I owned a Canon AE1 years ago but the cost and hassle of processing film got to be too much. I had the Nikon given to me 4 years ago, and was overwhelmed with the manual and literally only took a handful of photos and shelved it. Now getting back into camping I'm motivated to try this again. I recharged the batteries and searched UA-cam and found your channel. I've learned more in 10 minutes than the hours with the manual. Thank you.
this is my first cam. I just bought this last monday and I have totally no idea what will i do that's why i came here. just wanted to say thank you this tutorial really helps. :)
I just got D5200 as my first Dslr few days ago. Really excited about it and as a beginner this video really help. Looking forward for more tutorial. Cheer from Malaysia.
Awesome tutorial. I've owned this camera for years, and I'll admit it, I was stuck on "Auto" mode. I had no clue what all those buttons did, nor was I aware of what this camera was capable of. Now that I am getting into more media production, I even happier that I made this purchase and watched your tutorial.
I was looking for a revirw and explanation of the D5200. Most of what I found was just a useless unboxing, or just looking t the camera. Now I am definitely buying this camera! Ypu convinced me! Love all your videos
Just wanted to say thank you for the video. I'm a newbie, just took the camera out of the box and then did a search on how to use it. Never owned a Nikon before so thank you again.
@ Matt Granger: I wanted to tank you for this video! This was such a helpful video, and the best thing of all is you made it clear, to the point and you did not make the beginners feel like idiots while doing it! Too many people are elitists and you could not be further from that! Thank you! Two thumbs way up!
What I like about your video you explain very well, nice and step by step procedure which is good for me I am a first timer user and I have my new Nikon D5200. Thank you for sharing us this video
I just bought this camera yesterday. I've watched many of your videos and I really like the Nikons. I also have a Canon EOS t1i that I've had for several years and I thought it was time for an upgrade. I am wanting to get a photography business going and I hope my Nikon D5200 will be a good entry level camera for me.
Matt, I've learned much from your videos and appreciate all your hard work. There is one thing I'd like to point out. During your presentation, you tend to speed up. At first you have a nice relaxed pace and there's time to take in the info, but toward the end of the video you're spitting things out so fast I cannot follow. This is totally natural for speakers and musicians, and keeping a steady pace can be difficult. Still, I wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks for all your excellent videos.
What more could you ask for when buying a camera less than $900? I did a complete hands on review video for "Focus Camera" in NYC. I recommend that you get it here! amzn.to/1qPEE3H

my mom got me this on my bday a week ago and this video is very helpful! since this cam is old and i didn't get a manual this vid was very handy thank you so much!
This has been a great review. I have had my camera for a year and use it very little. Just an amateur but would love to learn more. Have taken some classes but did not retain much. Thank you so much.
I got this one as my first Dslr ever and i think is great at lest to begin with, thank you very much for you review, very detail and well explain, thanks for you time bro.
Best review. I just made my decision. This is objective information. You should consider a career in journalism and debate moderation as well. Fair and balanced.
Fantastic tutorial, and perfect since I just got this one - it's easier to watch this video than to go through the manual and find any new features of this camera. Thank you!
You are the reason I brought the D5200 thanks for the info from this and the review video. Taking Awsome pictures.ready to start my Photography business now. Thank You. Shooting in the Selective color effect has given me some pictures I will be blowing up and framing. Norrowing down the software I will be using.
matt granger thank you so much I wanted to become a photographer and after watching this it has really helped me so thank you aalso I subscribed and liked
FYI the viewfinder grid display is NOT rule of thirds. For a start its split into 4. Secondly, the upper and lower lines are positioned above the rule of thirds line.
It is an awesome video. Really helped me a lot in adjusting my own menu. Its very handy now and I can access all the camera settings in just My Menu tab
This tutorial is awesome!!! I wasn't sure wether to get the d3200 or d5200. And since it's going to be my first dslr I was especially interested in the guide on the 3200. Now that I watched this video I decided to get the 5200. (all I was afraid of were all the buttons and finding out what they actually do!) Thank you so much. Where are you from, you got a funny accent! ;) Greetings!
for full face and intra oral photography, what do you recommend for f stop, ISO and shutter speed. I would like to set up my camera to those settings and not have to bother too much after that. If that is feasible. Thank you in advance for your help. and this was a great video thanks again. Lanny
Yes, that is a definite convenience factor. I am a lifelong Nikon user, going back to the F film cameras, and I have a Nikon prejudice for sure, but I have been using the Fuji X100 for about a year and I am very partial to it. Were I to get something else today, I think it would be the Fuji XE1, even more than the X Pro 1 or these Nikon DSLRs. Aperture on the lens, shutter on top, just like the old days. It is just less fuss to adjust things on the fly and the lenses are second to none.
Very helpful video. Thank you. If you could reduce the glare on the camera what you are using for the demo, it will really help. Nevertheless, thank you for this great tutorial.
Kingdom. Go into the menu, set the image quality to RAW+JPEG FIne for the highest possible resolution. Also, its always about the Lens. The D5200 is all the body you will ever need, upgrade the lens, and voila! hope that helps
Really great video. Your articulation is very clear and your style in showing those options was nice. Thorough, yet still brisk enough to prevent watcher falling asleep. :) There was so much usefull information, that I probably need to see this few more times (as I'll be getting this camera maybe tomorrow) and memorize it well. Thanks!
It took a while of asking around but I've got the answer: Go into the playback menu, select playback display options and check "Shooting Data". Hope it helps.
Great tutorial. I didn't know my camera had all these options, in fact there's far too many options. I'm going to Iceland next month and wanting the optimal set up but don't know how much of these things I need to turn off, as from what I gather, all I need is to vary the ISO, W & B and aperture?
this was some what helpful. iv had my D5200 a week now. got it on Monday went out Tuesday. and was very disappointed when i got home and down loaded the photos to my lap top. the quality was not near as good as photos iv taken with my canon sx169 16x zoom digital point and shoot. even in auto mode the images are just not good. this is my first dslr so im hoping its just my lack of knowledge and not the camera. i have a very good lens the nikkor 28-300 mm. its a $1000 lens. going out to shot the snowy owls tomorrow. hope i can figure it out.
Hi, Tha ks for this, can you tell me this, when I want to take a shot and I press tje magnifying button it zooms in but when I take the shots it's further away, is there a way to take the shot close as it shows in tje display and is there a zoom button or can zoom only be done by turning the lens manually.
Hello everybody! I'm gonna get my first dslr, which means that I'm a beginner on photography. I just wanna take beautiful pictures from places where I go, concerts etc and also photoshoot people. Should I go for the d3200 double kit or d5200 with the 18-55mm lens?
It really depends if you are taking pictures inside or outside. Generally for sport you want a fast shutter speed, fully open aperture to let in as much light as possible, and a low ISO to prevent grainy images. You might also want to use continuous auto focus (AF-C)and Continuous L burst shutter mode to take multiple photos if you hold the shutter button down. Finally, you might want to use Dynamic-area AF (9 autofocus points).
is there the possibility to save different user pre setting? i ve just bought it. generally i was keeping a user 1 set up in black and white, user 2 in seppia etc.... is it possible?

Well done but one suggestion. When you are shooting the display screen it's showing a lot of reflection which is hard to see.
