We are together on this, I am a puddle right now. I love this character, this game and this actor so so much, I rarely felt so seen and that is priceless
that changed the tone from happy to sad 😬 I never like to be reminded of things like that, but I have a different video game with a character who inspires me to carry on and hope for a better future so I understand why he felt the need to mention that. Because while it is just a video game, and one with fantastical creatures in it, there are very human themes within it (or at least within Astarion's story, I haven't played it), and I'm glad others can feel like there's a fictional character out there who they can relate to, and who understands, and who can hopefully inspire them somehow.
That part had me crying. Some of Astarion's trauma was very similar to mine and really hit home. The emotion in his voice, his body language, all of it was spot on and perfect. His story in a way has helped me tackle some deep-rooted trauma that I thought I wasn't going to be able to touch or better yet even face. Astarion gave me the courage to finally put my foot forward and take control of my life again, breaking the chains of my own abuse. Astarion and Neil are always going to hold such a special place in my heart. Neil did such a phenomenal job with Astarion and he deserves all of the love and support in the world. The fantastic part is that with Astarion it's not only his voice that conveys his emotion, Neil literally embodied the character with the mocap. It's so perfect. His performance of the character truly goes beyond just the voice, though the voice alone is incredibly done in it's own accord.
@@Not_Ciel For sure! That's why I often correct people when they say "voice actor", because it's not just voice acting, it's performance capture. It's not even just voice and mo-cap either, because mo-cap doesn't capture facial expressions, just the body movements. Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan in RDR2) is also very touchy on the subject, and rightfully so because calling it only voice acting does a disservice to how much work they put into it!

It doesn’t even have to be similar to the trauma another suffered for them to feel seen; to feel they aren’t alone in the world with their experiences. Trauma can be so isolating and cruel - thank you as an actor and the entire BG3 cast and writers and crew - for making those of us who often feel invisible and unlovable feel seen and maybe able to heal. ❤ congrats on this honor. Your voice for Astarion is amazing. The emotional parts felt so gut wrenching when he's angry or upset. The fact you can draw out so many sides for a fictional character is amazing. You deserve it!
It is truly a remarkable achievement to create such a theatrical and over-the-top character and still perform those raw, gutwrenching moments as that same character, without either of those feeling fake or disjointed or forced. But that's also the thing: Astarion uses his theatricality to hide, to keep people at a distance he has control over, much like Chandler in Friends used his humor as a shield. It's very noticeable when Halsin propositions you and you go talk to Astarion about it, he does this loud, boisterous theatrical thing again, which signals to me that even though he _said_ he was fine with it, he wasn't actually fine with it. At least not as much as he made it seem.

