I pick it up Monday from carvana and this video and channel couldn’t have been any more helpful! Really hope I like the car, pretty excited as this will be my first Audi I’ve owned.
Welcome to the C7 Community! I think you will enjoy the car as long as you are aware of the maintenance involved in keeping up with it. They are fantastic platforms for enthusiasts.
Wow. Thanks for providing such an in-depth look into the ownership and maintenance of these C7’s. I am considering a 2013 a7 3.0T with 90,000 miles. The car is on its second owner who has already replaced the valve cover gaskets, PCV, timing seal, brake booster, water pump, and recently changed the trans and diff fluids. Oil changes every 5,000 with LiquiMoly. A few things I hadn’t considered needing eventual replacement that you noted were timing chains themselves (not just the tensioner), control arms, motor mounts, and cats… Such a beautiful machine, but man… I’m not sure I can stomach the maintenance without the DIY wherewithal (and probably neither can the current owner lol).
The problem I have discovered with FCP Euro is that they may have a lifetime warranty but that's only useful as long as they sell the replacement parts. As the cars get older they stop offering the parts and there may be no replacement option there. I'm seeing this with several of the things I purchased for my D2 S8 and C4 S4 (which btw, the 2.2 AAN is the best engine Audi ever built - ha). Anyhow, since the C7 is still relatively new you likely have a few years before things start vanishing and making the lifetime warranty a bit of a moot point. If you're intending to keep the car for the long haul, consider building a stock pile of the hard to find spares. Audi has a rather miserable track record of "supporting" their classic models here in the USA unlike brands like Porsche, Mercedes and even BMW.
Just wanted to leave my nugget of information that I believe is very important for those of you that may go to harbor freight to get the sandblasting unit to clean your intake valves. I purchased the red 110 lbs pressurized media blaster unit. I realized that there was metal media that must have been used to test the unit at the factory. It was really difficult to take it out of the canister even after multiple runs with water to rinse it out. After figuring out that there was still media inside, I decided I didn't feel safe to use it in my engine and ended up using the zip tie method. I checked other units of the same kind and they all had the metal media inside. Be careful guys!
ive been nonstop watching your videos for a few days and truly appreciate what youre doing. Ive got a question regarding my timing chain on my c7 3.0t a6, its been rattling on start up every now and then only for about half a second, do you know if its something to worry about?
@@AudiC7Owners I actually didn't start burning oil like this until I changed my PCV. I wonder if that could potentially be a factor. It just strikes me as weird that it's only on hard accelerations/WOT.
@@Lizard6376 I'd get your car scanned to see if you are still throwing a PCV code. If you didn't change the PCV breather tube as well it could be your culprit.
Nope. I'm talking about the hose that comes out of the top of the pcv, goes through a check valve, & connects to the sc. Check out our pcv tips & tricks video. We list the part number in the description
Kinda confusing when youre refering the S6 as "s-line models" My 3.0t is an S line, but not an S6🙃 Great content and knowledge on these cars, thank you for the many guides, tips and what not🏁🏁👍

