I’m glad to see the game getting this kind of response. Fighting games in general have been trying to become more approachable for years, and SF6 in particular does a really good job of that.
There's some games out there that have done mixing Fighter-like combat with single player experiences. Like Kya: Dark Lineage for PS2, which is like if you took the art direction of Rayman 2 and 3, as well as some other elements from those games like wind gliding and board riding, made the main character a young woman with pretty cool blue dreadlocks, gave her a boomerang she can use as hair clip, and the combat style of Tekken. More recently, there was Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. The fun there is finding new combat stances and special attacks as you explore a *bizarre* world of weird creatures, through the eyes of one of its residents. It's part of the Zeno Clash series, parts 1 and 2 of which had already come out years ago and are first person as opposed to third. I definitely recommend looking into both games!
I really do think more games should have this kind of character customization. It started with XenoVerse, it's continued in Sonic Forces, there are probably many other examples I can't think of, but SF6 has definitely got me on board with it's story mode.
@@TheRedCap30I still believe 3ds Miitopia was better because it randomly assigned Miis from online. Shriek and Waluigi being an angry couple by sheer luck and such
Maximillian dood made a recent serie of videos detailing every main title street fighter game since the first one and it honestly was one the BEST summaries of a series i have ever seen, if anyone reads this, i highly recommend watching them.
Thorgi's Arcade Channel also uploaded his first part of SF retrospective. It is not summaries, he goes really in depth. But it is worth watching. His part one is almost 2 hours long and he just covers SF1 and 2 with all the official SF2 versions.
It's good to hear this game has now gotten every fan, hardcore and casual, together. I think it's high time I get back on the fighting game train, alongside DBZ Fighters and so on.
Loved the video, small correction: modern controls only reduce the damage of 1-button special moves, normals deal the same damage and if you take the risk of doing the motion for specials and supers you can deal full damage. Really excited to see how it will be used at high levels
As someone who has wanted to play fighting games and "get good" for FOREVER it's so fucking approachable for someone like me. I was on a 7 game winstreak today, versus opponents who weren't just acting like bots. I can't say that I've ever played a more satisfying and rewarding fighting game ever. I feel like I'm progressing organically and not hitting that wall I almost inevitably hit with fighting games. I don't have time to learn inputs and as a game to just pick up and play a few matches online or with my friends and actually have a chance to WIN and feel accomplished even if I lose is something I've never experienced with a fighting game ever.

I'm a fighting game novice, and I wish more of these games had robust single player modes like World Tour. It gives you a healthy amount of content to chip away at, and will make solo players feel like their money was well spent. The only other (non-Smash Bros) game I can recall seeing this sort of thing in is Granblue Fantasy Versus with it's RPG Mode.

With the worldwide success of DBFZ, Smash Ultimate, Guilty Gear, and now Street Fighter 6, it really feels like we've entered a new golden age of fighting games. Here's to hoping Tekken 8 and MK1 can continue the momentum.
SF4 had SF2 vibes and yea this actually is a continuation of SF3. SF4 and 5 take place after the events of SF2 but before SF3. SF6 is 5 years after SF3, confusing I know lol.
My first arcade memory was being at fun city on the beach watching the teenagers play sf2 (I think turbo) on the large monitor cabinet. It was amazing 😊
so, here's a balancing tip for those concerned about how "simple" it is to just bust out a super or special move, if the move in question is a charge move then you'll still need to hold that direction down for a couple seconds to get it to proc but there's no whiplash from having to tap the opposite direction. This keeps classic and modern ballanced in that way.
The only sf game I’ve Ever played is the anniversary collection, I just couldn’t get the hang of it. The last time I played was years ago, but i’m Thinking about jumping back in with this installment.
I've been having a blast after coming back to SF in years. I have a lot to relearn and I'm getting my ass kicked, but it's nothing I can't handle. Also props to modern/dynamic controls because it seems like a lot more people are giving this game a go with how user friendly it is which is great.
It's the very best game, in the series. Both new and OG characters are lit, and every character was handled respectfully well. It has something for veterans, plus casual players can pick up stuff too. The music is always fantastic.
This is an unbelievable package - Fantastic tutorials, a legitimately fun single-player mode, and as much depth/character nuance as you desire via different control schemes and surprisingly complex core mechanics. This will legitimately go down in history as one of the greatest fighting games of all time, and possibly as the launching point of a new golden age of competitive fighting games. Astonishing effort from Capcom, who continue the turnaround to cement themselves as one of the best devs of the past decade.
