Hi Pete! Actually you taught me, most everything, from 0 subs to 300,000 subscriber right now. You motivated me so much. Thanks bruh. A very big thanks to you. Hi from Malaysia.
You are lucky to have a supportive wife. We need to be surrounded by positive supportive people and not the opposite. And I couldn't agree more with what you said 👏🏻 Well done and good luck 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing Peter! It is so true, it took me 3 yrs to get the colour grading for my videos that I am now super happy with & now im up to my next challenge. Good things sure dont come easy 💪
Absolutely man! Whenever I notice that I'm always working on client projects alone, even though I absolutely enjoy what I do for work, I try to take a step back and dig my hands deep into something new, challenging and fresh.
This is super timely, just released my "one for me" yesterday. It's been a while since I did one but I really wanted to stretch myself and learn something! Great video dude!
Pete..... You have no idea how much I needed this. This year I had one of my busiest years yet for my freelance work, constantly filming and editing for other people and lately I have felt creatively empty. I totally felt that I haven't done a project for me in a long time. Ive been meaning to make a short-film, I think now is the time to do it! THANK YOU! 😀
This is a huge part of being a working artist that I don't hear people talking about often. It's so easy to get so busy with work that you run out of time to actually go be an artist. As pandemic restrictions have been lifting, I've been so busy with traveling and doing gigs that I've barely had any time to work on my own stuff, so now I'm looking at ways to carve out some chunks of time in my schedule to make sure it's getting done. At the end of the day, these personal projects often end up being the most important even if they don't pay.
So true. Sometimes you have to relinquish the desire to do what you know works, in order to experiment and grow. And to do something like a passion project is the perfect way to make that experimentation meaningful.
I am not a photographer or filmmaker but this hits home for me as a dog trainer. I am always working with dog owners, teaching and training dogs and dog owners, making UA-cam videos, and never focusing on my own dogs as much as I should. I have a dog that needs my help because I adopted her and she has some issues and never thought to work on her as my own project to help her and better myself. Thank you for reminding me and helping me get better with my dog training and my video making.
Man, this one got me. I have been pushing hard after my family is in bed each night trying to chip away at my thing - it can be incredibly demotivating between my own procrastination or trying to match the quality of other people. This was a great reminder to just keep doing whatever that thing is for the sake of doing it! Many thanks.
Such an important message! We should all keep challenging ourselves every day to refine our craft & become better than we were yesterday. Continue doing what you love to become better couldn’t be more important or relevant for all of us creatives! 👍
Thank you so much for this inspiring topic, Pete! I gave up all my passions for a job because I was on the extreme end over there in creative overload land, but it's time to come back and I needed to hear this!
A much needed reminder as I’m just in the process of trying to build a business and clients. And also as I’m wanting to do my own short film on mental illness but I keep pushing it off. Pete. I needed to hear this and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thank you !
Truly great advice. Too long endlessly churning and burning for others, I forgot myself as well. Just saw this today and it couldn't have come at a better time. Now doing a passion project documentary myself. Toning up the shooting and editing skills, and continuing to learn new stuff, always. That's where it's at. And I get inspired by you and your channel. Thanks for sharing your tid bits over the years. Long time lisnah, first time cwalluh. Keep crushing.
As an Agile Coach (day job) and a creative, this spoke to me. No matter what your job is, if you aren't setting aside time to hone your craft, then its tough to grow. Thanks for that reminder, Pete and safe travels here to the States!
The timing of this video for me was almost perfect! Been in a funk since March 2020, and I was just thinking the exact same thing. Timing is everything. Thank you.
Made a video called “UA-cam for YOU vs UA-cam for THEM. This really hit home Pete🤙Don’t care if anyone watches the video, this isn’t about that. I think when you’ve been doing UA-cam for, we’ll, a long time and have had success with it, it does become very easy to just fall into a groove. Fantastic reminder. Fantastic video as always. Keep creating and keep progressing. Stoked for the AVA doc dude!
Hey Peter! Great video, and it actually reminded me how I'm a photographer first, BUT also how I should continue my journey on UA-cam as well. Appreciate the energy! Cheers.
Definitely resonates man, good reminder and can't wait to check it out once you finish this passion project up one day - glad you're doing something to work on your craft
Thank you for this! Just recently been full time creative for 1.5 years and turned my passion into what I do but I’ve been feeling lost because I haven’t had time for any self projects, between client work, family and everyday life it’s hard to balance or to cut out time. But your suggestion of building something overtime is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you!
in martial arts thre is a saying , your ability is like a boiling kettle .. you need to keep it boiling .. if you stop working/training for the shortest time, the water cools
THANK YOU FOR THIS PETE! I'm kinda demotivated to edit any of the photos I took right now but I'm trying and well your video just makes my day! Thank You! You're my inspiration.❤️
Dear person that's reading this, we don't know each others but I wish you all the best in life ❤️ don't ever blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Your smile is precious and a key for happy life 🙏
This is exactly what I need right now. Last few months my photography has been pretty much none existent. Work seems to swallow every spare minute. But this is what I need to do. Make my own project taking time for myself. Thanks Pete. I'll be improving my video quality. Thats my goal.
