    Hit the LIKE BUTTON if you enjoyed this. FYI, I’m aware of the Famiboard info showing shipment data that lists the T239 for testing purposes that went all the way back to late 2023 but it’s missing key data (CPU/GPU clock speeds) of how the console will perform and it’s not directly confirmed that it was actually for Switch 2, but it’s assumed it is due to the place of testing being the same location/area that tested Switch OG and Switch OLED. Keep in mind that testing a chip doesn't have much relation to a final form factor of a chip. In a testing environment, they don’t have to worry about temps or power consumption etc, which is why they test these chips extensively first.
    I said in the video today the Switch 2 may in fact be based on the T239 chip, however, the fabrication process (Samsung manufactured as we covered) might not have been decided until this year due to various factors with Nintendo’s desire for a lower powered mobile device (portable mode) that the original design size of the T239 from 2021 in a 2025 Switch 2 may not be up to par with. Samsung is looking for a design win in 2024 and Nintendo is in fact their partner, and Samsung just announced their SOC win a few days before Nintendo confirmed Switch.
    Samsung **Might** have offered Nintendo a deal to launch Switch 2 on their newest fabrication process next year in 2025. The tech (Nvidia T239 based) would still be older with Ampere, but I want to be clear, this is still VERY good if that is the case. That’s what makes all the tech speculation exciting though right? We’ll see what Nintendo reveals in the coming months, but I’m excited!
    It’s been a very busy last few months in my personal life after moving across the country, but thankfully it was very slow on the gaming news side of things until Nintendo confirmed Switch 2 a few days ago. Thank you for the support guys.

      It should also be added that NVIDIA's automotive arm for Asia Pacific is based in Japan. Hosiden, the link in this case, also does a lot of automotive assembly in their facilities in Vietnam. While it's interesting, it should be noted that this testing could have easily been for an automotive project and most Drive Orin and Jetson Orin based products launched in 2022 with the notable exception being Orin Nano which launched in late 2023. This is by no means a smoking gun.

      I wouldn't be so bold affirming that this is the perfect concept...
      80% are playing portable Switch at home.
      So I would be happier if Nintendo brought back the Wii U concept. Which was a better home system, by far. Moreover Un 2012.
      And did the job really well for the TV-off sessions as long as the console was close to the Gamepad.
      Nintendo with the Switch dropped the ball being a solid home-system player.
      Switch is only a portable system that you can hook to the TV.
      1/3 party did deliver ultra-low portages.
      Now think that you would need for than a beefier hardware if you want to stand for years to come...
      Yes it'd probably do the trick the first 2 years...
      But remember, we could be on this Switch 2 boat for at least 6 to 7 years... Even 8.
      So maybe for a portable hardware, Switch 2, if indeed this is the concept Nintendo's thinking about would be relevant.
      But sad to know that once again, we'd get an half-cook home system.
      That was for decade their flagship, their vitrine.
      Sad if Nintendo can no longer compete in the home-system division. Be a major actor in the Big League.

    Appearently shipping info from march revalidates the t239 but can’t confirm. My speculation as an Engineer working in Hardware development is its too late to change chips and whatever switch 2 will have has been out for years probably unless Nintendo went fullstop out of their way to collaborate with samsung throughout the process but thats probably unlikely, great discussion though.

    Been contemplating how air intake will be implemented ever since I heard they may not have ventilation while in hand held and a larger inexpensive fan imbedded in dock. A thought occurred to me that if possible?, would be cool. No pun intended. If the magnetically attached controllers on either side is to be believed?, it would allow dual air intakes along both sides of console to be completely covered by the controllers while in handheld mode. Then they could be either removed while docked, or a secondary position produced by shifting the controller position electromagnetically by shifting the electric charge to allow charging still and having a reveal toward bottom with slight shift upward for easier grasping of controllers that is less cumbersome than current models. This would create two channels of air being drawn through system and out backwards directly in front of imbedded fan in dock. Nintendo is capable of engineering crazy ideas. I just don’t know if this is technically feasible?