I'm one of those "haven't really played since 1994" people, and didn't care about SF2 after 2 in arcades. I remember being at Family Arcade in LA and seeing that SF4 seemed to be the new hot arcade a long time ago, and all it did was make me go "oh, huh, guess they made a 4th." This game had me there at 9pm on June 1st, and I've been playing World Tour and Juri online and absolutely loving it. It's made me love the series and genre again, and I think it's already clear it's the best fighting game of all-time. You're not really seeing ANYONE - noobs, returners, pros, content creators - saying a bad thing about it, other than the Modern control debate.
Honestly, the character creator alone could get me to buy this if its ever on sale. I'm not very good at fighting games and don't really understand how they work, but seeing a game like this come out with so much tutorials and other control options makes me want to look more into it
You definitely should! The default Modern Controls makes it play like an action game similar to God of War or Spider-Man PS4. It's so easy to get into and have fun and there's a ton of single player content!
Street Fighter was so dominant in the early '90s. There was a year or two where Street Fighter was on the cover of every gaming magazine almost every month, without fail. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it since.
Honestly, this is a serious GOTY contender for me. It runs well, looks awesome, has a LOT of content and most importantly, it plays incredibly well. I know that Zelda will most likely be GOTY, but SF6 at least deserves an honorable mention.
Since the intro has always had that Street Fighter Alpha 3 like boom about it, I was waiting for Jirard to review this game as it feels right. Great review sir and I enjoyed the promo stuff you did for Capcom. Thanks for the vid Jirard :)
With all of the amount of positives I've been hearing about this from 2 of my friends I think it's safe to say that we need more fighting games to give us back some really good single player content that's enough to keep you invested while also giving the hardcore fans stuff that they can enjoy. Is this great balance between a solid single player content game with a good online for the competitive crowd is something that I feel fighting games have been missing recent. Here's hoping we get more of them with more single player content and not less single player content with just online a not good story mode and that's pretty much it.
@@SmoothAsUsual47 It better because I expect to see Tekken 8 give us back a lot of the cool content we used to have from the 3rd and 5th games. And I mean on release not non existent until several updates later.
Jirard, if a game has a roadmap to when everything will be there and it's not complete yet, then I don't think you have any reason to complete it either. Also, "modern controls" to me is code for "Mortal Kombat controls in everything but name".
As someone primarily interested in storytelling in games, fighting games have always been such a mirage for me: the character designs are so varied and incredible looking, and they look super fun, and the history and culture behind them is fascinating. The actual stories are locked behind mastery of most if not all of what can be an intimidating roster of characters and mechanics, and usually aren’t super engaging though Update: I got SF6. Fun so far. We'll see if it sticks. Watching The Dojo and really interesting and maybe helpful.
This entire game is a love letter to the characters and the series history! Plus the Modern Controls and World Tour make it very fun and accessible to finally jump in and enjoy the genre
I think my favorite part of this game is the master theme. It’s so good at teaching you new things and they decided to reflect that within the actual plot too. It doesn’t feel like some random nonsense tacked on at the end. It feels poetic.
As much as this sounds like it's trying to become more accessible, god damn is it hard to break into a fighting game for the first time. There's a whole lexicon of stuff I have no reference or clue about. Punish, counter, etc. I have no idea what these mean in the context of a fighting game, so it's still pretty rough. This might be the one I try though
Oh you'll definitely get the hang of it! The tutorials in Fighting Grounds do such a good job of making everything simple and easy to understand. Plus the whole World Tour Mode goes out of it's way to teach you fighting game fundamentals! Also: Punish means hitting someone right after you blocked their attack. Counter means your attack hitting someone right when they start their attack
The problem with fighting games is that you have to dedicate your life to them if you want to et any good. You NOT only have to learn your characters moves. You have to learn EVERY other characters moves to know what is safe on block, what gives frame advantage, etc. I just can't to commit to one game like that.
In this installment things are much more straightforward. You don't even have to master the combos of your OWN character, because just doing a few combos in right situations are fine. "Block safety" and "frame advantage" things are also very simplified, you won't get tricked so often. In SF6 the importance of understanding the basic rock-scissors-paper mechanics and 'predicting the enemy's thinkings' are the most important, more than ever.
@@Cuboctahedrone8612 Many actions in fighting games make rock-scissors-paper like circle. You can guess the opponent's next action with basic psychology, and counter them with right choices.