Dude, I'm so stoked for you, Neil. Congrats on the win! There were some really big names in that category, too. Laura Bailey? Idris freaking Elba? You totally deserved the win. Just hearing you talk about it shows how passionate you were about the role and what the character meant to you. Thank you for helping give life to such a complex and intriguing character, and thank you for your part in helping create the amazing work of art that is BG3! This game came out during a time in my life where I really needed it. I'd been stuck in a pretty deep depressive rut for a while, and usually when I get like that, the only thing able to pull me out is some kind of inspirational work or character. Astarion was that character for me after such a long, apathetic drought of just not really caring about anything anymore. BG3 as a whole has just filled my life with so much fun and joy. So thank you for that and for being an all-around awesome dude. Here's to hoping (knowing!) there will be plenty more awards and accolades down the road!
Neil, I can't express how touching this moment was. All our community watching it in discord was crying with you and for you quite literally. Larian did an amazing job and deserved every reward, but you certainly deserved your own. Astarion is the most deep amd complex character I've ever seen, and he never would be like this without your great perfomance and your emotional intellect! Words you said, how you treasure this exprerience, understand this character and love the community ment the world! I'm still shaking with emotions. It's all true, you are helping us to deal with our own traumas, inspire us and make the world a better place, both as Astarion and you, lovely man Neil Newbon. You are an incredible person, and we all believed and knew you would win. With all your great history in perfomance, exceptional personality and huge heart. Just thank you for who you are! We are proud of you and hope you are proud and happy too and have the most wonderful celebrating of this!
A wonderful speech, from a wonderful and clearly moved man. You are evidently deeply loved by those who know you, and definitely deeply appreciated by those of us who don't know you. Thank you for everything you (and Stephen) have given to us with this character and this portrayal. ❤
I was literally ugly crying… i’m SO HAPPY you won this and that the whole Award show turned into #LarianAwards i love this and i’m so proud. you REALLY deserved this and i’m so happy that i got to vote! See you in your twitch streams and the vagabonds discord. Take care and celebrate all this tonight!!!❤
It's the only time I've ever bothered to go out of my way and vote for something like this, I voted for Neil because his acting for Astarion was so passionate that it really. Truly. Brought the game to life. So happy for him❤
Never would I have thought that someone existed who's so incredibly kind that they use the little time they have for a speech like this to draw attention to trauma survivors and the meaning of stories like these for them. Neil, you are truly a gift to the world. The awareness, kindness, empathy and love you spread are rare, beautiful, and worth so incredibly much. I hope that you know how loved you are, and that only good things will come your way. I can't thank Larian studios enough tfor hiring you and making the world aware of your talent and your wonderful self. Thank you, Neil. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Súuuuuuuuuuper merecido. The fact that the award is coming from the fans voting speaks volumes about how many lives this game and specially Neil's performance touched. Many many congratulations 💙
Thank YOU for your fantastic portrayal of Astarion, you're such a genuinly good soul Neil & deserve all the success in the world. Big fan of your work x
Neil is such an awesome person tbh i cannot imagine Astarion being such a fascinating interessting character if someone else would have been "our Astarion". It feels Neil put his life and pure energy into Astarion 🤔👍🥳 well deserved in deed!!! 👏👏👏
A HUGE congratulations! Your performance in BG3 is absolutely amazing and truly brought Astarion to life. As a survivor of assault and trauma, I thank you so so much for helping bring a character to life that can help me learn to heal and become more than what has happened to me. Your speech had me crying! Thank you for being you and sharing your love of BG3 and your work with all of us.
VERY much deserved!!! I’m a trauma survivor and a therapist and the *moment* I realized that Astarion experienced trauma, I fell in love with the character in a whole new way. Larian did SUCH a wonderful job and knowing that you *get it*… just, yes. ❤
I cannot think of anyone who would deserve this more. And your speech was so emotional and kind, trying to remember everyone else who was not on the stage with you. Congratulation! Have a very lovely day!
SO deserved. Absolutely flawless performance; the things Neil can do with his voice, the complexities and the tiny details, are insane. Fantastic actor.
Especially after long days like today and the last few weeks, watching this video and seeing how he reacts to an award he truly and definitely deserves, it brightens my day. I get tired often from my two jobs, acting and school. Just taking this time to get some joy away from acting is knowing one of my favorite actors (You Neil) gets an award he truly deserves and Larian. I hope everyone has a nice day 🖤
Congrats man. You totally deserve it. Astarion has brought such light to peoples lives and brought so many people together. Nobody could've played him better.
Well fucking done, Neil. I watched this, went out into the woods near my house, and just cried. He deserves every accolade he received, alongside such a stellar writing team and support system. Well done and very well met. I could not be happier for him.
So happy we could support his brilliant work with voting. Literally cried after he mentioned being a survivor himself. This type of vulnerability requires bravery. And I'm so glad he mentioned it. It means a lot. It gives me hope that I can achieve something more. And the trauma doesn't define us
You completely deserved it Neil! You're such a genuine gentleman, you deserve all the adoration, unconditional love and support in any venture you have in life.
So many congrats, Neil! You absolutely deserved this win. Thank you for bringing life to a character that so many of us can relate to and for genuinely being a kind and compassionate human being. You are so very appreciated, and I can't wait to see where you go next because it's guaranteed to be wonderful. As always, thank you for being you.
Congratulations Neil! You have done a beautiful job bringing Astarion to life. No other character/game has evoked such powerful emotions for not only myself but I’m sure others as well. You deserve all the unconditional love and support you receive but if it gets to be a lil overwhelming, I hope you find time for yourself and your loved ones when needed. Thank you for your continued hard work and thank you to Larian Studios and everyone who worked on BG3 for doing an amazing job! We love y’all!! 🙏🏼💜
