I have the orange dialed model and it's one of the best values in my collection. Doesn't handwind but not a huge deal for me. It's big and bold with the orange but some days I feel like having something substantial on my wrist.

Doing things backward. I just bought the green bezel watch from you, THEN found this video. I made a good choice, though. Watch looks even better than I'd hoped--especially the bracelet which I'd hoped to swap out for jubilee. Seeing it on video, it's clear the jubilee would not work aesthetically on this baby. Looking forward to receiving it!
Received my Mako XL with the lume dial today from Long Islamd Watch. Absolutly love it! Definatly a keeper in my collection which is more than i can say for the Mako 2!
I love my green bezel Mako XL. I purchased it at the same time as a Seiko turtle PADI Pepsi arpa21 and 16613 SS TT Rolex sub.. The Mako has been hogging a majority of the wrist time. I think it's fantastic and very comfortable to wear. I use the bezel all day long and I like the feel of it. It's very practical. I also looks extremely handsome. I get more complements than any watch I own. I bought it from you guys. The price is extremely good. I've been trying to tell non watch people to buy one. It's maybe my favorite watch out, currently, besides the new blue Tudor Pelagos but that's a story for another time.

While hacking and hand winding might not be as important and they are made out to be, they are both very nice features and Orient has the movement in use in the Mako and Ray now. It would be in their best interest to update the Mako XL to the newer movement.

I wear my green bezel Mako XL with a blue, white, green, white, then blue NATO and really helps to refine that green. It’s by far my favorite every day watch, It’s been hit by a machine that weights around 2, maybe 3, tons and it still runs +/-7 seconds a day. Truly wonderdul

Good job by Orient. Making an XL version and having the standard version in 41mm. Other brands, Citizen as an example, seem to make every dive watch in their modern line-up around 45mm, and that's it.
If I could be honest here and I say this with no disrespect, Whenever you were in front of the wall setting I don't know if it was the lighting or your skin complexion but you kinda of blending in like camouflage lol.
I wish the day button is a date button with a screw lock. It would've been so easy to advance the date to the first day of the month, for the months that doesn't have the 31st day. But the Blue Mako XL is what I wear to work. Not only is it a beautiful watch, it is affordable. So you're not going to be too worried if it gets banged up. Initially it was measuring time at an average of +9 seconds per day, but I'm currently regulating it over the week. If the gen 2 comes out, I'll probably get it, I'm sure my wife would not be happy, but sleeping on the couch for a week is worth it. 🤣
I I have the blue dial version, and it's what I wear to work, rocking it with a navy blue and white NATO strap. i already have several complements on it. I also have an Orient black Ray and a Seiko Blue Turtle, but the Blue Mako XL had way more wrist time than the other two. 🙂
I have two Mako XLs in different colours that I brought in London a couple of years ago. . They are amazing timepieces for the money. The movements on both are accurate to within 10 seconds a day which I think is exceptional at this price point. They are also very well constructed and look great despite taking a pounding as my nominated beater watches. My only issue is the bezels, which are both badly scratched. Near on impossible to get a factory replacements or any third party ones that people can attest to working. Maybe its the larger dial size thats the reason for this, but Its a real shame I don't prescribe to the idea that a watch with scratches has "character". To me scratches on any watch face or dial it makes them look old and slightly tacky
I'd like to see these step up to Gen 2 as a replacement for Seiko SKX's... since that design is dated, but still a solid watch... I think Seiko is trying to pull away from the SKX's but it has such a cult following that it is hard to replace with higher price point Prospex watches. Knock an inch or 2 off the thing.
Never understood why they changed it to "Mako"... their regular Mako had quadrant arabics. Would it not have made more sense to call this a Ray XL (as it had applied indices) or something else entirely. Still, a handsome watch, even with the day/date.

My Orient - this same model - has a little bit lighter black color of the face (black goes to dark grey in strong light) compare to a bezel black color.

Mark one question (i know it is not related to the video) do you think that the seiko samurai would fit a 6,22 inch wrist (its Flat). I have been looking for a dive watch for about 400$ the skx is not realy mine type and so isn't the ray or mako,(i would like an iso dive watch not a steinhart or something like that). I've got my first few automatic watches this year, and I must admit I get nervous every time I go to wear one that has stopped and I have to reset the time and day/date. I'm afraid I'm going to do something wrong with the crown. I had a luminox that was a quartz and the crown stem broke somehow. With my first Seiko I was concerned because moving the crown forward advanced the time, then I noticed that it had to turn in the opposite direction to set the date. For some reason I think that the crown is supposed to spin in one direction only and that if I go in the opposite direction I might damage the movement. argh
There can be differences from model to model. Check your corresponding manual for the initial details but youll get the hang soon. Seiko and Orient are great watches to get familiar w mechanical watches.
Agreed. One of three Orients in my box and i love it. I kinda wish i had an excuse to pick up the lume dial variant or the orange bezel. Love my green one tho..reminds me of a certain coffee chain logo.
I ordered the Ray, and it's absolutely beautiful. But with 8 inch wrists it is just a tad too small for my taste. I wish Orient made a Ray XL, but I think the Mako XL will look great.

Long Island Watch I bought the Blue Mako 2 Pepsi from you when you posted the video that you had them in stock and on sale. I've worn it a few times but not at work. I wear my orange SKX011 daily (my first purchase from you), along with my Casio Rangeman. (Yeah, I wear two of them. Ha ha.) I use the timers on both of them at work. I'd wear two SKX's but I like having the barometer available to me at a moment's notice since I'm outside and drive for hours each day. I'm getting itchy for another Long Island Watch purchase again. It might be another Orient, maybe a Ray 2 this time. It's so hard deciding on a color. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the Ray 2 have a little better lume than the Mako 2?

It will be close. The lugs are squat on it, so it wears pretty small. On my 6.75 it looks OK.

The bezel on the XL is a bit awkward I'll admit.
Google it, there have been lume dials with other color bezels.

It might be another Orient, maybe a Ray 2 this time. It's so hard deciding on a color. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the Ray 2 have a little better lume than the Mako 2?

The one with full lume after 15 minutes in the dark loses contrast between the dial and indicators. So , it is good only as lighter
It should not have lume on the indicators or use a different color on those
There is no lume on the indicators. The contrast between lume and no lume IS maximum contrast. What are you talking about?
