Pete..... You have no idea how much I needed this. This year I had one of my busiest years yet for my freelance work, constantly filming and editing for other people and lately I have felt creatively empty. I totally felt that I haven't done a project for me in a long time. Ive been meaning to make a short-film, I think now is the time to do it! THANK YOU! 😀

  • @MinaSalome

This is a huge part of being a working artist that I don't hear people talking about often. It's so easy to get so busy with work that you run out of time to actually go be an artist. As pandemic restrictions have been lifting, I've been so busy with traveling and doing gigs that I've barely had any time to work on my own stuff, so now I'm looking at ways to carve out some chunks of time in my schedule to make sure it's getting done. At the end of the day, these personal projects often end up being the most important even if they don't pay.

I am not a photographer or filmmaker but this hits home for me as a dog trainer. I am always working with dog owners, teaching and training dogs and dog owners, making UA-cam videos, and never focusing on my own dogs as much as I should. I have a dog that needs my help because I adopted her and she has some issues and never thought to work on her as my own project to help her and better myself. Thank you for reminding me and helping me get better with my dog training and my video making.

My rule for myself is to always have one passion project in some stage of production at all times - doesn't matter what stage - pre-production (even just brainstorming) all the way through to editing/completion. Not all of us have the opportunity to shoot photos & videos for a living but it’s more of a case of: go to work, make the boss happy, complete your task.. and long the lines the need of spending some time with the creative side of yourself suddenly doesn’t seem that important. However, all this time the creative side has been the main fuel motivating and encouraging us to try new things in life.

Taking everything and the kitchen sink can be beneficial but also can make a shoot more complicated than it needs to be.

Great advice as usual Pete! I try to remind myself of this constantly! It's easy to get caught up in the day to day!

Thanks for the reminder. Presently feeling stuck. The key to being unstuck is pushing the limits. Love this Peter. Stay safe out there!