SO SO PROUD OF YOU NEIL. You 100% deserve this. Your portrayal means so much to me and many other survivors. Your talent deserves the praise it gets and more! So so so proud of you! Continue being you we love you very much 🙏
Well deserved. All of the VA in Baldur's Gate 3 are incredible and deserve praise but Neil has still managed to shine even in a sea of diamonds, not just in terms of his VO but as a human being, his dedication to the character of Astarion and going out of his way to connect with the fans and stream himself play the game and the amount of support he has even provided to not just his fellow co-stars but also fans who streamed the game is something I've never before seen from any actor of his caliber. Absolutely amazing person.
i was watching this live and honestly teared up during neil’s speech. he deserved this win so much!! and the same goes for the game itself and larian in their respective categories!!
Such a deserved award and love that Maggie presented it to you!!! Amazing recognition of your hard work, talent and sheer blood, sweat and tears that went into bringing this incredible character to life. Also huge respect to Stephen Rooney for his wonderful writing… loved your speech and the entire community wanted to hug you as well!! So happy for you. 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Oh my god OH MY GOD!! Darling Neil, YOU DID IT! I voted for you and just knew you would blow us all away. Your speech brought me to tears. Thank you for recognizing us survivors and standing with us as a survivor. You have no idea how much you and Astarion have changed my life. I’m getting a tattoo in honor of him, to remind myself that I am enough everyday. Anyways, enough about me. YOU!!! We’re celebrating you! So so proud, so many big hugs from us.
I'm so proud of Larian for making this game! So much energy and talent and most of all, passion went into it. I'm so happy you won, your performance on Astarion won me over and over! ❤
Such a lovely speech, and, since you've already thanked everyone else involved in creating Astarion, I just want to thank YOU for the incredible performance. I'm very proud, the award is well deserved ❤
Oooooooh myyyyy goooooood!!! The biggest most heartfelt congratulations Neil!!! I am so damn happy for you! I’ve never cried for a nomination before but I most certainly did just now! 😭 You are so humble and passionate and the fact that you truly understand the depth of this character is not only obvious in your performance but also very beautiful to see. I personally am one of the people who feel seen and represented by Astarion’s story and watching him throughout the journey is as nerve wracking as it is healing at points. Thank you! Thank you so so much for everything and for the emotions and passion you put into your work! You deserve to be recognize for it and this award is only the beginning I’m sure! ❤️ And OMG! Using this Astarion’s phrase at the end makes my heart flutter! I talked about it to a friend and how Astarion says it at the beginning of the relationship and at the end and how completely different it sounds. So this was just perfect! Congrats again! ✨
I’m so incredibly happy for you. I can’t imagine anyone else getting this award. You helped create one of the most beautiful characters I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience
Congratulations to you Neil! I feel like a proud parent (i'm actually way younger) seeing you getting the award! I hope you reached 100k milestone soon!!
Congratulations!!!! 🎉 I jumped from my sofa the moment she shout Neil Newbon !!!! U are so so so deserved The world can no longer hide such talented actor from us 🤜🏼🤛🏻
Thank you, so so so much for making me feel safe, understood and cared for. As a fellow survivor, I feel so incredibly seen and heard, thank you for creating such an amazing community. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Congrats!!
I am so happy Neil won. I was cheering every time BG3 won an award. It was was basically like Return of the King at the Oscars. BG3 just won everything it was nominated in. And with every right. Also if I saw that correctly Neil won with 43% in a category so many people were nominated in. That is a testament to how many people he reached and how many people loved his performance. I am so happy for him and the BG3 team. Thank you for that performance. We fans feel like you said at the end of your speech as well. "This is a gift, you know. Thank you. I won't forget it."
Neil made me *feel* Astarions pain. When we first met, I assumed a boilerplate, yet entertaining vampire. The further into the game I got, the more I felt for this... wounded soul. I can't imagine a better recipient for all the accolades that come your way you wonderful person!
I have two people that are inspiring me to wade through my own trauma right now. My mother and Neil. I cannot express how much I’m looking up to him, and how much he exemplifies the kind of person I’d like to be one day (of course it seems I’m “old”, but I think there is still time for me to heal since I know very few things and one of them is that it’s never too late). Resilient, determined, ambitious, kind, hard-working. I’m anything but these things, but I want to be now. Thank you, Neil. And thanks to Larian and everyone who helped in creating this incredible character and this incredible piece of art. Because yes, BG3 is actual, real art. In every conceivable way.
Congrats! You truly deserved this. Astarion's writing and your performance mean so much to me, as I'm a survivor myself of multiple SAs. Astarion has helped me realize that boundaries are a thing that I really should set. That I can say "No". Though it's one of the worst things in the world to say "No" in any number of ways and have someone ignore you. He's taught me I CAN heal, and perhaps even fully trust people again. That it's okay to be scared, but being vulnerable with those you DO trust and allowing them to help you heal can change everything for the better. He's also taught me that it's okay to heal at my own pace; that I don't need to rush things. I could probably go on, but I'm sure anyone reading this gets the gist. So once again, thank you so much for giving your all in this performance, it's really helped so many people, including myself. Best wishes and utmost happiness to you. ( And anyone who reads this
Congratulations Neil, you and all Larian team deserve what you are getting. Everyone that played the game can see all the love you all have put into this game. Thank you for giving us that remarkable game that is for sure one of the best i've ever played.
Just got to the point in the game where Astarion says "Thank you. This is a gift. I won't forget it." So powerful and beautiful thank you Mr. Newbon and everyone involved!

