I could be mistaken, but I believe Fins have genetics from the North Asian tribal groups like Inuits that migrated to America across the land bridge in Alaska.
Its about somekinde of spirit who lives in the northen lights, watching you when your in the forest. If you wistle to the Northen lights he curses you, and the only one that can set you free is he's wolf who are hard to track. Btw sry about the nosound in the end, i guess i did something when i make'd the "movie"
@aivopark Hey dude if your talkin bout native beliefs then it differs by each and every tribe. Fun fact: There originally (just an estimate) about 500 native langauges all slightly similar. But only now they are being translated and maybe one tenth remain.
Sorry to say this like the others before but yes, it's not viking metal. It's folk metal, the blending of folk music with heavy metal. Viing metal is a bit different to Korpiklaani's sound, which is brilliant. Finland has produced so many brilliant metal bands! Rock on Korpiklaani. And damn, I hope they tour to Australia sometime.
Spirit of the forest is Tapio. Ukko is the thunder god. Or this can also refer to the general "spirit" of the forest without referring to a personified god. Saame people are our close relatives with mostly similar gods with different name, and they are more traditionally animistic and shamanistic ones. I would guess it refers to their more original mythos. Southern Finnish mythos is more heavily influenced by a polytheistic view.
@megamanangel,yeah im finn, what i meant about red or white was during war time, reds where commie leaning n whites were not.but very early tribes consisted of 2 different ones,to the western regions were moose tribe n eastern regions bear tribe.many started tribes in glades(wood clearings, hence the surname ahonen)all the old surnames were tribes at one time or another, some nomadic hunter tribes some farmer some fishermen etc.
Might I ask how a polytheistic view is different than an animistic one? I would think they are about that same-other than perhaps that polytheism may place more importance on deities-though historical evidence suggest that in ancient times people worked more with the spirits than the gods,or else equally, especially when compared to many of today's reconstructed organic religions.
Also-with all the mention of wolves, it could refer to Rota, as wolves on Sampi drums are called "Rota's dogs". Again, not entirely sure, as I'm weak in my Finnish lore.
This chant of "trance" in the beginning of the song is a shamanic song, isn't it? From the sámi people I guess. Does someone know any group that sings ONLY this natural shamanic chant WITHOUT rock mixed?
the only acceptable debate about these bands can be about in which order they should be listened.. luckily we have the shuffle function to solve this dilemma.
[i wrote italian because i read "polistirolo" that is an italian word]
@Met666 I wouldn't, because Norway is mostly black metal, when I heard black metal song I feel sick. Germany have: Sodom, Avantasia, Rammstein, Tankard etc.
Yeah, "Viking Metal" is a useless term anyways. I don't think that you can use subject matter to define a genre, anyways. In that case, Nile would be "Egyptian Metal," Cannibal Corpse would be "Murder Metal," on and on. Most "Viking Metal" is just Black Metal, or Death Metal, that likes to put runes on their album artwork.
No dude, I can obviously distinguish a latin language from a germanic one. And yes, I was being ignorant, but now I know that different cultures around the world used chanting for ceremonial purposes.
Er, by all means. But did you not just answer your question yourself? I'll repeat: Finnish iron age "religion" was more heavil influenced by the Germanic way of having personified gods as a pantheon. By difference of polytheism and animism/shamanism I mean just that. Saame retained longer the original.

FINNTROLL IS FINNISH BAND!!! check your facts before saying shit like that. They sing in swedish cause they say it sounds more trollish than singin in finnish or english.
@Mississippibluesboy Did your folks ever teach you that if you don't have something nice to say, just don't say it? If you don't like this music that's fine but don't ruin it for other people with crass comments.
Folk Metal is the most amazing thing ever.
i just recently discovered this band, and OMG they are in my top 5 all-time fav bands already, amazing!!!
Real similar to Native American singing, but were all from the north at one time or another. Awesome
I could be mistaken, but I believe Fins have genetics from the North Asian tribal groups like Inuits that migrated to America across the land bridge in Alaska.
I noticed it too
I believe it's relic from ancient mammoth hunter culture, much older than anyone else culture in this world.
Yeah, the people who would become Native Americans crossed over from Russia to Alaska via the Bering land bridge during the last Ice Age.
Shaman Drums are all similar too, all around the world, that can't be a coincidence!
Cruachan, primordial-toured with Korpiklaani really good show.!
this song is the best I've ever heard..you don't just listen it, you can feel it..korpiklaani are one of my favorite bands..
:)
Dam this jams so well that I'll play it again
I love that guitar squeel that Korpiklaani has :D

some one just called me a forest spirit... i feel special
@aivopark Hey dude if your talkin bout native beliefs then it differs by each and every tribe. Fun fact: There originally (just an estimate) about 500 native langauges all slightly similar. But only now they are being translated and maybe one tenth remain.
BEST BAND OF THE WORLD
So beautiful.
@mariouncles
yes. and i wish they also would do it in more of their new songs... this one is just great!!
The forest calls to me!!, great song. Hail Korpiklaani!
indeed brother/sister
@yarborg1 I have to ask you. Are you Finnish? Just checking hehe.
You made me laugh out loud! Really good one!
I adore that song!
No, helevetti, we ARE a tribe
So insanely awesome !
after what i've heard ... korpklaani is the best viking metal band for me :D
omfg, this sounds so awsome!