Awesome channel, man! I am am not far, I am up in New Bern area. I just purchased a 2011 A6 Avant with 72k miles. It has consumption issues. Burning about a qt every 1000 miles. I am hoping to do the PCV water pump tstat and walnut blast all at once. If you want to lend a hand your welcome to! Lol
How reliable are these cars. I've had my Volvo s60 2.5t for 8yrs now and never any problems. It's time for me to upgrade. So I'm getting a 16 audi a6 3.0t. I'm gonna put apr stage 2plus tune, awe intake, exhaust, heat exchanger, intercooler and then Ashanti rims. Hoping this car will last along time. Great Channel. It's so informative. Keep up the great work
They have maintenance things you need to be aware of, but overall they are very reliable. But they aren't a car you can just throw horsepower without paying attention to. The more educated on the car you are the better you will be equipped to know what to look for.
carmax had a decent S8 a couple months ago and we were back in to do something else - one of sales reps said a guy took it for a "7 day test drive" shredded the tires and destroyed the car - really wish I knew who it was
Quick question, I’ve been following your page for awhile now. Great stuff! But I just replaced my water pump since it failed about 3 months ago. Now all of a sudden I’m loosing coolant again, but no leaks nor can I smell any coolant burning. Could it be my thermostat? Pcv? Or can a rock damage my Inter cooler? I have a 2013 Audi A7 3.0 with 94,000 MI. It only leaks when parked overnight, a very slow leak, no smoke either, doesn’t even overheat either.
If you aren't seeing any visible signs of a leak you need to look into your pcv failing and leaking coolant into your oil. Check the link in the description to VanCity Audi's video to see what I'm taking about. But make sure you also remove your skid plates to check for leaks over night so any leak makes its way to the floor.
I had a mysterious coolant leak and when pressure tested there was no leak? It was a reputable Indy shop. It was an 2010 Audi A6 and it happened at about 60K miles. He pressure tested the car for a whole weekend and when I called to check on my car on Monday, he told me to junk the car!! He said the car had a blown head gasket because the oil mixed with the coolant. Long story short, I had another Indy replace the head gasket and after 3 days the same issue occured...losing coolant. Soon after that the engine blew after they replaced the supercharger as well. They must not have put the engine back together properly. EXPENSIVE mistake!!
After hard driving or long driving I have very light smoke and burning smell coming from engine bay near the exhaust manifold could it be leaking valve cover gasket or something else?
Does it smell like burning oil or something different? Any way you can get a video of it for me to see exactly what is going on? Which side of the engine?
Great video with great content! If you’re not aware however, there’s underlying clipping in your audio. Might want to look in the compression settings or format before you upload.
I just bought a 2012 C7 with 88k on it and after watching this, I am not going to lie, I AM SCARED AF LOL. I don’t want to deal with all this maintenance and I am realizing that a pre-purchase inspection doesn’t cover even 10 percent of all the potential issues that was covered in this video. Then to top it off, the CarFax has no service records. Think I really f’d up here big time!
Looking at getting a 2014 A7. Would like a facelift but it's a bit more than I want to spend. So the timing chain issue was resolved by 2014 or should I try for a 2016? There is a 124k mile (a but high?) 2016 available in my price range. Hmmmm
Honestly if you look up videos on other late model audi's (a4's/a3's) with the same engine you will find a lot of info. They just aren't very popular for the C7 platform.
What model and make of motor mount is going to fit the same car but with 2.0 liter diesel engine? If I understand correctly, it would be something made by Lemforder. Does anyone have a part number, or a link to the set?
Hey man, great video! I have a 2013 Audi A7 prestige, I'm trying to get a diffuser for it. I thought S line was only models like "S7" or "RS7". Does mine being a prestige model be considered an S line? I just want to be sure in getting the right diffuser for my model if that's the case
Hey pal just got a c7 and my boot lid is leaking in and not sure where exactly....as I open my lid water pours out of the little inspection hatches where youd pop your hands in to change the bulb 🤷♂️🤷♂️
I've never experienced this but I would pull the escrow inner trunk lid covering off to inspect. There is obviously some kind of weather seal that is damaged & not doing its job somewhere.
When it comes to downpipes. I know it varies state to state, but in more restrictive states like where I am, in Massachusetts, are people getting away with emissions and getting inspections stickers? Ive heard there are way to get it done, but I've never seen it.
Bought a c7 with a 150k miles. Carfax stated water pump, thermostat, engine mounts, oil changes etc have all been serviced. I looked under the car and noticed a bit of oil surfacing, is that something to worry about?
