    is 小心 also means take care?

    • @ChinesePodTV
      @ChinesePodTV  5 років тому +3

      小心 would be closer to "be careful" than "take care". For example, someone might tell you to 小心 if you are taking some hot food out of the oven. Good question!

    Can 您多保重 or 请保重 be used to end an email to a former teacher I've known for several years? Or does it sound disrespectful?

    • @ChinesePodTV
      @ChinesePodTV  5 років тому +3

      It's not disrespectful but it may be a little strange. 请保重 is usually said if something bad has happened, for example if someone is sick or injured. You could say 祝您顺利 or 祝你愉快 instead, meaning wishing you the best.

    • @noahbyrd6080
      @noahbyrd6080 5 років тому +1

      East Side
      小心 is not a phrase to say upon ending a conversation/interaction. “小心” ”be careful” is used in the same way we would say “be careful” if you want to warm someone of a danger or someone almost trips, etc., you’d say 小心. “保重” would be a farewell like how we say “take care.” I wouldn’t conflate the two or use them interchangeably.

    When I watch this videos I always feel its all a little off.
    保重 is an expression that you can see when you are preparing for HSK3 for example, its definetly higher than HSK1 and possibly higher than HSK2. So instead its kind of weird to have 请 (HSK1) presented as new information, or having to hear the word several times like if we were just learning the basics. I would rather heard other uses of 保 for example, like what other things you can use that verb for.

    • @ChinesePodTV
      @ChinesePodTV  5 років тому +9

      Hi Santiago, thanks for sharing your thoughts on our choice of phrase. You're correct, 保重 is a high-level word (in fact, it is HSK level 6!). These videos are meant for beginners, so usually we go with lower-level words. However, we base our choice more off usefulness than off word difficulty. We thought that "take care" would be a practical word to teach as many learners take trips to China and form friendships with people that they will part with when returning home.
      Additionally, if we break down 保重,the two characters on their own are quite fundamental and common characters. Therefore, although 保重 is difficult, it is likely that learners will already be somewhat familiar with the component characters.
      That being said, as you pointed out, 请 is much easier than 保重。There is an unbalance here, and we will share your insightful comment with the team. Sincere feedback is always much appreciated and it helps guide us for future videos.

    How to say: please take care of you?

    • @ChinesePodTV
      @ChinesePodTV  5 років тому +1

      You could say 您多保重 nín duō bǎozhòng, which uses the respectful 您 instead of the common 你 nǐ for "you". This would mean something close to "please take care of yourself". You can also say 保重身体 bǎozhòng shēntǐ which means "take care of your health".
