There are so many times when I felt the field and saw the field and was one with everything just like this clip... and then I shanked it into the woods.
Agreed. Love this movie 😁 It's kind of over the top golf romanticism but with the cinematography, music score and great performances. It's "The Natural" for golfers.
It’s funny; this is definitely a Redford movie, all the way through. From the lines, to the subject matter and even the music. It’s like The Natural except for golf.
My best ever round was played on a day when I was playing with a guy I had never met and we got talking before we started the first and we had the most interesting discussion I have ever had with another man that it was literally not until the 18th hole that I added the scores and found I had played my best game ever, as had he apparently. We were so engrossed in our discussion that we just played golf with no worries of what was going to happen to the shot we were playing.
I've been there too, except for me, on the 15th hole someone said I was playing very well and suddenly I realized I was. I won't say I collapsed after that but I did become aware that I was playing golf and I became mortal again.
That is relevant to one of the "Bagger" lines from elsewhere in the movie. Misquoted, you have to get your head out of the way and let your hands find the perfect shot.
As a caddy that snag of the club and shrugging off the question are so true. Never let your golfer out of that mindset, dont let them think after they got it.
Bobby Jones! Jack calls him his idol! When the man who has the greatest career of all time tells u a golfer is his idol, he must have been one of greatest of all time
I wonder did anyone ever tell Redford that the golf course in those days looked nothing like the way he portrayed it in the movie with the modern irrigation cutting fertilizer and all that. Golf courses in those days could be best described as goat farms.
this makes me want to go golf! It's been a while. Sometimes you just have those special rounds where you aren't thinking about anything you just go up to the ball and hit it. Always had my best rounds that way
One of the better films regarding golf. Years ago when i played their were times spent in the zone. At that time I was unawhere of my fellow competitors only saw the ball fly off my club and saw the ball roll into the cup. Best competive round was a 68 and to this date can remember ever shot and putt. Now I only play for that one good shot and am satisfied.
Bobby fkin Jones.... I played with the best.... and I drew.... Now here I am... sitting in this bunker along with all the other hackers who forgot the cardinal fking rule... always leave yourself outs... and all the other rounders quotes that would work well here...
I played golf recreationally for about 20+ years. That was over 40 years ago. I have no idea what this scene means, or what this is about. I never felt in a zone or could “see the field”. The only thing I was ever “one with” was the pond, the creek, the woods, the neighboring farm, the sand, the un-mowed grass, the fairway next to me or the out-of-bounds stakes. One of the best days of my life was when I put my bag away forever.
It’s an analogy of how Junah should approach life. Especially with his demons he’s battling from the war. The four rounds of golf are an analogy of his life playing out. Ups and downs, good times and bad. Good choices and bad ones. Brilliantly written movie
@@jimnorris715 agree with the analogy but for us that have ever played golf there is something that can happen with concentration, balance and good shots that just feels very right. Golf is very much of a game of feel and the more you don't over think it (which is hard to do) the better you play. I don't understand the harsh critics of this movie and scene...I loved it and yes I play golf.
Wonder if anyone that comments on this film actually knows what the film is about!!! Great film about how life and it's ups and downs Not just about golf!!! And a fantastic soundtrack
I was a Caddy for 25 years. I’ll tell you this, you can make that nice ass speech to a hell of a lot of players and have them looking all forlorn at the next shot, excited to be a different player… Chances are … even if they’re supposedly a “10 handicap” they’re still not going to break 90 on their best day if they actually count all those strokes, take no mulligans, don’t improve their lie and put everything into the hole. Most people don’t come close to counting what they actually shoot in a round golf, and no matter what speech they get, if they’re a hack…they’re a hack.
I quit playing golf when I finally admitted I sucked. I was one of Bobby Jones’ pallbearers. I worked for the funeral home while in college. Bobby’s palls we’re too old to carry the casket so we did it for $5. Before the Downtown Connector - I-75 & 85 - the funeral home would call the Georgia Tech frats looking for pallbearers. Guys hoping to make $5, would race up the hill while putting on their suits in hopes of being in the first six
I play and see people bend the rules all the time... It doesn't bother me much. The handicap system reels them in all the same.. They have to keep cheating !
I love this scene..notice how fast Bobby jones eyes lock in after laughing with the guys…that’s focus..I’m a football guy and the only two players I’ve ever seen with that look is Tom Brady and joe Montana…like they’re looking through the defense…seeing nothing but the field
Everything is not one. I am the dragon that takes all the best shots from the entire field, standing as the flag stands, always remaining naturally holy.
Did he just say it’s 445 yards long and it’s going to take him 12 strokes to get there?!?! Was his plan to chip it all the way down there? 8 over on a par 4 is impressive indeed.
Ok, this is some deep shiz I don't fully understand, but in my sixteen years of golfing, there have been moments when I have stood over the ball and it felt like I wasn't in my body, but I just KNEW that my setup was perfect and that my swing was going to be perfect and I would stripe the ball into the middle of the fairway....and I did. Maybe thats what they call being in the "zone", idk. Make of this what you will.
And then I discovered disc golf, gave my clubs away and never played ball golf again. I guess playing something you are better at gives you confidence.
I played golf with Joel Gretsch (who played Bobby Jones) years ago, he actually is a solid golfer, so does this mean I played golf with "Bobby Jones"? I think so
Golf is the most frustrating game you will ever play, because when you mess up there is no one else to blame. But when you get a shot right it's pretty sweet. Kinda like life.
There are so many times when I felt the field and saw the field and was one with everything just like this clip... and then I shanked it into the woods.
Laughing too hard. Me too.
Still had fun.
😂😂
...and there is that one authentic shot that chose you...lol
Sounds familiar.
LOL
Bobby Jones was the purest. No one else compares
How can you not want to play golf after watching this video!😃. This is a great movie a classic.
Want to yes making contact with ball is my problem
The first time I saw this movie, this scene was playing. I was mesmerized.
Bobby Jones, smoothest damn swing I've ever seen.
The best golf movie ever in my opinion
Excellent movie!!!!The best I have ever seen from Hollywood! Love the music, the cinematography and Matt Damon!!!Beautiful movie!☆☆☆☆
Fantastic cinematography.....a masterclass in film making
Agreed. Love this movie 😁 It's kind of over the top golf romanticism but with the cinematography, music score and great performances. It's "The Natural" for golfers.
There’s a life lesson in that scene…
One of the best parts of the movie........
I need a caddie like that when I play. I might be able to birdie that damned windmill.
The music scoring for this scene is superb, Robert Redford is a wonderful storyteller.
It’s funny; this is definitely a Redford movie, all the way through. From the lines, to the subject matter and even the music. It’s like The Natural except for golf.
Redford hated working on this film in South Carolina
The humidity & No See Ums are murder there.. but a wonderful interpretation of the book.
Such a fantastic film. Loved it.
One of my all-time favorite golf movies and that scene is epic! Second would be Tin Cup.🤙
So that's why Tour pro's have caddy's, to help them see the field. Great scene and movie.
Both movies Bagger Vance & Genius of Bobby Jones vs Field of Dreams. Great movies about life
The bobby Jones actor has the best movie golf swing I've ever seen, you can tell Matt Damon probably didn't play much Golf before this movie.
He’s athletically built perfect for golf
Outstanding point 👉
Plus Bobby Jones movie music score James Horner awesome 👌
Damon had only played for a month before film started. Joel is a scratch golfer.
One of my favorite movies of all time, who would have thought Will Smith would have made a great angel?!
I would have thought that ... just not in the middle of Hancock! That was a mistake.
@@Grubnar NO DOUBT!!! I don't think Hancock would have been a good caddy!

