Not only, but with the science bit, Plantern defies the laws of Thermodynamics as well. Darkness in the "sciency" sense is not a color or thing. It is only a lack of light energy bouncing into our eyes. The color black is not actually a type of visible light, it is just the object not reflecting any visible light, thus making it appear black. as the video states, "Other plants eat light and excrete oxygen; Plantern eats darkness and excretes light." If we take this literally this means that Plantern literally eats "nothing" and produces light, while massless, is still something that carries energy. The 1rst law of Thermodynamics state that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only altered in form. The 2nd law states that no energy process or chemical reaction can transfer energy with a 100% efficiency rate, i.e, all the energy that is entered as a reactant cannot all be present when it is turned into a different kind of energy. Meaning that Perpetual motion machines shall enver work for an infinite period of time. Plantern destroys all of these laws and then some. He creates energy from absolutely NOTHING and never falters in his goal. Unless proven otherwise, Plantern has broken one the fundamental laws of the universe and is in scientists' eyes, an absolute LAD.

if solar sage is a light based plant and can oneshot zombies, just imagine the untapped potential plantern is suppressing. solar sage, a literal "sage" that probably took decades of buddist training to reach enlightenment, plantern does just by existing. therfor, plantern >>> solar sage, he's not in pvz2 simply because of how powerful he is

2:31 slight misconception, there technically is 1 card that can destroy an environment in the game, the zombie card Squirrel Herder has an ability to destroy nuts and berries, and there just so happens to be exactly 1 environment card that fits that criteria, planet of the grapes, a berry environment, so Squirrel Herder too can destroy environments, albeit only 1 very specific environment

So What about Trapper and Shovel? Does that make them semi Gods? Since Shovel zombie can block most atacks in PvZ2 And Can eliminate any Environment (Bounce Lava/Water/Tecnology/Literaly Solar winds (The thing that creates Sun flowers)) WHIT The plants (Even The dragon frute that claims to be out of dark mather or someting) in PvzH, Trapper can destroy any Environment whit his traps breaking The law of Nature (Like how does one get rid of Swamp or lava/Etc..Whit just metal bars and some Teeth)
Also, Fireweed, Sapfling and Trapper Zombie all create environments when played (Hot Lava, Sappy Place and Trapper Territory respectively), which also destroy environments. While the argument could be made that it's the environment that destroys the other environment, not the unit, I still think they count as being classed as cards that can destroy environments.
I found it weird how people find him "useless", he's clearly a tool plant.
he’s a Hard Counter To One Specific Mechanic plant except said mechanic is literally just the inability to see and can also be countered by Blover just as well i’m pretty sure

I really like Plantern, his design is something that I always loved idk why, sadly he's use is only seeing through vases and fog and he's not on Pvz2 because there's no fog but he could have much more uses like buffing solar plants around it and producing some sun

that's actually genius idea cuz it just gives more use... also I'm still wondering why plantern isn't a mushroom since that would make more sense using it in fog levels. and in daytime you would have to use coffee bean to boost sunflowers around it.

I use blover more than plantern because it can remove all the fog but it can't permanently remove the fog like plantern, so this is understandable.
I use blover if theres balloon. Rather than wasting a tile for a cactus or cattail. And its just 100 sun

Did you guys forget that blover removes balloon zombies plus fog most of the time isn't a issue normally you would have gloom shroom if you saved up in that time so I would say plantern is still pretty trashy it only has 1 gimic in pvz 1 and the fog isn't an issue
I remember i beat all fog levels without ever using Plantern or Blover, got an achievement for it and everything.
Regardless, I actually love Plantern, not for his gimmick, but because of his design; besides being literally just a lantern made out of wood, it is simply, very pretty to look at, and has an overall cute design with his two cartoony eyes.
When I play pvz first time I don't used plantern.
I mean plantern is also responsible for the other plants carrying out photosynthesis cause he emits light

