    So happy you did this video! I'm really trying to figure out what mods void the factory warranty on a regular transit and other vans. Is this the reason they added the factory dual alternators? What other mods to a regular van void the factory warranty? What do you think is a good price for the Trail? Do you think we will only get MSRP at this point?

    • @AVCRIG
      @AVCRIG  Рік тому +1

      I think prices will be silly till the chip and parts situations smooth themselves out. There will be a return to normalcy eventually. At this rate Ford can’t build them fast enough so why not keep raising prices. It’s unfortunate for us(all of us consumers) but the only thing to do is wait.
      As far as warranty goes that’s a tricky one. When connecting to the Ford systems we just stick to the sanctioned connection points and build our own systems in the back. Drivetrain is another story. Probably best to ask a lift manufacturer. I heard that going over 245/75/16 could void warranty on something but I think it may have just been people talking out their 🍑

    What $ value would you say the wheels, rims, lift and side steps add?
    Hoping to hear the fan has engineered metal support and gasketing.
    They added "intelligent" to AWD, maybe just new modes.
    Do you order the auxiliary fuel line extension for gas furnace and/or water heater, or the heater prep option for connecting a hot water tank?

    • @AVCRIG
      @AVCRIG  Рік тому +2

      That’s a tough question. Wheels are about 350 apiece, tires 185. It’s been a couple years since I’ve done a lift but I think they were about $1800 depending on who’s lift and what details you select. If you add running boards and installation for it all I’d guess about $6000. I think if you want all the options in the trail edition (it’s loaded with stuff) then its worth it. If you added all the options to a cargo then went and got a lift tires and runners you’d be about the same.

    • @YT-MY
      @YT-MY Рік тому +1

      @AVC RIG the only feature I would nix is the inverter since it seems to be low spec. I imagine it can be useful while driving to power a laptop, recharge a portable power bank, or heat some water. Limitation is if it shuts off with the engine and only 400W.
      The advantage of the Trail package doesn't seem to be purchase price but being factory it saves time, carries warranty, dealer service/parts, Ford engineered, insurance coverage and probably resale value.
      Also has purposeful trim/wheel liners, correct clearances, driveline compatibility, and electronic systems tuned (AWD, speedometer and safety systems).

  • @scottbrown7415
    @scottbrown7415 Рік тому +5

    The 400 watt inverter is not particularly impressive. 3000 watt pure sine wave with room for additional would be awesome. If ford really wanted to blow peoples minds, they would develop or source a push up roof option behind the cab area for the mid roof version of Transit. Lifting a vehicle creates a problem When trail driving into many more remote areas. A way to get that headroom back once parked at the camp site would greatly increase the desirability of the mid roof version.. Otherwise, the customer is just camping out of a slightly more comfortable version of the previous Econoline.

    • @AVCRIG

      I have a feeling the big RV manufacturers will develop something around the platform. I still think independent builders (like AVC) will continue to be more innovative and push the interior options.

    Should have added this to my comment yesterday but the one thing Ford could have done mechanically that would have made more difference than anything from a DIY/aftermarket versus OEM standpoint is relocated the rear shock mounts. Sure they can be trimmed or relocated aftermarket but for Ford to have provided an OEM solution would have been a lot better than including a tow hitch which anyone could do. The shock mounts aren't as much trouble off road as they look like they would be but among the potential van life or adventure van crowd perception is reality. They see the low hanging fruit and assume it will be an issue. To revise this would give a better perception and allow Ford to claim a 1" increase in ground clearance as they do sit approximately 1" lower than the rear diff.

      If you want the best off road capable van I would get a Quigley 4x4 transit. The trail version is a good start in a factory available package. I think half of the trail edition stuff is more looks than function, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s good to understand what you’re really getting.

    My take, fellow upfitters, the TRAIL is not a Sprinter killer or promaster KILLER, Not yet :
    1-Not redesign involved
    2-Marketing cosmetic red lipstick...still a cargo van
    We need a true redesign oem camper van ready for upfitters:
    1-better suspension oem, like liquid springs in the back for many needs and desires such as , better departur angle when needed on the spot etc.
    2-AC ducted to the back running from the engine(not a one ton mini split), same with floor heating system, get the most of that powerfull engine. Or a total redesign of HVAC system optimized for upfitterd of class B+.
    2-side flares fittings ready to install after market flares.
    3-the current interior structure is optimized for cargo missions. Hence, redesign interior structure (at least 10 different types and options for upfitters) to optimize installation ...total redesign of interior cealing structure for drop down accesories such as Showers, drapes, kitchens, tables, storage, beds etc. Redesign the floor interior and exterior for things like, oem shower trays, water tanks(plural) that could fit in every unusable hidden space.
    4-computer module hacking access to make the AWD more off-roaf capable such as sustainable silp diff. etc
    5-detachable or option not to order the obsolete ,2000 year old design, backdoors (cargo doors not design for upfitters) to install our own back design set up, just imagine....Jesus, ala MadMax style designs back there.
    5-detachable access pannels on the side for access to all, all utilities(a must have for upfitters). The engine has an access panel, i think.
    6-Option of hybrid pronto
    7-make the Transit trail lighter by 750 kilos.
    8- 100 different options
    -Ford, if i may suggest, make a van design for upfitters...to have a true canvas to work on.
    All these for a price of 35k msrp, then u will have a true Sprinter and Promaster Killer.