The skull is my shot. We found each other, all right.
I was waiting for Bagger to punch someone.
God I miss you Dad

@Fred Wills that's cool
Charlize Theron is so incredible beautiful in this movie!
Incredible moment
Will proved he knows all about the hands. and the field,, on Rocks face.
BEST FILM ENDING EVER!!!
Ain't nothin that could make me pick up that crooked stick again.
Great Video! Love it!
Back when Hollywood actually told stories.
Wonderful 🙏

how could you ever abandon golf?
I could never find the field. I found woods, tall grass, and water but never the field. 😅
There's no way I can get my hands that far above my head on the backswing.
Good advices from Deadshot ;)
Best scene in any movie!! However, I still haven’t found the field…
I found a tree just off the field!
And that is how slow play became a problem ;-)

Pshhhhh, cupped wrist at the top, big slice!
You saw that too. I'm frequently guilty of that same crime.
I’ve only ever golfed against myself.
Kiawah Island Ocean Course was where that last scene was filmed, Bagger walking off. They said which hole but I can't remember
Forget the three iron, I was hoping he would bring out the Slap!
This is what golf is.
As happy as a pure shot.
So applicable to baseball. Your hands is wiser than your head’s ever gonna be. Nothing like being in the zone in any sport.

No wonder rounds take so long
He forgot the tee. What a crime!! 🙂
immediately after this shot the whole group was put on the clock.

Bagger is talking about our relationship with God.
You are correct sir.

He's referring that he is 12 strokes behind Jones and Hagen at that point in the round.
A movie about hitting a ball.
That ain't it

I wish Will Smith thought that so called soul mate was a field ...🤣
Hahaha, I hear ya champ! Every fng game 😂
just Grip it & Rip it.
Jones' swing is as iconic as he is.
I would've thought they would have spent more time making sure it looked right.
Sadly, they did not.
I don’t remember Jones being that “handsome” either lol
Best swing ever, no discussion.
Everyone fined for slow play.
This is philosophy
I hate it when movies become philosophical about sports. 🙄
Also, a caddie not giving the player his club? 😬
I’m surprised that Will didn’t slap Walter Hagen. “Keep my players name outch yo mouth”
And then I discovered disc golf, gave my clubs away and never played ball golf again. I guess playing something you are better at gives you confidence.
I'd say the opposite, quitting suggests you've no confidence in your own ability to be better at something that takes effort.
