The lead singer was Freddie Mercury. Mercury died in 1991 at age 45 due to complications from AIDS. He confirmed the day before his death that he had contracted the disease, having been diagnosed in 1987. Gone but NEVER FORGOTTEN

Please to more Queen, live performances whenever possible. Must see as well as hear to appreciate their great talents and stage presence. My favorites to watch are Somebody To Love, 1981 live at Montreal, You Take My Breath Away, live at Hyde Park 1976. There are many other examples of the range of their talents. Enjoy!

I'm close to 50, and i grew up to this song. So I've heard it over 52,000 times.
    It STILL gets me!
I recommend the song that put them on the map. "Killer Queen". The voice and the guitar!
    And the lyrics!

Michael was a HUGE Freddie Mercury fan. When Queen were playing in the U.S., Michael would come to their shows & hang out with them backstage. I think that Michael got a lot of ideas from observing Freddie: The glove on one hand (Freddie in the 1970s); a military look (Freddie during the 1986 Miracle tour); the power you could have over a huge audience, utilizing something like a pause for dramatic effect. There's a GREAT studio recording on UA-cam of the duet that Michael/Freddie were working on together "State Of Shock" (Sadly, it was never officially released on a record; it's REALLY good!) There's also some nice little interview bits on UA-cam where Freddie talks about Michael. AND, there's a really cool video uploaded on someone's UA-cam channel (I'll try to find it) where they tried an experiment: They took Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" audio & overlaid it on top of Michael's "Thriller" video (instead of the Thriller soundtrack)… and it's an EXACT match! Michael/all the zombies are dancing to Another One Bites The Dust as if it were planned that way, the entire song fits beat-for-beat.

You should watch the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody...A treat for the ears. Bo Rap is three songs in one and Freddie meshed them together to make this masterpiece...He was a musical genius...John deacon is on bass...awesome bassist and so chilled out. he was studying electrical engineering. Roger Taylor is on drums...a freaking animal who was going to be a dentist and Dr Brian May is on guitar...arguably one of the best guitarists in the world. He is also an astrophysicist. He was just as incredible live...if not more so. if you haven't already, check out their set at Live Aid...Wembley doesn't have a roof but if it did, they would've blown it all the way off. As it's been said before, hardly anyone in the 70,000 strong crowd there that day was a Queen fan, (as they were the last to be booked and no one knew about it), yet by the time they left EVERYBODY was a Queen fan. So greatly missed Freddie.

I can't believe you never heard Bohemian Rhapsody before!
Queen is a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) and John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock.

Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) was Parsi (indian-persian), a son of immigrants, born in Zanzibar, and a naturalized UK citizen. He never had his teeth fixed, even if they made him very self-conscious, but he feared it would impact his voice... which, btw went from a low F2 to a soprano high F6 with a falsetto, with his F5 tenor being his strongest high note. While that is certainly not the widest range, his was very clear and unforced with a vibrato that few manage to get, and it sounded much wider than that of many other voice talents.
Queen was a phenomenon that still holds up today after more than 40 years.

I was really moved by the lyrics in the beginning when he played the piano. Because it reminded me of the beautiful song In the ghetto. About a young man who goes down a bad path in life which ends in death and with the mother being grief stricken. So sad! Listen to the words in the beginning of this with the piano playing. He's singing about a young man like that! Same type of thing as In the Ghetto.

Freddie Mercury, the singer, did a number of songs with MJ. All haven't been released. Story goes, Freddie went to MJ's recording studio and recorded, but never finished. As "Rumor" has it, Freddie called his manager Miami (Jim Beach), and told him to arrange to get him out of there because, it was one thing that MJ's Chimp, I forget his name, was there, but when the Llama was in the recording studio, Freddie couldn't take it. Tidbit: MJ convinced Queen to release "Another One Bites The Dust" as a single. Which they did and opened the doors to a "Queen Disco Album, 'Hot Space', which all but sealed their fate with American Fans. The Bass Player John and Freddie wanted to make the album. The Drummer Roger and Guitarist Brian were against the album and hated it. They lost US (Americans) for a while. I happened to like SOME of that album.

