Most design styles feel themed...especially dark academia. I would love a video about how to mix design styles or how to design based on how you want the space to feel.
@@Sinthecity I don't see the difference between design style and aesthetic. They both basically say "buy this furniture and decor and use these colors to achieve this look".

I would say my style now is Southern traditional. Similar to traditional in the comfy, cozy sense, but with a lighter color palette that reflects the warmer climate in the South. I can appreciate the draw to organic modern and Scandi with its calming effect, but for me personally it comes across as...dull. I'm all for a neutral base, but I need color as well so it doesn't become boring. Really enjoying your videos! Arlene
I love that you failed in the bedroom makeover. Not because you failed duh. But because you were so honest about it and thats how your channel came up to me. You should do a “things not to do” or “mistakes to avoid” when doing a room makeover video. The “i dont have another diy in me” really resonated with me, its honestly so much work! Looking forward to your actual makeover♥️
Victorian Naturalist is my design style. I’d say it’s an offshoot of Dark Academia but with a nature focus. Think pressed flowers with their scientific names in calligraphy in ornate picture frames. Ferns under cloches. Antique furniture. Framed butterfly specimens. Beautiful terrariums. 🌿🌿🌿
Hi! I really like your content, and your attention to detail. I would love it if you could take a look at the florist shop in the movie, “It Ends With Us”, and take apart the elements that make this space absolutely magical. My style for sure.
I don't want to pick a typical design style. They are too theme-y for my taste. I don't want a designer home because I don't find them homey or inviting. My design style can be summed up as "me." You would probably call my personal style "collected."
Depending on your personal style, it might simply be boho, shabby chic, or some other already well-established style, as many styles incorporate the "collected" aspect. That said, if you really don't want to pigeonhole yourself with a label, then don't 😊
A few years ago now I had someone approach me to say I’m “very dark academia”. Turns out I am in both fashion and home design. I’ll keep enjoying it after the trend has passed.
Dark , moody, jewel tones, low lights, tall palms, dark mahogany & walnut woods, ( in the wood work and framing of furniture) tapestry style upholstery, wing back chairs with queen Anne legs, tufted plush deep green sofa, velvet drapes with lace back curtains, a mahogany fireplace with marble tile inlay & finally tin ceilings with gold and chrystal chandeliers.
Hi Becca! I really appreciate that you don't repeat the same cliche topics as other UA-camrs. That's why I'm hoping you could do a sensible video on lighting design. While we all know the basic rules, many people, including myself, still struggle to create stunning lighting that serves all functions at home. The challenge I'm facing is how to balance a classic style with sufficient, functional lighting that adapts to changes in daylight, without relying on ceiling fixtures, which I dislike. In my first apartment, I've experimented with RGBW LED strips on open shelving between my kitchen and living room, which looks fabulous and is programmed to adjust throughout the day. I also use RGBW bulbs in the bedroom for a sunrise effect, along with blackout curtains, so I can wake up at desired time, same for all year round. I went with classic ceiling lighting in the offices and the living room, and it turned out awful, made the rooms look shorter; in the living room the bulbs had to be decorative so it's just one bright tone (it's useful, like twice a year).. In the office despite having 3 hue bulbs it's still not enough lighting. In the living room, for the bright light usually I use strong LEDs for my curtains, it's enough for 99% time. There's additional lighting and the shelves so that's mostly used in the evenings. So, I'm struggling to create strong, evenly distributed lighting that isn't creepy or mismatched with a classic aesthetic. I've thought about it so many times and went through so many standard possibilities.... Recessed lights, in particular, look awful and don't fit with classical styles, which is another challenge. I tried to come up with something with LED stripes that would be hidden somehow, but that's not easy to find affordable RGBWs that would be bright enough. I even considered molding that can hide a strip, that would illuminate a white ceiling... This is especially difficult in rooms like the bathroom, where dark walls make it even harder. While I use a Philips Hue flush mount in one bathroom, which is functional and adaptable to different times of day, it's far from aesthetically pleasing. With LED strips, to get the strong light and at the same time atmospheric light, I guess you'd have to use 2 strips alternatively, or buy a lot of them and hide them behind some kind of diffuser. I was even thinking if there are stretched ceilings that could diffuse the light and just make a "bright ceiling" effect, looking like a normal matte ceiling during the day but this might come out very cheap looking. Same as my brilliant idea to use recessed lights but DIY them to resemble 4-legged stars haha Still researching the reflected lights (on the ceiling, or in the mirrors). Could you offer some advice or create content around achieving strong, stylish lighting that works for various needs and classical styles? Do you have any creative ideas how to tackle that, or know anyone else who'd talk about this? I'm looking for lighting solutions that maximize elasticity in their use, like I mentioned switching between bright and evening lights. And how to get the perfect lighting for makeup that doesn't look like crap in a vintage home. I've always decorated my spaces similarly to what you'd call dark academia, not that rich, a bit simpler, but same foundation. You're totally right that scattered dimmed lighting works, but it works for aesthetics... not for all lifestyle cases:D Thank you!
If you REALLY want good lighting, skip the (bad for you, actually) LEDs altogether and go back to incandescent. And layer your lighting. Lamps, sconces, *nice* ceiling fixtures that fit your desired style, etc.
“think fire hazard but make it cute”. 😅😅😅. OMG! Funny. I have been loving your content! I also love organic modern and definitely some vintage.