@@Cuboctahedrone8612 if they jump, anti air, if they projectile then cancel block or parry, if they're a grappler keep distance. If they're pressuring your block then drive reversal. If you're knocked down then do a DP or throw. Basic common sense stuffs
The passion for this goes through this game into this review. Never really played Street Fighter, but I am 100% sold on getting this product. Awesome review
I'm really interested in getting this. The biggest hold back for me is knowing just to keep the roster current I'll have to invest another 60 at some point. I know that's the norm for the genre. As someone who lives paycheck-to-paycheck that's the main thing that's kept me out of the genre. This having what seems to be a big single player mode is really what's pushed me into wanting this
The story mode is a decent size. That along with each character being very in-depth makes it worth imo. Also if you play it enough you'll be able to grind for the new characters for free.
Street fighter 5 had something like 30 dlc characters. The first character pack for sf6 is $30 for 4 characters. Prepare your wallets for $200 worth of dlc characters over the next few years….
I'm not much of a Street Fighter guy (more into Mortal Kombat), but I'm honestly intrigued by what Capcom has put together here. Especially all of the features designed for the people that aren't hardcore fighting game aficionados.
I'm more of an MK and Injustice fan, and have only ever dabbled in Marvel vs Capcom 3 back in the day, but this game from the very first reveal looked special. I've been so excited for it and have already put 20 hours in, and I'm addicted. The Classic controls are well worth using over Modern if you can. I've picked up learning Kimberley and Jamie, and they're so much fun to use. I've even spent a load of time in the battle hub just chatting and battling. This game is so good. I expected to like it, but I did not imagine I'd love it as much as I do. It's the most complete package, and I'll be playing it for months🥳
In regards to modern controls, it's a GODSEND for me. I injured myself a few years back and playing fighting games like I used to just isn't possible anymore. But with the new controls it takes a LOT of stress off my wrists so I can play for more than 15 min every two hours.
From a game series that's been heavily criticized for lack of single player contents (4, and 5 especially), it's truly surprising it took capcom this 1 game to turn it all around and now other fighting games need to catch up.
Other fighting games don’t need to catch up. Especially when some of them has been the pioneers of fighting game content has already done what SF6 has done.
@@thatoneguy1232 I appreciate that SC6 presented us a fascinating avatar creation system (which SF6 FAILED to catch up in certain aspect) and Guilty Gear series has the most fantastic storytelling, they are not ubiquitous in all fighting game franchises.
I was never really "into" fighting games, especially SF, but I knew of its legacy, and played as Ryu and Ken in Smash Bros for a while. And SF6 came out on my birthday, which is nice (still haven't bought it yet). I tried the demo when it came out... And yeah. I might need this game.
This World Tour Mode just pushed the needle forward in the fighting game genre .Now we're going to see all the other fighting games follow suit at some point. Maybe not this MK or Tekken.... But the next MK or Tekken?.... Guaranteed you're going to be able to create your own character or do something along the lines of Street fighter 6.

I especially love the Hip-Hop Vibe Goin' On in this game! The Voice Actors and Actresses are all Super Incredible and Remarkable here too!
Capcom really outdone themselves with this one. The last fighting game to go almost as far SF6 World Tour, was MK Deception's Konquest Mode (20 years difference).
Awesome video, fighting games are really something among videogames, I especially love the welcoming community that is still ready to completely destroy you as a newcomer
Been playing SF6 the entire weekend straight, and I have to say I haven't had this much fun with a fighting game since SF4. I've mainly been playing with some friends who have never touched the series, and with the Modern Controls we've had some pretty close matches. Even Ryu, who's generally fairly plain has a lot of cool things he can pull off (never get tired of bouncing my opponent off the wall into an uppercut).. It's never been a better time to get into the series, that's for certain.
Good that they took well the criticism of the previous game and made sure that this time the game had enough content for people playing single or the crowd not focused on esports. Way better than SFV at launch.
@JohnnyHammerSticks01 I just love how professional she is. I would to see her without her mask though. Like who is she without the intense fighting character
I have this idea, that fighting games are the best in groups of friends in the same room/arcade as it was a social event to meet, fight and watch others, noticing who is maining who, who plays what style, discussing it and having a laugh when something epic happened, this is no longer possible if you play online
I would argue it's possible, but in a different manner. I agree, it's always better if you can experience playing a game in person, but with my own busy schedule I can't always see the people I want in person. SF6 and other fighting games with rollback netcode allows you to have quality gameplay with excellent connection with your friends in other places, plus there are a lot of online groups/communities that run casuals and tournaments where you can discuss, hop on a call, and just play around. Once again, better in person but there are some great substitutes not only for Street Fighter but all sorts of games.