I was into Jazz and soul. As I got older I began broadening my horizons. You young folks are doing it early. That's good. Keep up with shit going on around you. Know your history. This song was a technical feat in it's time and put what could be done with the equipment of the time to the test. It wasn't like it is today where something could be spliced over and over without destroying what you made if something wasn't done right it could ruin the whole song. I can see the MJ Freddie Mercury parallels both fantastically talented singers with just an incredible stage presence they owned the stages they graced.

There is a ton of info out there on Queen if you want it. These are 4 highly educated, highly motivated and talented young men. They are a British group, and the two remaining members are touring with Adam Lambert right now. Sadly Freddie Mercury died of complications from AIDS in 1991. That guitar solo is Brian May who has a Ph.D. In astrophysics! This so innovative yet Freddie went to his grave with what this is about. What a great band! Learn more and dive into their HUGE catalog of music, both recorded and live. You can’t categorize them into one genre.

You've most likely heard bits of this in the movies Wayne's world or Suicide Squad. Maybe you've heard a lot of their songs, but didn't recognize it was Queen. They wrote tons of hits such as We will rock you, We are the champions, Don't stop me now, Another one bites the dust, Under pressure (duet with David Bowie), Somebody to love, Killer Queen, One Vision, Radio Gaga, Crazy little thing called love, etc. The best part of Queen is they don't have just one genre, they don't mean one thing: they still are limitless, timeless, cross genres and even now their music is a breath of air because of their pure genius talent. Also, in case your wondering, the band rarely if ever told people what their songs were about, they rather let the individuals interpret it for themselves. That being said, a popular interpretation of the "mama just killed a man" part of Bohemian Rhapsody is Freddie Mercury coming out as gay and that his old straight self is dead, thats just one of them. Whatever kinds of music you like, they will have done it. I recommend you check out seven seas of rye or Stone cold crazy, both live at the rainbow or either Dragon Attack or Somebody to love both live at Montreal etc. Your in for a crazy ride, enjoy!

Freddie and Michael recorded a song too by the way. Freddie admired Michael. And incidentally, this song was Freddie's coming out of the closet to the world. "just killed a man" is a reference to him laying to rest his old self and persona that everyone had grown to know publicly and was now EMBRACING what he had fought with for years....being homosexual. The song is honestly MORE BEAUTIFUL once you realize this. This also explains all the "drama" in the song, it's supposed to be him fighting with his inner demons and conscience.
Freddie was a genius and a pure vocalist! Wonderful singer.

@@WARXXS Lord, the list is endless, I would do Somebody to Love live in Montreal, White Queen live Hammersmith Odeon, just to start. His live shows are unbelievable. Of course, I'm partial. Been listening to Queen since the beginning.

Brian May is the guitarist. I heard you say you liked the solo. He still plays with Queen
They just finished playing in Australia to help raise money for that country.

It doesn't surprise me that you see Michael Jackson. Greats follow the greats, after all. Freddie (lead) was a huge fan of Elvis and actually worked with MJ on one or two songs before he passed in 91. Vocals, showmanship, stage presence, they all 3 had it in spades.

Yeah. I'll agree with you on that. Freedy Mercury (Queen) and Michael Jackson can both be mentioned in the same sentence.

Funny you should say that Freddie's aura reminds you of Michael Jackson, because Michael Jackson was a huge fan of QUEEN, especially Freddie, and did some collaborations together before Freddie passed away........ *GREAT REACTION*

Queen the band and Freddie Mercury lead singer performer Entertainer visionary they will live on forever Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991 got what's a band Queen in the early 70s and needless to say outstanding outstanding outstanding singer performer theatrical singer. And yes him and Michael Jackson were friends. They were going to make a few tracks together which they did but Michael Jackson thought he was a little too hard and The Rock and didn't care for it so it never got on vinyl. Freddie Mercury is an idol and will live on as that you will hear his music to this day 28 years after he passed away and the band Queen is still performing two of the original band members to this day only their lead singer is Adam Lambert. Long Live Queen and I love you Freddie Mercury forever can't say enough good things about him
