modern games like Wukong and Final Fantasy suffer from a lack of ram and poor textures in the world. I'd love a texture upgrade for the Switch 2 version of Metroid but Nintendo doesn't usually like to do that, sadly. Ram over RT imo :)
But wait: maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but if they're only now hiring people to work on ray tracing, wouldn't that mean they have a ton of extra work to do since they're only starting to add ray tracing now? Would that push it past 2025? Again I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to modern graphical technology so I might be misunderstanding something
Forget Switch '2' , Im just still plain scared this is actually running on Switch 1! Im just messing , of course I love the Switch 2 and want it asap! 😅😄👍🤞
Thank GOD they will not just do a basic port for the Metroid Prime 4 for Switch 2. Nintendo in the past is notorious for doing that. I look forward to seeing the REAL version which is the Switch 2 version.
There will only be one version. For the Switch. Through backwards compatibility it will already be playable on Switch 2 anyway. There is literally no logical reason whatsoever to make a second version of a game for a system with a zero userbase when that franchise has NEVER EVER been a system seller.
Ray tracing is a waste of resources compared to the benefit it provides, and that's on quality setting on a 4090. Ray tracing will be a valid upgrade once it is on par resource wise, with raster.
Not even the ps5 can do rtx properly, i dont think so, the switch 2 version will likely have better texture resolution and run at 1440p probably, not even 4k, thats for us emulationchads to enjoy.
I'm in the minority, but I really don't give a crap about "real time lighting" in games. As long as I can see what I'm looking at, I don't care for anything fancy. Just have a light source and I'm fine. Lighting really doesn't cross my mind when I'm playing a game. I never go WOW look at this lighting!!! I'm kinda to busy playing the game to stop and dissect everything.
False the game metroid prime 4 wil not be native for the switch 2 it is exclusive for nintendo switch regular lite and oled not switch 2 it could be backward compatible on the switch 2
Digital Foundry already determined via analysis that the trailer was running on Switch 1. That said, Nintendo might make a port to Switch 2 with "enhanced graphics" similar to previous cross generational games like Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild. But honestly I don't see much of a point. The Switch 2 is unlikely to be much more powerful than the Switch 1, and is likely to be underpowered even compared to last gen hardware. But Nintendo has done this before, so they're likely to do it again. I would just prefer them to make new, and original games for the next system at launch.
Metroid has NEVER been a system seller, and that's never going to change. It's a quality niche franchise and I'm happy with that and want it to stay that. Prime 4 ain't pushing any Switch 2's. 3D Mario or Mario Kart 9 will do that.
I always turn raytracing off in the settings on my 4070, I don't see any difference with it on or off apart from it making my card work harder for no reason. It is not really that "impressive" it is just something used to make Nvidia some more money as a "selling" point.
@@superboy9431 Metroid is not a system seller, never has been, never will be. With backwards compatibility the game will already be playable on Switch 2, making a second version means you create another hole or deepen the hole you are in and need MORE money to make a profit. Switch 2's ZERO userbase compared to the Switch's all time record high 144 million userbase is already going to give it it's best chance. Also Nintendo does NOT like to do cross gen games. They have only ever done it twice. And those had very specific conditions. Twilight Princess got cross gen for three reasons, the Gamecube FAILED and so they gave their big game a second chance, Zelda is Nintendo's biggest system seller outside of Mario, the Wii had motion controls and since most of the world is right handed, Nintendo had to mirror the Wii version's entire game world, and swap the master sword into Link's right hand cause again, most people are right handed. THAT is why Twilight Princess got cross gen. All those factors came together. Then with BOTW, so similar reasons as Twilight Princess, Wii U FAILED, so they wanted to give their BIG SYSTEM SELLER game a second chance on Switch, the other reason was Switch was NOT backwards compatible, cause Switch used cartridges not discs. So quite literally they had to make a separate version for the new system. But with Prime 4, Switch 2 is using the same or similar cartridges, it has backwards compatibility, the Switch was NOT a FAILURE, in fact it was Nintendo's biggest success lol. The controller will be very similar on the new switch, and Metroid is not a system seller, so there is NONE of the conditions from the past two cross gen games.
No no, this doesn't prove or even point towards a Switch 2 version, if anything the ray tracing leans more towards simply enhancing Switch 1 games since Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. No need for a separate version on Switch 2. Switch 2 could just improve the games from Switch.

