Lana Hall was the sweet voice your hear on Brazil '66's 'Mas Que Nada' and 'The Look of Love' and is the spouse of trumpeter Herb Alpert. Although the music is Michael Legrand, the lyrics are the husband / wife team of Alan and Marilyn Bergman - who won an Oscar for 'Windmills of Your Mind.'

When I first heard this song, I knew it was Lani Hall. I grew up on her voice. My father had all of Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66's albums. And I recognized her fabulous voice immediately.
Coming of age, saw this at theatres when I was 32,,,,, same age Sean was when Dr No was made. Followed Sean all his career and found him to be one of the most real genuine persons I have ever seen, ever.

Seeing Connery move across the screen in the gun barrel sequence is a reminder that he wasn't playing bond ... he was bond. No other actor comes close to his class and never will.
The whole soundtrack is really underrated - it was an 'unofficial' Bond film so had no John Barry score. It was much funkier, kinda fusion-esque. Gives the film a whole different feel, which I personally enjoyed. And Michel Legrand was a serious songsmith!
I had never known that Lani Hall is from Chicago. Her singing has a european sound. This song reminds me of the vocals from the band Shakatak. Their lead singer is Jill Saward with additional vocals from Jackie Rawe and Norma Lewis. While Lani was with Sergio Mendes I actually thought she was from Brazil. So much talent has come from Chicago.
And of course the irony is that her most well-known work was with Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, not to mention that she cut at least three spanish-language solo albums of her own

Lani's illness was that rare "Renal Disease" that left people practically paralyzed. She had faith in God and he pulled her thru it. But that was years ago Lani Hall is very healthy and alive today in 2020.
What nothing to do with skilled doctors and medical science but simply believing in Bronze Age supernatural myths? So for the unfortunate people who die from this disease are they lacking in faith? What a heartless thing to believe!
This movie is even better than many of EON Bond films... This is a masterpiece compared to "Casino Royale"! And not only 1967! 2006 too....................

Even in both "You Only Live Twice" and "Diamonds Are Forever", you can see that Connery was not in the best of shape to play 007 and in the latter, he looked 12 years older than his actual age at that time (41). Roger Moore, yes being three years older than Connery, at least looked younger and only showed his age after 1980, and the only reason why Connery, at 52 for NSNA, looked younger than his actual age was that Connery had more involvement with NSNA, as it was revenge over EON Productions on how he was treated poorly (in terms of pay).

He was fed with the paparazzi, exhausted from the extensive filming schedules involved with Bond films and location shooting as he traveled all over world in his first 5 appearances. Connery himself was a private person when not on set or didn’t always attend red carpet events, parties etc. Connery was offered $5 million to return for Live and Let Die but said never again which was the basis to the title of Never Say Never Again as he told his wife he would never play Bond again and he came back for the non official Bond film by Warner Bros Never Say Never Again at age 52 which he actually looked in better shape then he did at 40 in Diamonds Are Forever.

His then wife told him Never Say Never Again when was asked to return as bond. He was offered to return for Live And Let Die but turned it down. I have a been Bond fan for 26 years.

Yes great James Bond movie, the song amazing, it was nominated for Best Song Academy Awards 1983. Me a devoted Mendes&Brasil'66 fan super excited for Lani. Since it was released as a "Single" for her it Charted for 2 weeks at #98 on Billboard Hot 100. When it was Nominated, she was set to perform it on the Academy Awards. Really cool because in 1968 Mendes & Brasil'66 performed "The Look Of Love". But on the day of Academy Awards Show it was announced that Broadway Star Ann Reinking would be performing it. I was pissed, how rude & condescending to Lani. Ann Reinking had to memorize the lyrics in one day. Because back then everything was done "live". One Reporter wrote that the Academy was thinking Lani was not "big name" enough. And that Ann Reinking was known for being on Broadway, plus she was in the Bob Fosse Film "All That Jazz". Her husband had something to do with Production Crew of Academy Awards. Now that was in 1983. I was furious, but then I learned that Lani had a very bad rare dangerous disease, I cannot remember what it was but from early 1984 that had her bedridden for years. In 1986 when she won a Grammy for Best Album by a Spanish Female Vocalist, it was reported that she had a struggle to show up, but she wanted to be there for her Fans in case she won, which she did. They said right after she got up to Podium for the Award, she left abruptly afterwards to get back home☹🎶🎶🎤. Perhaps that's why the last minute change of Performer. This movie had wonderful Bond women has their ever been a better combination than Barbara Carrera, Kim Basinger and the classy Valerie Leon. Excellent theme tune by Lani Hall. Sean Connery apparently hated doing the movie, but the movie was far better than he gave it credit for, and of course he still had it, that is the good looks and Charisma, not surprised Carrera, Basinger and Leon were all over him in this movie. Proof sex appeal never dies no matter how old you get if already you've got it.

olibroli If you are a true bond fan then you will know that when Timothy Dalton & Craig Daniel have done the films they have more so stuck to Flemings books of bond being dark.