  • @Oryon7
    @Oryon7 4 місяці тому

    I'd NEVER write off something like this as being "too lofty" a design goal for Nintendo.
    Whether Nintendo chooses such a manufacturing process will depend on how they want to position the Switch 2.
    If they position it as a device that they want to have WAY BETTER staying power than the original Switch, then they may well go down this route.
    Nintendo definitely would have taken note of how badly Switch was struggling to keep up once new console hardware launched. The steps they've already taken seem to indicate that they plan to remedy that situation. They don't NEED to push so hard past that point, but if they feel worried that they'll fall into a similar situation, they very well might push to make it as efficient and powerful as possible, even if it means paying a bit extra for a smaller process than 8nm.
    HOWEVER, keep mind that Nintendo does not want to be in a position where a brand new process turns out to be troublesome and give poor yields. The safe bet, for a smaller node, would be to choose something that is mature and well tested. 4,5, or 6nm, in that case.
    Going by their current CPU specs, they seem comfortable trying to keep up with current console specs, so they may be able to hit their target at 7nm. Maybe 8nm, but I imagine that's crazy hard to do.

    • @Loanshark753
      @Loanshark753 3 місяці тому

      PS5S uses 6nm so that seems like a good node, since it launches later than the PS5S maybe 5nm is competitive.

    • @Oryon7
      @Oryon7 3 місяці тому

      @@Loanshark753 As long as it's cost doesn't outweigh the benefits, they may. Like the fact that several major manufacturers are making products on those nodes. Nintendo wouldn't want to be in a position where the output of hardware is lagging way behind demand due to not having enough chips, as a result of the high demand.
      They'd also have to pay a lot to "skip the line" EVEN IF the market price on those nodes are a lot more affordable in the coming months.
      Lots of variables here, but I trust Nintendo to become VERY aggressive in protecting the one major thing that keeps them operational, especially since transitioning to a 1-device platform model. It's gonna be a "different" Nintendo going forward.

  • @lyconxero457
    @lyconxero457 4 місяці тому +3

    The chances that Switch 2 is built on a 3nm node is likely less than 1%. The T239 has been shown in leaks to be mostly based on Ampere technology so it makes sense that the chip would be built on Samsung's 8nm node even though it's very old and not that great simply because it's cheap and there's nothing else fighting for that capacity. Could they have maybe moved it to a slightly better node than this? Possibly but even then it's not going to be some cutting edge node because that would be EXPENSIVE AS HELL and we're talking about a device that Nintendo likely wants to sell for no more than $400 WHILE ALSO MAKING A PROFIT ON EACH HARDWARE SALE. That last point is key as other console manufacturers will often sell their consoles at a loss for the first year or so in order to get the most modern thing they can for the time but Nintendo hasn't followed this trend since they stopped chasing power back in the GameCube era moving into the Wii.

      @hector4470 Not expecting oled. Nintendo not stupid. The amount of people who already had a switch and upgraded to olrd would have lined Nintendos pockets. Not to mention those who never owned a switch then nabbed a cheap second hand unit to then purchase a bunch of games.

      @josephallen2672 4 місяці тому +3

      Dude the current Switch outputs in 720 handheld. What makes you think that Nintendo would go backwards?? Even so, it’s still about pixel density not straight number value. A 720 on a 8” screen looks a whole hell of a lot different than 720 on a 60” screen. I’d be fine with a lack of DLSS in handheld for this reason. The pixel density would be just fine.

    • @unrealamas
      @unrealamas 4 місяці тому

      @@josephallen2672 to add to what you just expertly laid out, DLSS will be used in portable mode, just as the steam deck uses FSR at an OS level. DLSS is hardware accelerated and will be implemented in both docked (for frame upscaling) and handheld (for better performance) modes.
