Ren rabbit hole initiated!!
The problem is that once you go down it, you turn into the mad hatter 😂❤
Exactly where I’m going. A little nervous, but excited.
@@anthonyperrello9540 whatever you do dont follow the giant white rabbit .. or do its up to you
She's three months in already. Love that it was in a livestream as well.
Once you go down the rabbit hole you will not return
I love how people think the first "yodel" is kinda weird, but then they get down with the one at the end.
I've watched this about 50 times and it still hits me like a train. **sobs**
It gets better after about 100.
@@Pejt lol, thanks
Same here @Carol - Pejt says it gets better after 100 views, lol.
~For some of us who may suffer from mental issues ourselves it's so relatable that it keeps hitting like a truck. And opens our eyes that we are far from unique with our problems.
fifty times lol noob . i reckon i have seen ALL reactors of this ALWAYS hits .
'Hi Ren' is the best 9 minute therapy session ever!
he is exactly that , this should be played in hospital waiting rooms
Your reaction to this is simply beautiful and so kind and gentle to the subject matter, this is such an amazing performance. His Chalk outines LIVE with Chinchilla is stunning!
Watched that for the first time today. Absolute chills. No crying though, never crying. I did sweat from my eyeballs a bit, however.
Same, I think it's the visuals, I'm not crying at rens songs it's just my eyes get so hot watching that water appears on my face 🤔
Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently his contract with Sony was dissolved.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.
Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. Ren has exceeded his initial goal. However, his goal was very conservative and did not reflect the added costs of unforeseen surgical procedures, and treatment for additional health issues such as MCAD. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity
Thx for the info., this kid is a genius!
Hi Jens
And there he is to save the day
@@lillyvanpug Lol.
It doesn’t matter how many times I watch the video to this song. It’s still such a powerful gut punch every single time.
One of the most exquisite pieces of music ever written
Absolutely
When he stood up and said the word ”HOPE” and when he talked about the clock pendulum swinging from the light to dark are the two most powerful things I’ve heard in a song for a very long time! WOW! It gets better every time you listen to it. Great song and reaction!
She is actually the first reactor I've seen that seem to be moved when he says hope. To me it was the most powerful part of the performance.
I hope you get to the trilogy of Jenny and Screech next! Thanks for finding the genuine first reaction and congrats on the sponsor!
Stages of watching Hi Ren:
This looks creepy
Guitar sounds nice
Oh, he’s singing
Will the whole song be like this?
Here’s the beat
Ok, he’s rapping now
This guy is scary
Now he seems nice
Oh, I see what he’s doing
This is interesting
This is intense
The mean guy is a jerk
This is INTENSE
Make it stop
I haven’t blinked or taken a breath in 2 minutes
Go Ren!
YES!
OOO-OO-OO-OO-OO-..
I need some time to be still
How is this so accurate 😂
I just found about Ren and Hi Ren like a week ago. I am 53, in recovery and sober for 13 years, and just so in awe of this breakdown of the soul learning how to survive in the midst of our chaotic journey called life. I listen to this daily, and it brings me to tears, each time remembering and appreciating my journey and discovering how to navigate my dance, as he so aptly describes it. I'm very excited to watch and hear your reaction to this beautiful soul awakening.
How's it going mate. You been lucky. Let us know
We (somewhat morbidly) learn so much from cadavers-people we literally open up to see what went on inside. This is a virtual autopsy of sorts, that the patient is doing on himself while still alive. He’s opening himself wide for others to inspect and comment and learn on. That’s pretty damn brave IMO. And a gift.
A piece of amazing performance art! Great reaction Britt!
He is a true artistic genius!
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole! You'll love it! 🎶🔥🙏🏼💖
"Such a courageous gift... " A very apt and overlooked observation there, Britt.
I saw someone else describe it perfect. He basically wrote and performed a mini Opera. He really takes you on a journey through a story. It's really well done.
Much respect for the one and done reaction morality.
Thanks for digging this out.
Would love to see more of your reactions to his library of poetry.
I've been waiting for weeks for you to get this......and I guess I missed it the first time 😞 Looking forward to your reaction to this (IMO) masterpiece commentary on the human condition. Excited to be here live-ish for it too!
🥰
My Oh My. This will be interesting. Looking forward to it, Britt. Gonna miss the live though. Family gathering. TC.
Yes, finally ❤❤😊
been obsessed with music for around 35 years and sometimes I get in this rut where I think I've heard everything worth hearing and that there's really nothing new under the sun and then I found Ren and all those jaded thoughts were immediately reset.
Wow!! Fantastic review Britt!!
In my humble opinion, having worked in mental health fir a few decades, this is the most eloquent mental health education I have ever encountered.
Ren is like a modern messiah!!
🙏
You have so many videos (this is going to be my next rabbit hole cause i love your breakdowns & your emotions!!) It took me a while to find this & you didn't disappoint!! Once again, YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
THANK YOU for doing this & sharing with us! 💐
2 for 2! One of the best reactions I’ve seen to Hi Ren. Your channel is a joy to watch and listen to. Love everything about it. Thank you! ☮️♥️
If you had a podcast, I would 100% listen to it. I can’t really explain it but your pleasant voice combined with, of course, the articulate nature of what you are saying… combined with the emotive eyes and facial expressions is simply top notch.