Looking at getting a 2016 or 2017 A6 C7.5 for my daughter. I've been a 9-year BMW owner so far, 2011 335xi with 230k miles on which I do all my own maint. This video is very comprehensive and I am now feeling I can work on this kind of car with no problem. Is there a Bentley or equivalent service manual you would recommend with torque specs/procedures?
Almost everything is going to be the same for 2016-2018 C7's as well. Gets are very minor differences in the motor/supercharger but they should effect anything you do in regards to maintenance on the car
I would like to make a prediction.... We will never see a Air to Air intercooler for our positive displacement blower. That statement you made was pretty far into that beer though so it's forgiven.
@@AudiC7Owners Have you ever seen another blower that lives within the intake manifold of the engine run a Air to Air intercooler on any other platform ? I just need a visual to see the puzzle piece I must be missing.
I don't know how it would work lol. All I know is that people who are intimately familiar with this platform are looking at an air2air design for it. Might not ever happen, but it's being explored.
These are solid bushings so they will last longer than oem. They have made the cars handling tighten up, and more responsive. You "feel" the road more which is good for me. It isn't a bad ride or anything, but it isn't super smooth like stock bushings. I'm very happy with the outcome.
@@AudiC7Owners that sounds perfect. Handling on these below about 50 mph is a bit numb. I was looking for a way to rectify that. You just sold me this change! What do you charge to replace ones on the front lower control arms lol
Awsome video brother. I have 2012 A7 3.0T. When i turn the steering wheel all the way to the left side, the car makes a little scratching sound. What could that be caused by?
Is it worth doing a video on just 4.0TT cars? Is there really more to cover on those than what you already covered in this one? I feel there's a large lack in 4.0 videos esp for diy guys.
I have a 16 C7.5 CREC. Does that motor still need walnut blasting? Doesn’t it have port and GDI injection? I have heard that it has both and doesn’t get the carbon build-up. Is that true?
Hey man quick question, 15 A6 3.0T prestige now @ 136k no lights ever but now I’m getting low engine oil about every week to 2weeks after my big service
@@AudiC7Owners Yeah, I think a lot of it stems from people not knowing sources of their information and just regurgitating things that they don't have first hand knowledge of. Hopefully the more of us that have first hand quality information that we share can kind of alleviate this. As old as these platforms are, you would would think this would be cleared up by now. This is @s4vag3_s4 by the way. I do want to add to the CEL from test pipes though... On my B8.5 S4 I don't get a CEL or soft code from my test pipes and I don't run spacers on the IE DP E40 maps. James was running spacers and was still getting a code on APR, so he ended up taking them off. Curious what happens with his IE files once they are out of beta.
That's probably your tune. I know some older tunes code it out, and 1 company that shall not be named still does that. But the epa has most people scared to the point they refuse to disable the CEL for emissions related things. And yes, spacers are hit or miss. Gotta find the ones that make your car happy lol
@@AudiC7Owners Yeah, once you surpass a certain level of tunes that are deemed "Off-road or race use only" is when that happens, which is not anything new when tuning ANY platform. For some reason though people don't realize this and tell everybody to run spacers regardless, when they really don't need to and shouldn't as certain companies recommend not to regardless. Great content for you C7 guys and even B8/8.5 because it is still very applicable. (I'm sure you know all of this already, just putting it out there for others to read)
Going to buy a 2016 Audi a6 2.0/3.0 idk which but they’re all at or around 66k miles but will the dealer fix these problems if asked to before I drive off with it
Hey I was looking at a 2013 A6 3.0t tsfi with 133,000 today, as the seller turned the car on and started reversing, I seen light white smoke was coming out the exhaust, opened the hood and the coolant was leaking, should I go for it, or what do I tell the seller to fix before I get it or should I even get it
My 3.0t gets over 400 miles to a tank. I get 33mpg on the highway as well. I came from a gti with the 2.0t to the 3.0t & I want noticed no difference in gas consumption between the 2 under normal driving habits. But maintenance is more expensive in the 3.0t.
@@AudiC7Owners would you say i should go for it ? I’m currently considering the car if it will be worth the money, because I have to finance it Note: it’s a standard A6 2013 with stick shift manual. It looks beautifully, since it’s blacked out
It depends on your budget. The 3.0t is way more fun with way more available mods. But the sacrifice is more maintenance that is pricier. If you learn to do it yourself you can save a lot of money.
If that is rolled into your loan I would. If you have to pay out of pocket it comes down to whether your cash afford it comfortably. It's not a bad idea
It's literally just knocking out the internal material with anything long enough after you get them off the car (long screw driver or something) I am not using spacers because I don't live in an emissions county, but others do.