Lighthouse Plantern is an underrated plant.
plantern is able to enlighten the zombies because he has the ability to clear the fog, which is like bringing them out of the ‘darkness’
Plantern has always been my favorite plant! It’s cute and useful, and besides torchwood, is one of the only tree type plants in the game
Just want to address how sunflower "creates sun"
First, the raining "sun" we see ingame is, at least to me, is a collection of light energy in one place. It can naturally condense, but sunflower speeds up this process by collecting smaller light rays, then condenses them into one large "sun". Sunshroom's almanac entry says: "whenever sun builds up in (sunshroom's) system, they hate it so much they spit it all out." Sunshroom does not spit out many rays of light though. It spits out condensed "sun". This process also happens in heal flowers and the healing ray in garden warfare. Planterns does not "collect" light. They eat the absence of light and spit out light rays.

the "raining sun" can be condense light (this isn´t possible in reallity but in a game with talking plants that kill un-dead zombies WHIT PEAS, yeah it dosen´t matter) but if the sunflowers do the same thing just that they need less sun ¿how do they work in night if no sun spawns from the ski? you can say that there´s light but much less that we can´t collect manually but it´s just right to the sun flowers, BUT they give sun at the same rate ¿how is that possible? and in the almanac entry of the sunflower we see that it PRODUCE sun not that collects. the sunshroom system creates it sooooo no. and the garden warfare thing.... i can´t tell i never play any pvz shooting game, only the 2 tower defence ones (pvz3 doesn´t count) and heroes.
planterns don´t eat the absence of light, well.. yes they do but not that much, they eat darkness,
IRL darkness is the absence of light, but not in pvz, in pvz1 plantern´s light removes FOG, light does not remove fog, the other 2 ways to remove fog are blow it or burn it, its possible that the light of the fire is the one that removes it but sun from sunflowers doesn´t, so plantern´s light isn´t normal light it´s something else and because it´s made from darkness that darkness must be or at least have something diferent of normal darkness.

I don't care if it's the best thing in the world or literally the most repulsive thing in experience. All I want to do is find one in real life in the middle of the night and walk up to it and give plantern a huge hug.
That's obviously not going to happen, because he isn't real. But an I can dream that someday in some alternative multiverse, that I would finally be able to hug him.

Two years ago, I had this idea for this PvZ comic which had Plantern as one of the characters.
Basically it takes place in Lost City, where everything is kinda shitty at the moment because Plantern has been in a deep sleep for several years.
Ever since Plantern fell asleep, the city grew to chaos.
But I never had an explanation as to why, because I never finished it.
Plantern is literally my favorite plant, I just really love their design and what they could do despite how others see it as useless

Something else I noticed: playing over mushroom grotto while you have a punish-shroom activates the ability. When an environment is covered, it is considered destroyed.
Planterns and garlics are underated, garlic especially so seen as he can combo super well with so many plants

Ngl Plantern is super underrated, yeah it may not be the best plant ever, but out of all those memorable plants from the first game, Plantern is probably the most overlooked one. (Beside of Gold Magnet)
Over my 12 years of playing pvz this is the first time i have ever observed plantern having more than 1 eye (I thought the glowing bulb was it’s only eye)
Jokes aside tho this is actually really cool (& convincing even knowing it's a joke lol)
I've always had respect for Plantern due to the fact that he only costs 50 sun (+ defenses ofc) to fully get rid of the fog for a whole level, & his PvZ Heroes ability is pretty nice

If plantern does not rely on photosynthesis to survive that means he is not dependent on water, in addition he is also reaponsible for maintaining life of his bretheren as other plants rely on photosynthesis and him excreting light in the dark acts as a portable sun for the other plants

The first thing that comes to my mind is the removal of fog and the reveal of all of those annoying jack-in-the-box zombies in straitjackets, Also the balloon zombies exist.

I know you weren't mentioning mods, but it needs to be said that in pvz brutal mode, plantern truly shows its power as a godlike instant mass stun on summon plant that's practically an auto include for every single level in brutal mode.