Not that I necessarily dislike reacters with intense enthusiasm but it can be sooooo jarring to have someone screech or shout into your ears. But you are pleasant and comfortable to listen to WITHOUT lacking enthusiasm. Idk… again, I don’t know how to explain it well but… thank you. Great format. ☮️♥️
Courageous Gift. Well said. Thank You. ❤
this brother rings different, speaks to us all
Ren is a modern day bard a once in a generation talent and a musical Swiss army knife lol enjoy the ride
Excellent reaction. Welcome to Ren! He is a healthy force. There is also the band "The Big Push". His music there is great, too. They are mainly buskers. (Street corner performers).
This is just art..... not music but the van gough of our time in music form..... so good
The first time I heard this it blow my mind, firstly just how talented he is on guitar, how amazing his voice is especially as he sings in different styles and just his incredible song writing. The monologue at the end was also just incredible.
Thank you for taking the time to share this original reaction. I've seen "Hi, Ren" countless times, but enjoy watching reactors when they first hear it. And your reaction was great!
I love the fact you pulled up the lyrics. You just got another subscriber! Get to 150k!!!
"Incredible" was the only word I could think of too. I'm sure some more descriptive words will come as this sinks in. I'm gonna go have the day I deserve...thanks for sharing. 😉
Ren was eventually diagnosed with Lyme disease. This video was the 4th take and if you look you can see the mic on his left shoulder as well as see him unplug the guitar.
The voice of reason, the voice of hope, THE VOICE THAT LOOSENS THE NOOSE ON THE ROPE.
So sorry I missed this live. You're a great reactor, Britt. Always a good time ❤
I've watched several dozen reaction videos for this song and I'm surprised by the number of "reactors" who miss this line. They hit on the "hope" word and are reacting, and either pause at that moment to discuss and when it starts up again they aren't ready and the "noose" line just gets lost, or since they are still vocalizing as a reaction they miss the next phrase completely.
That phrase is probably the most powerful line in the whole song. It speaks to purpose - his purpose - his reason for creating music. He wants that connection and through his music he reaches out to get it. But other people want that connection as well, and he knows this, and sometimes music is their only conduit to that connection - even if it's one way. It's a life line.
I like the reactors who go back 5-10 seconds and before getting back to the song, because the ones that did that get taken back and have to stop again because they realized they missed that "noose on the rope" line.
Such a powerful song and message.
About time!
Nice reaction! ❤
Now it's time for you to do, Jenny and Screech's tale, Violet's tale, 3 songs 1 story!
Do the full triology, all at once! 😊
Agreed 100%. If you think this one hit hard I would say The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full) hits even harder. Definitely watch the full 13minute video all at once (all 3 songs back-to-back).
Very cool 😎 mind blowing 🔥 I love the way he used the lamps in the back, the bigger lamp is negative thoughts and was on when dumb Ren was speaking then you have the smaller lamp in back which is the inner child Ren that was on when the beautiful Ren was speaking, and when both lamps are on its the whole Ren 😊 Beautiful words from Ren at end, I love that, eternal dance, just beautiful 🔥
I hope you have a Happy Mother's Day
Thank you so much, John!
Britt this was worth the wait! You did this video so beautifully from beginning to end. I think having your reaction in real time made it that much better for a song like this. Appreciate you and you have the day you deserve too❤
He's a GENIUS.. 👍😎🏴🇬🇧
Love ren❤ the big push his band is awesome too❤ ty so much for your open and honest support for our mental health❤
Britt, a must-react-to is Ren’s ‘Chalk Outlines (live)’ featuring Chinchilla
The reaction to him singing (not yodeling) in the beginning juxtaposed to the ending is always priceless
Perfect. I'm looking forward to this one, as a Ren fanboy who has watched an embarrassing amount of reactions to his work.
I'm sure you won't disappoint lass x
Lovely reaction.
I love how the way you react is so raw and real. The way I react in my own room alone.
4:05 I GOT A SHOUT OUT!!!
"Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope."
This is the line that stands out for me as the defining moment of this masterpiece (and I've never use that word for a contemporary song).
That song is utterly amazing and I really hope you react more of his music and show your fans his work so they can support him as well. He was very sick with Lyme disease and nearly died and now he’s making killer hits amazing.
Thanks for sharing this! Loved it!
Wow that silence at the end of the monolog says it all. Powerful love it
How can 1 man capture us for 9 minutes without being distracted
Don' let this one scare you. He has a lighter side as well. Try looking at his street song with the big Push (the group he was in) "I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion Hip Hop mix, or some of his raps like "Right Here Right Now or "What You Want". One of my favourites is "Why My Woman" from The Big Push and Rens version of "Bittersweet Symphony"
It is incredible that just standing up has such a powerful reaction, the lights flashing while the negative entity has control, the lad's are geniuses.try the tale of jenny and screech and violet tale animal flow and and money game parts 1, 2 and 3
My girl Brit finally found Ren!!!!