So very true! I'm a tutorial maker and have a hard time finding time to make stuff just cuz I wanna. In fact, that's on my latest vision board, but I haven't made it happen yet. Thanks for the creative nudge!
Oh man. Perfect timing for this message. Haven’t really done anything I was 100% passionate about in over a year, and have been looking for that spark (and the time) to get it going again. Thanks for this video. P.S. if you’re still in CA and still have the time (I’m sure you don’t 😂) I have 4 bikes in the garage and some trails to whip around close by!
i’m not sure i agree with all of these points (lots of these seem like a road to fast burn out). But you’ve heard of Peter and you’ve never heard of me, so i’m almost certainly wrong
You’ve rekindled my passion to pursue my dream of UA-cam. It’s always been a mental hurdle all these years. I can’t wait to look back one day and see my channel is bigger if not bigger than yours. Thanks Peter!
This resonated with me for sure. My rule for myself is to always have one passion project in some stage of production at all times - doesn't matter what stage - pre-production (even just brainstorming) all the way through to editing/completion. Just always have something going. Those projects have been the most rewarding and ironically, open up the most doors. Good work, Pete!
Such a good mindset to have. I totally agree. Time flies sometimes and you realise you've been going through a routine for weeks and haven't worked on developing any new skills.
It's nice to see compliancy is a thing at any level. I struggle with getting lazy and stuck in the same groove all the time. Much love Pete you're the best.
You're a gem of a human being and you inspire me every day. I'm so happy I found your videos on Twitter. And you have inspired me so much in my own photography career. Thank you for being you and I love watching your journey and I feel the exact same way you feel about photography, its nice knowing im not the only one. ❤
Peter! Spot on! YES! This speaks directly to me. I always have several passion projects going, but don't always have the inspiration to knock them out! I usually complete one or two a year, but this right here... It's validation for me. Go knock it out my friend. Do it for you (then share it with us 😊)
This is absolutely true. Selecting a project that you love to do and spending time on it is absolutely motivating. Even a little progress on this project makes you more satisfied than many other things we go after!!!
I don't know how you do it, but you've been speaking to my soul for four years now. The timeliness of your messages is uncanny, and time after time you throw out a video that is exactly what I needed to hear at exactly the right time. Keep it up, man.
Thanks Peter, this has really helped! I am at the start of a 3-4 year project and I am going to have this video as a moral boost when the going get tough, and I know things will get tough along the track, but I am going to do this!
Perfect Timing Peter. Heading to Nova Scotia next month on the next leg of my across Canada journey. 1 photographer. 1 Gown. And 4 models in each province and territory in our AMAZING nation. Just for me.
Thank you, Peter. It helps to get confirmation on this from you. I had a hunch about it. My challenge has been giving myself permission to carve out the time. "Job" - and personal responsibilities - crowd out it out.
This is such a great message. What’s Interesting yo me is how creativity finds different outlets. I’m an award winning and bestselling novelist who went through a life upheaval and haven’t written a novel in years and just started a UA-cam channel finding it a fun alternative creative outlet. Couldn't agree more. Currently working on a documentary about my friend who hiked the Appalachian Trail. Completely outside of my normal work. Just for fun. And I've learned SO much thus far and it's the most fun creating that I've had in a while. Do one for you!
You always get me to feel better after a rough day with your happy kind. You inspire me to do so much more and challenge myself. My anxiety went way up watching this. Did you take one breath in this vid? But this is actually very needed with the current headspace I'm in. Have not picked up my camera since April but i have so many things i want to do. This was the kick on the behind i needed.
Thank you on a Massive scale for this. Really needed it. I was about to quit! Creating cooking shows is super difficult and time-consuming with what seems as no result or return. As a Chef for 28 years, covid took everything from us and thought UA-cam would be a great way to share my passion for food and cooking. Mr. McKinnon on behalf of my entire family thank you a million times over. This video put things in perspective, I will Press On. Stay Blessed Brother much appreciated. Aloha
This is why I create content. I’ve been slowly getting better at creating films that capture my own intuition. As I keep filming on a weekly basis I’m learning more and more to just create. It’s been an incredible release from the stresses of filming for others
Great advice Peter, I am looking forward to getting my own channel off the ground! You're a huge inspiration to me and I am sure many of us! Safe travels!