500$ minimum, Switch 1 will have at least 5 more years of support.
Idc which Switch it releases for I'm buying it as soon as I can
I was chatting with 2 friends in 3rd grade (Kyle Cassell and Stephen Wilson) right before playstation was coming out and I told them playstation 2 would have raytracing. They said "what is raytracing?" I said, you trace the rays of light. It totally made sense though. This was 1994 and I totally made the whole thing up in my mind on the spot. Guess I manifested it.
Hope these release at the same time for both consoles. Would hate to have to wait to be able to get my hands on this game.
Nintendo has pretty much always done that in the past, I don't see them changing that motto with Switch 2.
Dave, talk about the leak specssssss
I bet sylux is actually Ian makvonich from other m who was enraged when his only friend quit the federation and for his brother leaving him to die
No one was questioning if it was running on switch as it looks exactly the same as Metroid prime remastered
@@ts7844 Exactly! I knew instantly that it was a Switch game. People acting like these visuals were mind blowing, but I was very underwhelmed. The least I expected was for it to look better than the MP remastered, but it looked the same.
it really doesnt. after watching the trailer over and over I went back and played through mpr and it looks fairly different
Best metroid news youtuber by far
I think we'll see a good amount of 3rd parties use ray tracing on the Switch 2 or whatever it'll be called. I mean even iPhones are getting ray tracing.
Whatever the case it'll be interesting to see. Another game that could show off the new console's power and visuals greatly, in my opinion, is Mario Kart. Maybe that's why we haven't had a new one on Switch.
Mario Kart 8 still looks amazing, and that was on the Wii U. One can only imagine what the next game will look like.
My guess is that Metroid Prime 4 is going to really blast some boost balls with its next trailer
One of the best videos you ever did thank you DAVE
I really i really want Ridley to return but this time his boss is super hard
If we get 12GB of ram, we get sharp textures. 8GB would be a shame. It is possible like in Mario and Astrobot to make a world with good looking textures that use less ram through a lot of bespoke objects, but modern games like Wukong and Final Fantasy suffer from a lack of ram and poor textures in the world. I'd love a texture upgrade for the Switch 2 version of Metroid but Nintendo doesn't usually like to do that, sadly. Ram over RT imo :)
Random but your voice is very soothing.
I might buy this
But wait: maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but if they're only now hiring people to work on ray tracing, wouldn't that mean they have a ton of extra work to do since they're only starting to add ray tracing now?
@@ItApproaches Disagree...
@@MrDemDon1 You agreeing is not a requirement for truth to be what it is.
@@ItApproaches Interesting response. I stand by what I post. Time will tell.
I also want real Metroids to return
The only thing that holds back the entire Switch in my opinion is the crappy texture quality 😅.
The next system will be backwards compatible. Prime 4 will not be a dual release since that's pointless
Ray tracing is a waste of resources compared to the benefit it provides, and that's on quality setting on a 4090. Ray tracing will be a valid upgrade once it is on par resource wise, with raster.
Ps5 pro - 😴
Switch 2 - 🔥🔥🔥
Dave off topic question if you can find it should we know the "Switch 2" code name by now?"
Not even the ps5 can do rtx properly, i dont think so, the switch 2 version will likely have better texture resolution and run at 1440p probably, not even 4k, thats for us emulationchads to enjoy.
Wow u figure things out. I’m really excited to see what switch 2 can do
Metroid… Prime… 4…
I was hoping this would be launched on a new console. Now it’s just.. meh..
All u need lord god enki
I'm in the minority, but I really don't give a crap about "real time lighting" in games. As long as I can see what I'm looking at, I don't care for anything fancy. Just have a light source and I'm fine. Lighting really doesn't cross my mind when I'm playing a game. I never go WOW look at this lighting!!! I'm kinda to busy playing the game to stop and dissect everything.
False the game metroid prime 4 wil not be native for the switch 2 it is exclusive for nintendo switch regular lite and oled not switch 2 it could be backward compatible on the switch 2
You mean forward compatible?
anyone know whats this bayonetta looking game at 3:09 this looks fire!
Stellar Blade
@@berryzfields7642 thank you!
I love your stuff, but god DAMN you stretch the ten mins
If it's just Ray Tracing.... I don't care, that's my least important thing in a game
Second 🥳🎉
Literally ZERO logical reason to make a Switch 2 version of Prime 4.
@@ItApproaches why