Watched like 50 of Hi Ren reactions but I think I finally found what u was looking for 😊
The lights only Flickr when evil Ren is talking.
He’s brilliant.
Intriguing……deep dive, serious lyrics with depth. Gifted.
this is music, this is theatre, this is a confession..... this is ART
Masterpiece.....Ren is amazing...thanks
The heart beats to a rhythm. Music is humanity
This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome.
There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates.
As a person who’s never been able to escape imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that I *know* I have-was sooo important.
It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it.
*Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison.
You are *stronger* than that voice.
You are stronger than you can *possibly* know…
until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.
I cried the first time I ever heard this song. It's sooo human, and I think every human can relate to it in some way.
There’s some reference to Animal Farm in the video. It was done in a single take that he performed for the video. The lights flicker when it’s the darkness in his psyche coming through. It’s an incredible piece of art by an amazing artist.
Love it..."Gotta go through it to get through it'
This is LIT !!!! BTW,love your selections of artists....Keep on going,friend. 😊😅😂
That was an amazing reaction! I can't remember if I watched your original because I've watched over 100 so far but yours is one of the best. Thanks Britt!
Love Ren, can talk about this performance forever, but just wanted to thank you for giving the people what they asked for (not me, just stumbled upon you video, which is great, so you got yourself a new subscriber). Also you are pleasant to watch and listen to.
You are so right: THIS IS TRUTH !!!
Thank you for this amazing reaction !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if I've ever enjoyed a live reaction or any of them as much as this one.
Britt nails it, per usual. Much love and respect.
oh...you are in for a treat Sick Boi is the next natural progression, then Chalk Outlines
Music is essentially about capturing the human experience. Ren is a master at it.
It still hits me and I have also seen it about 50 times. PLEASE do more Ren songs...his rapping is awesome and his version Live of I shot the sherrif/Road to Zion/Hip Hop is also fire.
A Gift. 100% ❤
In my opinion the biggest mistake anyone can make is, after listening to "Hi - Ren", not listening to "Tale of Jenny and Screech (trilogy - Full)" (Or the tales of Jenny, Screech and Violet in that exact order).
Then, to surprise you even more, "Humble", "Ocean", "Losing It", "Genesis", "English man in New York" and "Bongo Bong" (as a member of The Big Push")... and more ! Just dive in and enjoy... I did it!
Britt, you would Ren's song with Chinchilla - How to be me, it would be right up your alley!
Enjoy your fall down the Ren rabbit hole! Welcome to the REN(aissance)!
Be prepared. No two songs sound the same.
Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)
Sick Boi
The Hunger
Animal Flow
So many social issues addressed in his work. And it's obvious that Ren cares about his reactors and fans.
The entire video it's a fixed type camera filming. Then after the "devil" segment it turns into "freecam" filming...its dope af. It represents him being free from his negative thoughts
This is life changing!! Music can change the perspective of those who will listen.
LIVE! One and done, that’s how REN plays the game. 💫💥🔥💥💫
Always happy to see love for Ren. He's incredible. Found your channel via Ren, and have subbed. Great video!
Eyes open ears on ✌️❤️🏴
Oh man... I fell down the Ren UA-cam rabbit hole. Love this guy. To me his sound is a mixture of Beethoven, Shakespeare and Eminem .
this man is so ridiculously talent he can do it all at a very high level pls do more of his content
A sponsor!? I missed this, congrats Britt!!
Pure Genius ❤
*REN is the Swiss Army knife of music the one with the fork and the spoon.*
Excuse me for being off topic but I HAVE to say YOU ARE ONE GORGEOUS WOMAN, WOMAN! JUST WOW! WHEW! Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…
This song gets better every time I hear it
Also, I love your reactions, your face is so emotive and empathetic
The flickering lights accompany the chaotic voice. In the beginning, the falsetto singing had steady lighting, but that section followed the chaotic guitar, and was more peaceful. At the end, the last voice was the voice of calm, and the chaos re-emerged in the falsetto singing. And of course, that chaos was the setup for the supremely calm, spoken word free verse at the end. We are both parts. It is all us, we are one.
oh, and when the calm voice tries to kill the chaotic voice, the lights start flickering, showing that he's losing control of the calm portion in the process of trying to kill the chaotic voice. just brilliant and meticulously thought out!
Sponsor! Whoo! Congratulations!!!!
1st time hearing this song...WOW!!❤
It actually reminds me of "Best Rapper Ever" by Tom Macdonald. You should DEFINITELY do that one!
#HOG #Hangovergang concurs.
This is from Ren's music page the day before Hi Ren dropped...

rEN~
Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticise or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed.
I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head.
When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus.
These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between.
My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished.
My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world.
The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war.
For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person.
I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought.
Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours.
I can't wait for you all to hear it.
I'm assuming that was a repost, but I'm glad that you shared it anyways. The reason I say repost is because the song came out mid December. Forgive me if I'm incorrect but I'm almost positive I heard it before January 1st.
This was also a one take video. It took him 4 tries but he got it
Been waiting for you to do this one!
Great reaction. As you said, this song connected with so many people around the world because it is also so many people's story to what ever degree!
He is a real artist. Next you should hear chalk outlines👍🤗
