- Ok this is for everyone who asked for a "how to" video on the 2022 Harley-Davidson Nightster Cheap "O'Reillys" exhaust.
part used was the 4 inch resonator from O'Reilly Auto parts.
Spectre Performance 2 to 3 inch inlet round exhaust tail pipe tip.

It was fun to experiment with this, and it did make the bike sound a ton better, over stock. I have since gone back to the stock exhaust and punched a larger hole in the baffle to allow a little more sound. This is way more ridable for long runs. I will not be going back to the resonator due to it being too loud. Ill wait for a nice kit to come out.

I've had the 2022 Nightster for a year now, with very little complaints except for the sound. Got crazy today and tried this out. Took about two hours including the trip to O'Reilly's. All in all, way louder than I expected and definitely made people look my way. On my test ride ( about 1/2 hour), I didn't notice and performance changes, but I could see how after a which the noise could get annoying, but there are guys I've ridden with that seem to have more extreme sounding bikes. I do get some popping on the down revs. I'm now curious about and in between option. Also there is no third o2 sensor on the 2022, just a space for it.

i did that to mine.... loved it!! Some guy at the dealer told me im gonna need to tuned in the engine cause that might cause to run lean!!! i said yeah OK maybe , will see.. im glad that im not the only one doing this.. good job!!!
Didnt feel any motor issues , no lean, no power loss, nothin drove exactly the same....just louder lol
@@gatekeeperoffroad that’s right. I already have 4500 miles and still is turning heads with sound. Even though, another persona asked me what kind of engine it has, caused sound like a V-twin!! 😎😎😎😎. Super bad ass! And the part when I left throttle goes…. It bubbles and farts !!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰.
@Yonnell Medina glad youre enjoying it. I really did on mine too. But i do alot of over 2 hour rides....it makes my right esr ring after a while lol. So i went quiter. Lol
@@gatekeeperoffroad what I started to do it’s use a earphone on that side with the helmet on and play music. Problem solved.
@Yonnell Medina i use Cardo pack talk black for music and phone while riding. Even with earplugs it was still irritating lol iv been thinking about building a custom exhaust with a servo....loud when i want....quiet when i want lol

Good deal. Worked good for me for a while. But on long rides....even with ear plugs...my right ear ended up fatigued.
Can you post up a video of how the bike sounds with the stock pipe and larger hole in the baffle? I've been considering this but not quite certain how to go about it or how it'll sound. So far there are no videos that show that sound.
Ill post that in a couple days. Im working on a couple things right now and cant start it. Ill say....it isnt a noticeable difference. I just took a long 5/8 ish thick ground stake and poked it through the baffle....ill show a vid on that. I think im gonna try a hole saw next and really open it up. Ill make videos for all of this lol
but this fflow pipe must be lengthy like stock one🤟🏼
I was so confused at first as to why the exhaust was on the left side of the bike haha

I will not be going back to the resonator due to it being too loud." When you punched the resonator, did you slide the muffler off, flip it upside down and tap it out? Use a hole saw? Was wanting to do this myself but wasn't sure which way to go about it.
I’m out of Azusa CA with a 2023 nightster trying to do the same, would love some help doing that, if you can lol

What about cutting it at the down sweep just before the Y and welding dual extensions on to it? Have you tried anything like that or do you think it would run into the dame issue of being TOO LOUD? I'm going to be picking up my Nightster soon and the exhaust being quiet is my only real issue with it.
You can do aaanything with a little fab work. I think modifying it for dual exhaust would look a ton better. With an x pipe you may be able to retain the performance as well. But without a good muffler this bike it LOUD. Has a slight higher pitch tone somewhere between a M8 and a crotch rocket lol so its tough to say how that setup would sound. This video was just a quick and dirty way to get your bike loud without a ton of modifications
Nice. What did you do with the O2 sensor?
i did not have an O2 sensor on my bike....although i did see the hole for one....it was plugged by a stainless plug from the factory.

@jonny sahyouni oh yah i guess so. Im in California too....so its weird to not have O2 sensors everywhere lol.

@John Buntin it does for sure. Has a new Bass sound to it. It was just waaaay to loud for me lol
I don’t understand why you’d want to have a louder exhaust. The thing a like most about my Nightster special is that it’s quiet and doesn’t annoy my neighbors.

I have the same bike... I just fix my back suspension now I have to adjust the front.... how do I do that???

Traded in for a Nightster and I'm wanting to try this.
Did this cause any lean issues or CEL?
Ran for about 3 weeks with this setup. No CEL and no performance issues that i noticed....

Did it on my Sportster and almost immediately had lean issues.
@@MitchellCole-df1zi yah i didnt notice any performance issues. but i only rose like this for about 3 weeks. its insanely loud...i ended up puting back the stock muffler till i found something i like.

You just straight piped it my boy. Have fun destroying your valves on that new tech driven motor. I wouldn't do shit to a new motor until they start releasing enough aftermarket and I see enough good reviews. Sounds way better but without a tune you are going to be running hot as hell.

is there any backfiring on any modes?
I would say the exhaust pops here and there.....but i wouldnt call it back firing.
@@gatekeeperoffroad I just read that you removed it. Why it being loud caused you to remove it? Isn't that what you were going for?
@Isaac Sosa well i was experimenting. I would say for me...this mod is TOO loud. I would like something in between stock and this as i do long rides on this bike and my right ear gets fatigued even with good ear plugs. So i have since punched a larger hole in the stock exhaust baffle and am running this configuration untill i decide to try something different. I liked the sound this resonator produced. It gave the bike a much lower sound. But the Db levels were too much for long rides (in my opinion) around town was no big deal.
I cut my original in half and removed the baffle, I liked the tone but it was too loud, I have since welded it back together and it's now much better than stock with no backfiring

Lol the video is inverted. The bike is normal.
Warrantee, what warrantee? This is exactly what Harley uses to void any claims you have wether it’s related to the exhaust or not so be aware of that little factoid before you decide to do this
Im a builder and modify the crap out of everything i buy. Warranty or not. Iv already replaced bars, brake lines, paint, tank, lights. If you are scared of losing your warranty, this content is not for you.
@@gatekeeperoffroad not scared I know how the dealerships work and if you mod as do I if a warrantee issue comes up your on your own. I’ve been riding and building for 38 years kid relax

This will cause havoc on the system…. Either don’t do it or be ready to pay for a tune

I traded in this bike for a new LRST....pretty happy with it so far
that sounds like crap, but there isn't much help for the sound of the rev max engines, they just sound lousy. shame, rest ofthe bike is kick ass but they sound like a cheap bargain brand side by side lol just horrible. If i had one of these bikes, i'd make it as quiet as possible to hide the shame of that exhaust noise. just horrid.
Stock is pretty embarrassing....but in person the sound with a modified exhaust is not terrible. The video does not do it justice there is alot of low noise unheard by the phone camera. It's definitely different than the air-cooled stuff. But still sounds good.

Looks like a waste of time and effort, for all the work, and very little sound improvement.
Do they not make a full exhaust for this bike yet all ive seen about this bike is people having to make an exhaust for it.
None yet. They have slip on mufflers but there is only like 2... and they arent very impressive.
