    One of the things I love about your analysis is how you explain why some moves are better in the long run (like the g6 move instead of g5) wich gives us more insight about strategy and positional awareness than just tactical lines delivered by the computer.

    23:28 - don't let Nigel Short hear you saying that! He'll have your guts for garters! 😄 mind you Eric Rosen's probably a huge fan of you saying that
    Great analysis of a tough battle. I do love your endgame analyses more than I think anything else on your channel. Particularly the small intricacies of them.

    This is why we want Grandmaster King's opinions on interesting games and not just anybody's opinions. Taking that rook on a8 looked perfectly plausible from an amateur point of view, and without help that endgame would be summed up as, "the players moved around for a long time until Duda lost his e-pawn and the players agreed to a draw."

    Great and motivating analysis, thanks! I wouldn't mind having the skipped moves in the video. If someone wants to skip it's easy with the video controls. You are the only one that spotted the 50 moves rules. Is that the other one of your favorite rules? Maybe it is with that rule as with the three fold repetition rule: one of the players has to call for it, not the arbiter.

    Magnus must have played on chocolate chessboards or something, lately,
    while actually eating all the pawn and pieces he captured (that's a lot of calories, if you play Chess like Carlsen!).
    Still, World Champion or not, perfectly fit and groomed or not, this guy is a Chess legend,
    and his skill and knowledge of the game won't go away just because he got a well deserved month or two of vacation.
    Thanks for your videos!

  • @LateCloser
    @LateCloser 11 місяців тому +1

    This is kind of why I'd like to see classical chess modernize. Simply to lessen the impact of computer prep in the openings, which allows weaker players to get results they wouldn't otherwise. Magnus is clearly the best player in the world. The less of the effect of the opening, the more likely he is to show it. There is a time control where theory loses some of it's grip on the game, and playing strength shines. It would also allow for increased viewership of major events. I don't dislike classical chess, but I recognize it's time has probably come. Just as we don't adjourn anymore and just as many years ago clocks were added in the first place. The game evolves.
    That's my unpopular but I think realistic opinion.

    As a kid I loved Robinson Crusoe. I'd read in bed until at around 3am I could physically no longer hold my eyes open, and be terribly sleepy the next day. I reread (some of) it as a grownup and didn't at all understand my former fascination. But I much prefer Magnus's new look to any clean-shaven face, although maybe his ponytail isn't so pretty. • @patrickdaly1088
    @patrickdaly1088 11 місяців тому

    When I was watching this game live, I was actually mystified by Duda's decision to not trade rooks by taking on b4. You said that Magnus wanted to exchange rooks, and Duda wanted to avoid the exchange of rooks, but then, as soon as the rooks were exchanged, you said "If anyone is better here it's black" and that was my assessment of the position as well. Isn't the endgame easier for black with only one rook on the board? With two rooks, there are far more mating possibilities for white, no?

    • @PowerPlayChess
      @PowerPlayChess  11 місяців тому +1

      White's rooks are poorly coordinated and rook and bishop are a potent duo. Therefore it is logical for White to exchange a pair of rooks, and it should bring the draw closer. As we saw, Black can still play for the win. If Carlsen had had more time I think he would have held the game far more easily.

    • @patrickdaly1088
      @patrickdaly1088 11 місяців тому

      @@PowerPlayChess Ahhh, I think I understand now. *If* white holds, in all likelihood that pair of rooks came off the board, white's chances of reaching a draw go up drastically. Carlsen is definitely the guy you want defending the white pieces there, but I still want black!
