DFW Commuter Trains: The Trinity Railway Express

- For the first of three videos showing off the commuter trains of DFW we have the Trinity Railway Express on their 34 mile line from Fort Worth to Dallas. In future videos I will feature Trinity Metro's TEXRail and DCTA's A-Train.
The Trinity Railway Express, or TRE, began operations in 1996 on a 10 mile section from Dallas to Irving. Being co-owned by Trinity Metro in Fort Worth and DART in Dallas they made great strides in extending the line to Fort Worth to connect the two cities and were in Fort Worth by 2001. They run with a mix of EMD F59PH, F59PHI and F40PH locomotives hauling Bombardier and Hawker Siddeley bi-level cars. As of Fall 2020 the two F59PHI locomotives are in Washington state receiving mid-life overhauls. Unlike most commuter services in North America the TRE doesn't run a commuter heavy schedule with inbound service in the morning and outbound in the evening. They have trains going each way at regular intervals all day, with increased service both ways during the rush hours.
Enjoy as you watch TRE trains zip back and forth during a day of normal operations as well as an appearance by Herzog's two GP9u locomotives towards the end!

F59 power and K5LA's, just awesome!
126 has one of the greatest horns in the f59ph fleet
TRE is most certainly one of the finest systems around. You get nothing but these F59PHs and "Old" Cab Cars, and nothing but spectacular K5LAs (the ones on the Cab Cars are especially great). All on top of that really nice Texas Flag Paint Scheme. There's nothing negative I can think of.
And I'll tell you, at 3:35, it sure makes me happy seeing 1058 like that. It has been a very long time since I have ever seen a Hawker Siddeley Coach looking so clean. Knowing those cars date back to 1978 and still see regular service, it gives me great hope.
I completely agree! Expect to see the rest of the fleet matching 1058, they're currently repainting their equipment to get them looking fresh again. Others already done include 1009, 1004, and 1057
Yeah, 1057 looks great here too, and I'm aware that 1051 is out being fixed up as we speak.
Also, I hope when it's time to treat 1048 and 1049 as such, they turn them back into 1000 and 1001. It'd be good to have two extra Cab Cars to go alongside the F40PHs they soon plan to buy. And besides, 1000 and 1001 are primordial UTDC Cab Cars. It'd always be good to hang on to at least a couple fully active samples of the Bombardiers' ancient ancestors. They're obscure but valuable pieces of history.
Oh yeah not only K5LAs anymore the new TRE F40s have ugly P5s

I noticed that most of the horns on the TRE either got better or louder since march
All of the locomotives have PTC. Which helps makes the horns louder

Seen those cement and dump trucks speeding the Callaway cemetery Road crossing goes to show that that's one of the most dangerous crossings on the TRE subdivision especially after one of the engines hit a dump truck refresh my memory what number that was

On Friday (10-23) the sets I saw were very good. 1004 may have the best horn out of all Cab Cars on the TRE. They had what I would call "The Perfect Set"(123 & 1004) running all day and I saw 120,1002,330,310 and 1008 at the yard,One of those five I am very thankful didn't run on Friday.
Sounds like they hadn't changed anything up from when this was filmed (10/19)

Does this train service share tracks with other railroads or are they the only one on this corridor?
BNSF uses it when needed
BNSF Uses it as well for some trains
Why do the F59ph horns sound so quiet from a distance?
The biggest reason is the horn is placed halfway down the locomotive on the roof as well as being behind the exhaust

You have any idea when TRE is bringing back the F59PHI locomotives?
One (570) returned in November and is back in service, the other one (569) should be back within the next couple months

8:58 how rare is it to see an eastbound on track 1 and a westbound on track 2 at west irving?
Not rare at all actually, this is how they do it when trains leave the yard at the beginning of rush hour. Happens at 2:25/3:25/4:25PM every weekday
