  • Hi and Welcome Back to The Kneady Homesteader Channel. Today, I am with my girlfriend Chris.....who just bought a used All American Pressure Canner off of Facebook Marketplace for $200! Less than half of what it costs brand new. So.....how do you test run a used canner? Well, as I show Chris, I thought maybe you would like to see the process too, just in case you come across a deal like she did! If you have any questions about this process or the All American Pressure Canner, leave them down below in the comment section for me and I will try my best to answer them.

    Heather, I am sure I'm not alone in saying... You are the reason I own a AA canner, a BALL water bath, and a dehydrator. YOU are the reason I make homemade bread. You taught me Noreen's hamburger buns (which by the way turned out perfect the 1st attempt) and your recipe for sloppy joes, and so many others. I just used the last jar of my Apple pie filling you taught me how to make, that was my first canning adventure. So I say SIGN HER UP All AMERICAN! By the way, I'm old enough to be your mom... what a teacher you are!! GOD BLESS you and your sweet family!! Talk about humble and kind with a topping of true blue...hugs!!

      I trust you, Heather with everything preserving. I just got an All American 925 for $50 and with a glass top stove learning to use a propane burner outside is a little scary but your video is helping calm me especially with the jiggler. So nervous but excited all at the same time. When I get use to the set up, I should be ok.😊

    A number of months back, the Lord laid it on my heart to check market place for an All American Canner. I had been looking for one, with no success! So I went to market place, found a 915 All American (NEW) for $150.00. My husband picked it up for me, I was so excited! I’m so glad you shared this, some of it I did know, but some I didn’t know! Since then I’ve purchased a 925 All American! I love them both! Many blessings!

I didn't find your video on a glass top stove, but this lead me through the sweet spot finding for the canner....and the fact that each canner can have a different sweet spot. Thank you soooooo much. I have a presto canner and can regularly. I started SEVERAL YEARS AGO, thanks to you❤. Anyway my question is about the vaseline. Does it not get into the food being canned through vapors? Its important that I know this, understandably. Love you and glad your on your way back beautiful lady🤗🩷

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader
      @TheKneadyHomesteader  Рік тому +2

      No and vaseline is something I do believe AA suggests using. Your jars have lids and bands and anything coming out will be air. No Vaseline is inside the canner. It is strictly where the canner seals and the bolts on the outside. No vaseline on the inside at all. Hope that helps. 😁

    I have two smaller pressure cookers that are a different brand. I used them for cooking. I am considering canning like my mom did and if I see a used American I will buy it. I am sure she would have loved an American canner but we did not have a lot of money and she canned with a basic blue tin canner on the stove and her canned pickles and beets were always perfect. I am curious about what you think of the fermented canning trend? I made some sauerkraut and carrot spears this way, and I loved them. I used to get a lot of acid reflux and when I ate either before bed the acid reflux was gone. I have to make more soon.

    Hey, this video is really helpful!! I purchased an all american- im 99 percent sure thats what it is- at second hand store for $50. Little nervous to try it out. The sticker is pretty much worn off but i can see where it was and from what i see its a 915- quite a bit older than this one in your video. So is it safest to purchase a weight to ensure its getting upto proper pressure ? Versus using the old gauge ? And have you ever used one on a glass cooktop ? I use a water bath canner on there without issue and its heavy when full.

I found that at a stove temp of 6 on glass top...that once the gauge started climbing and got to 15 it continued. I panicked and turned stove down low low. But temp wasn't coming down on gauge. I ended up turning stove off completely as i was afraid what might happen if it climbed into warning or danger zome. It did eventually come down. But any tips for preventing it from climbing so fast and high ? Should I turn stove lower from the beginning ?

    I just bought the smaller All American canner 910. I bought the small one as there is just me and my husband. i wondered about the 915 but thought it would be too big on my burners. How much overhang can be on a burner when you use your pressure canner? My stove has cast iron burners so I wonder if that’s a game changer compared to gas that most people seem to use.

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader
      @TheKneadyHomesteader  Рік тому

      As far as width goes, the 910 is smaller but once you get to 915 and up they just get taller except for the 925. I believe that one is a bit wider. The 921 and 925 hold the exact same amount of jars. They may have exact measurements on their website for you but the over hang isn’t bad at all. Not on my stovetop. I am so happy you got an AA! For as far as I can remember not one of your jars that you pulled out of your canner has had head space issues. My goodness…I knew there was a science to all of this. I've seen so many well known youtubers who can and the food is not totally submerged in the liquid. It's very unappealing and for my family my teen girls are very picky eaters. Are you open to having a LIVE canning session in the future for your VIP’s. This is the part that has held me back because I would eat the food because I know what's in it but will my girls eat it. Especially if they see it on the shelf and it looks unappealing. I have my doubts. I’m motivated now more than ever because this was the piece to the puzzle that had me just stumped. I’m going to watch this video and skip to the sweet spot time stamp. I’m just determined to perfect this skill. Thank you so much for sharing this video and ai look forward to the next one.🙏😊💕🥰
