The Lukas is oddly named; it's actually a Cobalt Green. It does look really nice. I bought this pigment from Qor and regret it deeply LOL. Genuine Terra Verte is actually PG 23, a very weakly tinting earth pigment that is useful for portraits.

You've done a great job of the swatching series, the pigment information has been very helpful. The brand comparisons have been an eye-opener.
You have a great Zen-style voice (reminds me a bit of Ogmios in his School of Zen Motoring mini-series).
White Nights Cadmium Yellow is intense - it looks almost opaque. I have the Ladoga version, which I think is essentially the same. I think both are from Evetskya Palitra St. Petersburg. I also have the Ladoga Blue Lake, it's a goegeous "brilliant blue", so I can forgive its fugitive reputation...
I bought a White Nights chromium green recently, but I've found it to be almost completely opaque - is that normal?
That Van Gogh Turquoise Green is wonderful to use in seascapes.
The Cyan primary blue looked stunning. I have a QoR Manganese Blue which looks very similar.
That Turner's Transparent Red Oxide is a juicy colour.

Ive actually haven't tried Turner watercolors but they are on my list next: i hear the mars violet and mars black are really amazing so I think ill start without those but that Manganese violet by Turner is beautiful. Lindsay the Frugal Crafter on UA-cam has been painting with watercolor for almost 40 years, shes an amazing artist and she really likes Turner as well. Anyway great video! Thanks for sharing, much love!

this video sparked quite the mystery with the liquitex paints! Haha. The PG26 looks way more interesting than the Rembrandt, I tried it recently and wasn't impressed. Expected it to at least granulate, but the color is weak too. The Maimeri looks really nice indeed, loved that flow. The Turner also look very nice

@@JayNathanWatercolor Oh, I hear you, brother! I’m toying with the idea of one day compiling a 19th century fugitive palette:
      Rose Madder Genuine
      Alizarin Crimson
      Gamboge
      Prussian Blue
Hooker Green Genuine (Prussian Blue + Gamboge)
      Indigo
Madder Brown Genuine (not sure if it is available)
      Aureolin (maybe?)
      Sap Green Genuine (definatly!)
      Still de Grain
      Dragon’s Blood
And maybe round them off with some lightfast paints such as Cobalt Blue, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna and Cerulean.

I really like that Manganese Violet!
I can't find anything anywhere that says that Liquitex ever made (or now makes) watercolors. They don't mention it on their history page (I checked in case it was something they used to make but discontinued) and I have never personally seen any reference to it. No mention that it is a new or upcoming thing, either. I can find a lot of references to using their acrylic inks *like* watercolors, but no actual watercolor paints. I am really wondering what you got that is labeled Liquitex! (Mislabeled, counterfeit, something they are quietly beta testing in only one locale...??)

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 роки тому +3

I couldn't find anything online mentioning them either. All I know is that they are pretty old. Late 80s/ early 90s. We're going to investigate and will let you know if we find anything.

I had no idea Liquitex made watercolor. I've read good things about Maimeri Blu but I've never tried it. I also haven't tried Turner. I can actually get a small selection of Grumbacher Academy and Van Gogh locally so I have a few tubes from when I was just starting out. I quickly moved on from those, but they were not bad to paint with. I mostly order from Blick's. Sometimes Amazon, but you never know what you are going to get from Amazon. Blick's at least has a clue. lol

    • @JayNathanWatercolor

Seems like many people didn't know they had made watercolors. I'm guessing it was a very brief thing as there is pretty much zero trace of it online.

  • @Christine_R

I mostly use PO71 but PO73 mixes a muted purple with Ultramarine Blue. I have quite a lot of different brands... but QoR is still the most expensive in my collection.
Funny enough... I love Qor watercolors but they cost a lot more than every other brand that is based in Europe. Anyway I'm fine with everything I can find.
Liquitex was selling watercolors? I didnt know that.

@@JayNathanWatercolor They really are... Series 1 and 2 are the most affordable to get first. They have some earth colors that you would like, too. I think the Mars Orange Deep is basically the same as Light Red (PR101). But they flow more than other watercolors. If you prefer more control than these might be not the right for you. Dr. Oto Kano made a video about the full range. If you really like to get just a few than I recommend watching the video series that she made.