Do be sure to listen to Cruachan, they have been around a loooong time and tend to be another 100% Syth free Pagan/Folk band like Korpiklaani
Enjoy!

PERKELE!
PERKELE
i love that bass line at 0:21!!!!
Folk Metal is Great! Oh, all kinds of metal music are great
it was funny to me when i read your comment ,since "Fing" means the english "fart" in hungarian xDDD
The Spirit of the Forest-possibly Ukko. Not entirely sure though.

What's wrong with rock dude?
Filipe Rossi Rocha Soffiati I think Phoenix. It's a good Romanian folk group. You should try it.
@Strielok1988 you forgot Kreator, Destruction, GammaRay, BlindGuardian, Helloween, DieApokalyptischenReiter, Rage, Caliban, Ensiferum, MekongDelta, HeavenShallBurn, Nagelfar, Masterplan, GraveDigger, Protector, Accept.... and many more
@Swampdragon102 Amon Amarth is not viking metal, they are (the greatest) melodic death metal band with lyrics about vikings and the norse mythology.
@mississippibluesboy HuH, Most of us don't play WoW. Folk Metal is about ancestry and the myths of people homelands. Not RPG's and elf lovers.
the only acceptable debate about these bands can be about in which order they should be listened..
luckily we have the shuffle function to solve this dilemma.
i really love the violin in the begining of this song !! it makes me fell ....idk wild? xD w/e yts a very kick ass song
The chanting in the beginning sounds very native american.I thought that Korpiklaani was from Finland. But anyways, this is a badass band and song.
@Met666 I wouldn't, because Norway is mostly black metal, when I heard black metal song I feel sick.
Germany have: Sodom, Avantasia, Rammstein, Tankard etc.
Ear-fucking-Gasm. I love this song! Totally one of my favorites!!!
The album cover is wrong.
The album cover you put in is from the album named Spirit of the Forest but the song is on the album Voice of Wilderness.
It´s Folk metal for Folklore meaning ethical derived.
The best european music is concentrated in three countires: Sweden, Finland and Germany.
Yes... I think.
Hail Ukko!
Same genre, different approaches too it. So it's hard but easy to compare :(.
ahaha brilliant!
Vokda are verry good and this music are verry good
@mississippibluesboy
It's ok, you're from Mississippi so it's understandable that you don't understand some things.
Whose handwriting is the disk covers
this makes me want to go and live in the woods with a load of vikings... or possibly become a pirate...
No dude, I can obviously distinguish a latin language from a germanic one. And yes, I was being ignorant, but now I know that different cultures around the world used chanting for ceremonial purposes.
must respect the spirits of the forest when you are moving on their land they can curse you and you can't not find any way out of the forest.
Nice song!! Like at the spirit american native.
Ends at 5:25 but the vid runs to 8:49? Cool song though.
GUYS! If you want to arque with these things like Tribes and such you should ask a Finnish person first. Im 100% Finnish.
@GreyKarma4 I'm agree with you !
@aivopark and Finnish God of music is Jonne Jarvela
@tarrotrdr1971 No the mace did not heal up, I'm suing you for endangering my sight permanently.
yeah i know, thats the one thing i love about this song:D
Er, by all means. But did you not just answer your question yourself? I'll repeat: Finnish iron age "religion" was more heavil influenced by the Germanic way of having personified gods as a pantheon. By difference of polytheism and animism/shamanism I mean just that. Saame retained longer the original.
Bueno! 👌
dude, this is both viking- and folk-metal...
the beginning reminds me a little bit of yoik
whats this song about?
@NokturnalM1488 oh...imi pare rau ca am incurcat "k" cu "g" ... de asta o sa murim in 2012...
desi tare mi-ar placea sa vad cum traduci primul tau coment...
the beginning reminds me of native american ritual.
@ThoningMasteren I said before that I hate black metal, so I didn't mention it.
2 different genres, sir.
no problem :D
The finnish God of the forrest isTAPIO and the God for the sea and lake is AHTI. UKKO is the God in the sky.
Frey -_- is this your next trap for Stark's family ?
Thats folk metal. Viking metal would be bands like Amon Amarth or Rebellion ^^
Implying it's rock
FINNISH FOLK IS BEST FINNTROLL AND KORPIKLAANI !
FINNTROLL IS FINNISH BAND!!! check your facts before saying shit like that. They sing in swedish cause they say it sounds more trollish than singin in finnish or english.
ensiferum is pretty badass, but i think i may like heidvolk more,
@Met666 The only norsk band I like is Sirenia.
You don't say???
@Mississippibluesboy
Did your folks ever teach you that if you don't have something nice to say, just don't say it? If you don't like this music that's fine but don't ruin it for other people with crass comments.
Ok, stop comparing folk metal band. I Love korpiklaani, ensiferum, elvuvetie and finntroll. Now shut up and enjoy folk metal.
You can see the northern lights from where I am the past few days.
is that a brony i spy :3
chanting isnt just associated with native amaericans but..you may know by now so yeahhh..
hyvä biisi Korpiklaani