Don’t know about other games, but Mortal Kombat has had king of the hill modes in their games where you can either join a lobby with strangers or set up your own with friends. Everyone can watch who’s playing, everyone can talk to one another, you wait your turn to fight or you can go afk if you aren’t ready or just want to observe, and you can even practice while you wait. Modes like this probably does exist in other games as well so you can still get that similar feel
SF 6 is really a love letter to the genre. It took the ideas that were poorly executed in 5 such as the simplified controls and combos and built the modern controls for this crowd (I stuck with classic, I don’t care how bad I do, I crave the Street Fighter feel) The world tour mode is everything that a story mode should have been and not a copy of the boring MK one. The king has returned!
I've always been interested in fighting games. But for me, the biggest barrier to entry is the community. Most players are toxic and by far the biggest deterrent to the games access. They seem to hate newcomers yet whine that not enough people play these types of games. With all the praise that the new SF6 is getting, I'm hoping this allows new players a welcoming space to try out this genre*.
Thats an interesting perspective. I always felt the overall FGC is quite welcoming to new players. This is coming from someone who started playing traditional fighting games (I had some smash ultimate experience) about 2 years ago.
Honestly, I'm surprised but delighted that SF6 focused more on the user experience and single player content instead of Esports. And I say that as someone who loves playing fighting games competitivly, the weird service model in SF5 was super confusing.

Ive attempted to get into fighting games before but theyre just too complicated for me, so this looks actually really fun and approachable
That's the best part about the game, you don't need to be a pro already, you can pick up and understand as you go.
world tour and modern controls really makes it easier than ever to learn and have fun
I’m glad to see the game getting this kind of response. Fighting games in general have been trying to become more approachable for years, and SF6 in particular does a really good job of that.
don't need to be a pro to get into SF 6, that's why World Tour and modern control scheme is there
There's some games out there that have done mixing Fighter-like combat with single player experiences.
This man said discovery zone….the flashbacks I just had. Also so nice to see a shake up like this for the series
I really do think more games should have this kind of character customization. It started with XenoVerse, it's continued in Sonic Forces, there are probably many other examples I can't think of, but SF6 has definitely got me on board with it's story mode.
The Miitopia remake is hilarious
I think Soul Calibur did character creation first for fighting games and that's was almost 15+years.
You're funny if you think it started with Xenoverse.
@@modbz You're right, it's not the first.
It's just what I know the most, having spent over 1000 hours in 2.
@@TheRedCap30I still believe 3ds Miitopia was better because it randomly assigned Miis from online. Shriek and Waluigi being an angry couple by sheer luck and such
Just about to go pickup my copy, haven’t been this excited for a fighting game in a long while!
Glad you all seemed to have fun and hope you have fun and safe travels making your secret projects.
Fight me anytime I promise to give you reasons to not come back.

I'm not very good at street fighter, but it's always been my favorite fighting game series. I love the characters and world/lore in general. World Tour was absolute bliss for me.
I'm a fighting game novice, and I wish more of these games had robust single player modes like World Tour. It gives you a healthy amount of content to chip away at, and will make solo players feel like their money was well spent. The only other (non-Smash Bros) game I can recall seeing this sort of thing in is Granblue Fantasy Versus with it's RPG Mode.
the world tour is what made me buy it. I'm a soul calibur guy and the last 1 had an awesome single player campaign rpg experiance. I want it again so street fighter 6 world tour it is
PS whoa that Battle Hub is perfection
I love the art style. This might be the game that will bring me back to the franchise
With the worldwide success of DBFZ, Smash Ultimate, Guilty Gear, and now Street Fighter 6, it really feels like we've entered a new golden age of fighting games.
Here's to hoping Tekken 8 and MK1 can continue the momentum.

To me this has a sf3 vibe. Like capcom was trying to get this type acclaim for that game. I'm glad it's going to be something refreshing
They're definitely made it way easier and more fun to just jump in! Especially with the Modern Controls!
Can't wait til I buy this in a few days.. I want to make an MMA build with Luke, Ken, and Zangief's skills 🎉
I remember being at Family Arcade in LA and seeing that SF4 seemed to be the new hot arcade a long time ago, and all it did was make me go "oh, huh, guess they made a 4th."
