Really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing :) Elena Knows is definitely my favourite of the longlist; such a brilliant book (though I've yet to read Paradais!) xx
So great to wake up to a 50 min vlog. Love in the Big City has now moved up on my list. Heaven sounds like a difficult read, but its still on my list. Hope you get some sun back. Snow in April is just not ok.
You made me want to read THEM ALL!!! I’m really excited by the International Booker this year. I was last year but this year like PROPER into it. He says having read none. Ha. Also was this a reading Vlog or Master Chef? Check out that risotto and that vodka pasta. Delish.
I have Elena Knows and Love In The Big City. Excited to get to both. Removed Cursed Bunny from my TBR after seeing a number of people saying it was just weird haha. Loved seeing your opinions as always 🥰
so far I've read Elena Knows, Heaven, and Cursed Bunny off the long list and they've all been five stars for me! I'm about to start Paradais and hopefully get to Love in the Big City soon. 2022 has been a good year for short story collections for me lol I read Lily King's new collection and Cursed Bunny back to back !!
🤣When I read Head, I almost fainted from discomfort but excitement! I really enjoyed it and you’re right, it does make a weird commentary on the ageism.
ah! this was so fun!! i haven't read cursed bunny yet but i have read the other four. paradais was my first melchor and i loved it! such great writing!! i really hope elena knows makes it to the shortlist. i have a feeling that the bigger books will make it to the shortlist though.
@@kiranreader YES! Do you a booktube? I need to know what you think when you read it Ps: I just saw you do have a booktube and I subscribed! Going to binge your intl Booker prize reading vlogs
You made me want to read Love in the Big City 👀 probs will do it soon. Heaven sounds interesting too, but reading about bullying is a bit triggering for me. I really enjoyed Elena Knows too, Claudia Piñeiro is one of the most popular authors here in Argentina.
Those envelopes with the fluff are the worst! I've read Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami and loved it so I really want to read everything else she has written.
I have Elena Knows and just ordered Cursed Bunny, not sure it will be for me but want to give it a try. I’m trying to read the women’s prize long list though, so these will have to wait for now. I didn’t realise the shortlist would be out so soon for these!
I am reading Heaven. I finished Paradais yesterday. She is such an interesting writer isn’t she? I literally could not put that book down but I agree that Hurricane Season was the better book but probably just because the length gave more depth. I have ordered Elena knows and The Book of Mother which I hope to read before the shortlist is announced. I too am staying away from those hefty ones. 😀
You might like Ariana Harwicz, who is available through Charco Press. She has a loose trilogy; Die, my love, Feeble-minded & Tender. Her writing is like Melchor, 1st person & hypnotising & take u places you don't want to go, but you are buckled in for the ride. Each story deals with themes of motherhood, parental love from a disator woman perspective.
Excited to hear your thoughts on Cursed Bunny as it's a new all-time favourite of mine!! Such a unique portrayal on the real horrors in society, tho I'm very aware its weirdness won't be everyone's cup of tea hahaha 😅
I bought Elena Knows after seeing Jen rave about it - excited to get to it. I think the others are a bit too violent/scary for me - such a wimp! I was in Waterstones today & bought the Ruth Ozeki in paperback. Was hoping the Meg Mason would be out a bit early in paperback as it's on the long list but no - typical. I'll have to go in again & we both know that's dangerous!
If you love run-on sentences, maybe you'd enjoy José Saramago's books. He's a portuguese Nobel Prize Winner (I'm portuguese as well, so obviously I have to give him a shout when appropriate) that writes like that and I really have enjoyed what I've read by him, tho I'm not sure how much is lost in translation. If you feel like checking him out, I'd recommend Death With Interruptions (my personal fave) or Blindness (his most well-known work, also amazing).

Thank you! Really enjoyed watching yours too and seeing your thoughts as we read a few of the same xxx

Yeah I would say that Heaven is very intense in terms of the bullying. Ooh that’s cool I’m definitely going to read more from her 😊
loved the long vlog! i bought heaven a while ago and am excited to get to it

I’ve been meaning to read Blindness for yeeeears so I should definitely pick it up soon. Thank you!
Gotta say I haven’t seen a single review of Bunny that’s made me want to read it 😂
Haha fair!