Geralt way deeper. Shepard too
Congratulations Neil! Your speech was very sweet and beautiful! Thank you for your performance as Astarion, you deserve this award!
A wonderful speech, from a wonderful and clearly moved man. You are evidently deeply loved by those who know you, and definitely deeply appreciated by those of us who don't know you.
Thank you for everything you (and Stephen) have given to us with this character and this portrayal. ❤
He really hold himself not to cry 😢. Congrats Neil!

True. Just double checked - when they were nominated in a category they won it. And it's absolutely bloody well deserved!
@@jantaria4393 YES DEFINITELY
It's the only time I've ever bothered to go out of my way and vote for something like this, I voted for Neil because his acting for Astarion was so passionate that it really. Truly. Brought the game to life. So happy for him❤
Do regular people vote for the winners of the golden joystick?
It was a gift to have you as Astarion. We will not forget it either. ❤

Neil totally deserves that. But also the narrator voice was exceptional.
I'm so happy for you 😭😭😭🙏👏👏
Neil is such an awesome person tbh i cannot imagine Astarion being such a fascinating interessting character if someone else would have been "our Astarion".
Very much deserved, Neil! Beautiful speech, you are a beautiful person. You and Stephen Rooney created a beautiful character in Astarion!
Legitimately I screamed “YES NEIL” the moment I read the title, so happy for you Neil!!! ❤️
Incredibly deserved. You gave Astarion a soul and your work will live on eternaly. Thank you Neil and all the best for your future!
I cannot think of anyone who would deserve this more. And your speech was so emotional and kind, trying to remember everyone else who was not on the stage with you. Congratulation! Have a very lovely day!
congrats neil.
DAMN! Congratulations, you definitely deserve it!
Thank you Blue for uploading this! beautiful moment, the award is well deserved and i was so happy to watch Neil's speech, truly amazing.
I'm so happy for you, Neil! Much congratulations to you, you really deserve it.
He got more time here to talk than the game awards.
SO SO PROUD OF YOU NEIL. You 100% deserve this. Your portrayal means so much to me and many other survivors. Your talent deserves the praise it gets and more! So so so proud of you! Continue being you we love you very much 🙏
So happy for him. Well deserved. Congratulations Neil!

This is so well deserved and your speech was so touching. Congratulations!
So well deserved, congratulations!!!

I am so damn happy for you! I’ve never cried for a nomination before but I most certainly did just now! 😭
You are so humble and passionate and the fact that you truly understand the depth of this character is not only obvious in your performance but also very beautiful to see.
And OMG! Using this Astarion’s phrase at the end makes my heart flutter! I talked about it to a friend and how Astarion says it at the beginning of the relationship and at the end and how completely different it sounds. So this was just perfect! Congrats again! ✨
Well deserved Neil

Congratulations Neil! You deserved it! ❤ Thank you for your hard work! Hugs from Poland for you! ❤
Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you :D you absolutely earned it
Congratulations Neil!
