I was sleeping and woke up and decided to check in on this game and it was 3 - 1 in the third so I thought no way Canada is going to win, but watched anyway.... OMG one of the most crazy finishes ever. You can never count Team Canada out!

@@ariarion137 2019 quarterfinal loss, 2021 didn't even make the quarterfinals(!), 2022 quarterfinal loss for Sweden in recent years. 2017 and 2018 golds are nice and all but they are history now. Obviously Switzerland hasn't done much better (still better since at least they made it to the quarterfinals in 2021) but they're a rising hockey nation while Sweden should be a reigning powerhouse by all metrics.
Sweden could rightfully be expected to be in the final each and every single year while Switzerland could realistically be expected to make the quarterfinals every year with the potential for an upset there.
This year I definitely expected them to roll past the US but unfortunately they didn't come through. But while the 3-0 loss against the US is a learning experience for a rising hockey nation, taking the 3-0 lead and blowing it only to lose in overtime is an absolute asswhooping and pretty much inexcusable for a hockey powerhouse such as Sweden.
I turned off the TV after 3:0. After some while, my dad texted me "What a comeback!"

A comeback from such a big deficit against a powerhouse like Sweden is probably a game changer for the Canadian team in this years tournament. This will give them incredible momentum going forward through the semis and into the finals. They were mediocre in much of this years tournament and now I think we will see fireworks. The giants have woken up and if we could get a Canada vs Finland final, it will be epic
The defeat against Russia last year did the every same thing that team was even worse in the round Robin and downright embarrassing to watch.... then they asspull their way to the finals, play better and get enough points to beat Sweden for a 4th place spot....
And upset Russia.... strange
@@Matanumi Much of that has to do with the Canadian teams not playing together before the tournament. So, it takes several games until they play good as a team. Plus, they get motivated more for elimination games than other games.
But a lot of this win was due to Sweden getting an early lead then sitting back and trying to kill time. I don't recall the last time that I saw a period where one team got close to 19 shots to one.

@Petersson In best on best they're mediocre mostly because they whine and carry on about referees and fairness etc. The Finns, now there's a nation and team that just shows up, plays the game and beats the odds enough to be called powerhouse.

I douno man.... they are kinda like the leafs of international hockey- popular, stacked, play well in the regular group play, but get a good opponent in elimination and get bounced before the gold

After the second period ended I was ready to say congrats to Ullmark for a hell of a game. He still played incredible and if it weren't for him this game would have been over after the 2nd period. They often play that song at the World Championships. It is not the same as when it is played in an NHL arena. This was in Finland and Sweden is not a home team controlling what is played in the arena. This was not a Sweden home game in any way.

The situation at the last year's Ice Hockey World Championship was almost identical, when the Canadian team, to my great regret, defeated the rather strong Russian team in overtime, with a total score of 2:1. This year the result was even more shocking. Just an amazing game - Ice Hockey, built on speed, accuracy, endurance, effective interaction of players and faith in Victory.

That's the problem. Too many teams think that they have won before the game is over. Canada never quits until the end. They have a history of making late game comebacks. Scored with one second left against Switzerland a couple of years ago.

What have amazed me with this Swedish team is that they were going 100 % into all situations which was the secret to success against Chechs and Finns. When the Canadians really started to throw tackles around , the Swedes slowly but surely lost interest to maintain this 100 % rate and therefor lost momentum. You could tell already in the power play late in the second that Sweden had lost all offensive efforts.
I had a feeling after the 2nd period that we was going to lose. This is what happens if you play too passive and defensive. Well done Canada.
Right. They only got one shot in the second period. Although they did score on it. Canada never gives up, they keep playing until the end. A couple of years ago they scored with one second left in the third and went on to win that as well.