Had a 2017 Infiniti 3.0T twin turbo and recently got totaled. Market is crazy rn and just got me a 2012 A6 3.0T w/ 49k miles.
How has maintenance been
I'm buying a c7.5 tomorrow I knew some of this already but I appreciate the stuff I didn't know and there was a lot of stuff !!
A few things I hadn’t considered needing eventual replacement that you noted were timing chains themselves (not just the tensioner), control arms, motor mounts, and cats…
Such a beautiful machine, but man… I’m not sure I can stomach the maintenance without the DIY wherewithal (and probably neither can the current owner lol).
Honestly it isn't that bad. And doing the diy stuff is pretty simple on these cars with the right tools. Good luck!
Super good video Cam. This def reassures me of the concerns I had with the 3.0T. Going to upgrade my 8V to a C7 today

Thanks man 🤘🏻
The problem I have discovered with FCP Euro is that they may have a lifetime warranty but that's only useful as long as they sell the replacement parts.
That's always a risk, but with this motor being so popular in the b8/sq5/c7 community I don't see people stopping support for it for a very long time
Just wanted to leave my nugget of information that I believe is very important for those of you that may go to harbor freight to get the sandblasting unit to clean your intake valves.

They have maintenance things you need to be aware of, but overall they are very reliable. But they aren't a car you can just throw horsepower without paying attention to. The more educated on the car you are the better you will be equipped to know what to look for.
@AudiC7Owners I sent u a message on Instagram bud.
carmax had a decent S8 a couple months ago and we were back in to do something else - one of sales reps said a guy took it for a "7 day test drive" shredded the tires and destroyed the car - really wish I knew who it was
Sounds like he just swapped wheels lol
Great overview thanks!
Would be awesome to have a simple dipstick lol.
You can buy one from fcp euro
After watching this video, I now know the real problem! Wish I would have known back then.
Sorry man! Head gaskets almost never fail on the 3.0t.
Good vid, although can I suggest adding in time stamps?
I will eventually. I just got this uploaded late last night
After hard driving or long driving I have very light smoke and burning smell coming from engine bay near the exhaust manifold could it be leaking valve cover gasket or something else?
Does it smell like burning oil or something different? Any way you can get a video of it for me to see exactly what is going on? Which side of the engine?
Cool video , thanks 👍
Great video with great content! If you’re not aware however, there’s underlying clipping in your audio. Might want to look in the compression settings or format before you upload.
Yep. I'm aware. I may re-shoot this Fri eventually because of it. It is actually from an issue with the mic I was using
what's your thoughts on BG's fuel induction cleaning service for the 3.0t for that carbon build up? Would you recommend it?
I just bought a 2012 C7 with 88k on it and after watching this, I am not going to lie, I AM SCARED AF LOL. I don’t want to deal with all this maintenance and I am realizing that a pre-purchase inspection doesn’t cover even 10 percent of all the potential issues that was covered in this video. Then to top it off, the CarFax has no service records. Think I really f’d up here big time!
These are just common things to be aware of. Don't be afraid of the car as they are typically very reliable. Enjoy it.
Looking at getting a 2014 A7. Would like a facelift but it's a bit more than I want to spend. So the timing chain issue was resolved by 2014 or should I try for a 2016? There is a 124k mile (a but high?) 2016 available in my price range. Hmmmm
2014 is perfectly fine. Most people prefer that engine as well VS the CREC engine in the facelift models

When it comes to downpipes. I know it varies state to state, but in more restrictive states like where I am, in Massachusetts, are people getting away with emissions and getting inspections stickers? Ive heard there are way to get it done, but I've never seen it.

There are people working on it already.
@@AudiC7Owners Have you ever seen another blower that lives within the intake manifold of the engine run a Air to Air intercooler on any other platform ? I just need a visual to see the puzzle piece I must be missing.

What changes in handling did you notice with the 034 bushings (if any)? And do these last longer or shorter?
These are solid bushings so they will last longer than oem. They have made the cars handling tighten up, and more responsive. You "feel" the road more which is good for me. It isn't a bad ride or anything, but it isn't super smooth like stock bushings. I'm very happy with the outcome.

That's probably your tune. I know some older tunes code it out, and 1 company that shall not be named still does that. But the epa has most people scared to the point they refuse to disable the CEL for emissions related things.

There are a few videos around UA-cam but nothing super detailed.
Thanks for your info, but there is a irritating noise when you speak 🗣. So annoying would you mind check your sound before recording? Thanks

I already uploaded another video and it's gone. Seems to be a one off with this one.