This game had me there at 9pm on June 1st, and I've been playing World Tour and Juri online and absolutely loving it.
Get the demo from the Steam.
Street Fighter was so dominant in the early '90s. There was a year or two where Street Fighter was on the cover of every gaming magazine almost every month, without fail. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it since.
SF2 was the most played arcade game for 4 years in a row, it was crazy.
Capcom was Capgod in the 90s, they had so many hits like CvS 2, Vampire Savior and Mahvel 2 of cozrse
I'm very impressed with how this game turned out, Capcom is always dropping top quality titles.
Honestly, this is a serious GOTY contender for me. It runs well, looks awesome, has a LOT of content and most importantly, it plays incredibly well. I know that Zelda will most likely be GOTY, but SF6 at least deserves an honorable mention.
Love the Wrestling Bios shoutout dude
Since the intro has always had that Street Fighter Alpha 3 like boom about it, I was waiting for Jirard to review this game as it feels right. Great review sir and I enjoyed the promo stuff you did for Capcom. Thanks for the vid Jirard :)
My man just gave a shout out to Discovery zone That's what I'm talking about❤❤❤
Now THIS game is the prime example of what you call being revolutionary for it's genre
I’m glad the original costume’s returned I was worried when I booted the game up myself
I think this is going to change fighting games forever
The actual stories are locked behind mastery of most if not all of what can be an intimidating roster of characters and mechanics, and usually aren’t super engaging though
Update: I got SF6. Fun so far. We'll see if it sticks. Watching The Dojo and really interesting and maybe helpful.
This entire game is a love letter to the characters and the series history! Plus the Modern Controls and World Tour make it very fun and accessible to finally jump in and enjoy the genre
K...
King of Fighters takes the cake for confusing storytelling in fighting games, sit down Guilty Gear.
in recent years my fav street fighter was street fighter 4 on the 3DS because it was challenging but the control scheme was accessible.
Mortal kombat Armageddon vibes
I think my favorite part of this game is the master theme. It’s so good at teaching you new things and they decided to reflect that within the actual plot too. It doesn’t feel like some random nonsense tacked on at the end. It feels poetic.
just looking at SF6 puts a silly grin on my face, there's so much love put into it, so much meticulous detail
every time I see a fighting game I remember the first soul calibur graphics. It looked like 2 console generations ahead;)
The fact Ryu can text you already makes me want to try this game just to see what he says.
K...
@@kwj_nekko_6320 What is the basic rock-scissors-paper mechanics?
@@Cuboctahedrone8612 Many actions in fighting games make rock-scissors-paper like circle. You can guess the opponent's next action with basic psychology, and counter them with right choices.
@@kwj_nekko_6320 Can you give me some examples of the rock-scissors-paper like circle in SF6?
@@TwooGiz how do you get the new characters for free?
@@TwooGiz We've had no confirmation of anything like that for SF6, unlike 5 which eventually did allow that

Can anyone tell me what's on SF6's disc?
Curious if the whole World Tour, Arcade, & VS modes are actually on there for game preservation's sake.
I still love that intro.
the minigames are some "wax on, wax off" shit. You think you're just making a pizza when actually you're learning how to do special move inputs
Especially the bottle chopping minigame for charge characters
So basically world tour mode is a more sophisticated version of the story mode from mortal combat deception. I've been waiting for this since the ps2.
This video is the first thing that has actually made me consider giving a fighting game other than Smash a go.
Damn, i was literally thinking if there was a completionist episode this week and this popped up.
Love you jirard hope you are doing ok.
Blanka cant bite you.....but Marisas Punish counter can definitely be felt through the screen and my controller vibrating like an earthquake 😅
In regards to modern controls, it's a GODSEND for me. I injured myself a few years back and playing fighting games like I used to just isn't possible anymore. But with the new controls it takes a LOT of stress off my wrists so I can play for more than 15 min every two hours.
That's amazing to hear! Glad you're able to jump back in!

It took the ideas that were poorly executed in 5 such as the simplified controls and combos and built the modern controls for this crowd (I stuck with classic, I don’t care how bad I do, I crave the Street Fighter feel)
The world tour mode is everything that a story mode should have been and not a copy of the boring MK one.
The king has returned!
Thanks for posting this. Also first
I remember when you could not get on the cover of a video game magazine unless your name was Street Fighter Two. Six looks incredible.
As a stem disliker of fighting games, you are selling this game pretty hard and I'm loving it
