Sadly I believe that all the good young players (Slafkovsky, Regenda, Nemec, Sykora) will meet the same fate like our current NHL players, never have the time to come back for the championship…
We are a poorish country compared to the likes of Finland, Sweden, Canada & Switzerland. You have great internal leagues which can pay enough for many great players in your country. Sucks that the NHL messes up these championships…
Then again, if it weren’t for the NHL, Canada and the US would dominate each year.

This is probably the most wholesome comment section on UA-cam lol. Not that I'm complaining though, Slovakia really showed up in a match where I thought Finland would dominate completely.
Slovaks and Finns get along very well and they respect each other
Mentally this was an extremely difficult game for Finland. Long awaited home tournament, packed house, they won the group and got the "perfect opponent" for the QF, and the QF is always the game that determines whether the tournament was a success or a failure, lose and it's over. Combine that with the shock start of being down 2-0 in the first, and you can say that team Finland showed some incredible fighting spirit and mental toughness.

Dobře jste zabojovali, bratři, a proti největším favoritům turnaje jste předvedli stokrát víc, než my. Mnohem zkušenější tým (a navíc domácí) přehrál vaše mladíky až ve třetí třetině. Hráče jako Slafkovský, Nemec, Sýkora čeká velká budoucnost a nedivil bych se kdyby to mistrovství jednou vyhráli.

We´ve been hearing this for the last 10 years and we can still barely make it to the quarterfinals..
Sad for the loss, but we lost against a better team. Finnish team is great and it is breathtaking that such small country population wise (same as Slovakia) can be so good and dominate the world...kinda like we did in the early 2000s :( Just happy that Finland won two championships that were played in Slovakia, and hope they reach the gold this year as well!

@@PalavaSieni Our time never come - These boys who played today will be playing in the NHL next year. So no one comes to help us in 2023 tournament. We just make new team with new youngsters and fail in another tournament. Thats the Slovak hockey reality. This is repeated every year. So we can be glad we didn't fall out of the A category. Whenever there is something good in Slovakia, we sell it abroad.

Jesus on a wheel, this was hands down the most stressful game in all tournament thus far. We were screaming ourselves hoarse watching the game, and though I'll always root for the Leijonat, team Slovakia is so goddamn awe-inducing! Onwards and upwards, the Slovak time is coming!

This has to be one of the toughest defeats I'll probably live through: The youngest team on the tournament manages to completely stun the most toughest team, who's also the biggest gold medal favourite AND the game host with an opening score of 2-0! I wouldnt even be mad if I knew we havent had a chance from the start, but this was extremely depressing, seeing the Slovaks gradually starting to lose because of rookie mistakes. Even though I am an enthusiastic fan of our game, I really hate this god forsaken cursed cycle that we cannot break out of.....

As unbelievable as it may sound, I didn't even fall into complete despair after the shock start. That was probably one of the toughest places these players have been in mentally in their careers. Down 2-0 in front of 10 000+ home fans against an underdog team who's coming at you with everything they've got on every single shift. Losing the QF would have made this long awaited home tournament a massive disappointment, and it was very close.
BUT in that bleak moment I remembered that I've seen the kind of fighting spirit it takes to overcome this before from Jukka Jalonen's team, and sure enough they delivered! With that kind of mental resilience and that kind of composure behind the bench Finland has everything it takes to win it all again.

@@shif06 No při našem zápasu s Finskem jsem to špatně nesl.. šance byly ale ve finále nic z nich.. Kdyby naši hráli jako vaši to bych pak byl na ten český hokej zase trochu víc pyšný 😀🇨🇿❤️🇸🇰.. Já furt koukám jak hokej vypadal v roce 2010 a 1998 tak dnes mi to přijde slabší.. Ale musím si říct že jsem se podíval ze zvědavosti na zápas ČSSR vs SSSR (ZSSR) v roce 1968 a ta naše společná hymna byla tak pěkná, že jak jsem slyšel "Nad Tatrou sa blýská" tak mě přeběhl mráz po zádech 😁 Škoda že aspoň na ten hokej se nemůžeme spojit
Was really hoping to see Slovakia win but they fought hard. Definitely a bright spot of this tournament.
Thanks for a tough game Slovakia, I was biting my nails and hands until the end. Just a couple of lucky bounces would have changed the outcome, and the 1st period was really good hockey from you guys; you basically played Finland's game better than Finland in the first 20 minutes, without losing your own style or creativity in the process. You are no pushovers.
Chin up! Slafkovsky will become a real powerhouse, you have some other interesting players coming out too, and you always have that "small but proud, hardworking nation" thing going for you. Better luck next year!

It started so nice and then it crumbled. We played well and it was really shame of the second goal... it was just free score for Fins. But the match was tense most of the time. As it should be. Good game!

How is the quality so weak at the year 2022?
Finland is a strong team, maybe pegged for gold, and deserved the win. But the Finns can be beat. Don't count the USA out; the team has some excellent talent, speed, and they work hard. the quarter final should be a great game.

At the beginning I was shocked (no more 12.MAY 2000 Slo-Fin 3-1 semifinal) but MÖRKÖ comes and the Leijonat resurrected. Big fight was and Slovakia was so much better that the 2022 Olympics game against Finland.
But finally always the biggest won! Suomi on paras! Kiitos Poika! 😉 One more thing if Anttila had been selfish...but he is a Hero a sankareit!

@@likepick Probably because he was looking at it at a different angel. The way I saw it on the screen it was clear that one player was office, possible two, before the puck came over the line. The coaches have only a limited time of asking it to be checked, and as it was so early in the game, maybe he decided to save his ask for things to be checked for a later time in the game.
