I finished Night Crawling last week. It’s soooooo jaw dropping - devastating and gorgeous. Shot right up to the top of my best of the year list so far.
I was sent an early copy of Booth and completely ignored it BUT I picked up after the Longlist was announced and gave it 5 stars. Absolutely brilliant!!
I’ve read 4, The Colony, Maps of our Spectacular Bodies, Oh William and Small Things Like These. I enjoyed all of them but Small Things was 5 ⭐️ for me. I have 4 more coming in the post and I’m looking forward to them all, especially After Sappho ( I’m obsessed with Virginia Woolf).
Another recommendation for you is Foster by Claire Keegan It’s now been made into an Irish language film called The Quiet Girl and tipped for Oscar nomination
This is the first longlist that has grabbed my attention in a while and I've just requested it all from the library (I think I'm the first in the queue!)
I've read Booth - really enjoyed it. I'm a bit of a American history/politics nut so it was very much a must read for me. Absolutely fascinating family. The Trees, and Glory are on my to be read list, and I'm just about to finish Small Things Like These.
I really enjoyed Olive Kitteridge too. I read it for a book club a few years ago and everyone else hated it, so that was an interesting discussion. it's so nice to see Alan Garner making an appearance, he was my absolute favourite as a kid and I still have a lot of old copies of his books lying around somewhere. definitely going to read Case Study, The Trees, Nightcrawling and Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies. I have the most beautiful indie bookshop edition of Maps on my shelves all ready to go, I'd been saving it for Booker season with a sneaky suspicion that it would make the longlist. the others I'm not so enthused about - Booth definitely sounds like the last thing I'm ever likely to pick up, and historically I don't get along with things set from the perspective of animals, so Glory is probably a bit of a long shot for me as well. looking forward to some GK x Booker vlogs! ❤️
Super excited that it's Booker season, and we'll see how many of these I can get through! I've only read The Trees, but had 4 more already on my TBR - which is unusual, because Booker usually catches me out with it's picks!! Hoping that's a sign of some good reading coming up!
Would love to watch a vlog for the books you're most excited to read (probably the ones you already own) and then one for the shortlist, assuming there are multiple books on the shortlist that you won't have read yet. To be honest, I'll watch anything you post 😅
I had read three before the long list was announced, Small Things Like These, The Colony and Case Study. The first two were five star reads, the third I liked but didn't love (though His Bloody Project was also a five star read for me). The Trees is the one I'm most excited about, but I'm also very curious about the two I hadn't heard of (Seven Moons and Treacle), and I'm currently reading Booth, which won't be a favorite, but I'm enjoying the story, and listening to Nightcrawling, which I wasn't that excited about, but I'm liking more and more.
I've just ordered After Sappho too - intrigued by it. I loved the Claire Keegan but thought it would be too short for the prize - glad it made it. There are no copies of The Trees available!! Hope they get that sorted now that it's on the list. It was one of the Booth family who famously assassinated President Lincoln while he was at the theatre so I might have to pick that one up too. And yes to as many Booker reading vlogs as you fancy making!!
I'm really excited about this list, particularly because so many of them are SHORT. I've not read any but I have scoured my library for them and have sourced all of them except After Sappho and Seven Moons. I hope I enjoy them!
Loved this video and hearing your thoughts! I’m definitely excited for this long list and have requested several from the library. Would love to see reading vlogs for the long list!
The Trees is absolutely brilliant! I also loved Small Things Like These. Both absolutely 5 star books. I have Case Study, Nightcrawling, The Colony, and Glory already, so I’ll start with those. I actually instantly fell for the cover of Treacle Walker and bought it. 😂 I’m really, really intrigued by Seven Moons and that cover is 😍. I have way too many books unread here already, but I will probably succumb to this one. Love the 💅!
I like the idea of multiple vlogs. I’ve only read one, the Claire Keegan, which I thought was okay (I’m in the minority, everyone seems to love it). I’ve ordered Nightcrawling and downloaded 3 on Scribd then I’ll see where I go from there.
I'm SO excited for The Seven Moons. Sounds like exactly my type of read and I hadn't heard of it. Also wanting to read Trust and the Claire Keegan. Loved The Trees. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on all the books once read!
Loved the joy of your response. Middle interested made me lol. Can’t believe an author on the list in TWENTY ONE years younger than me. That should be illegal.
The only one I've read is Small Things Like These... and I don't get it, hah. I think I want to pick up Trust, Glory (animal farm vibes??), The Trees, and Nightcrawling. I live in the Oakland area and remember the events that inspired that book!
Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and reactions, quite a good sounding list. I think Glory is being slightly mis-marketed, a lot is being said about animal and Animal Farm, but it is actually just a really good political satires, very funny, very critical of government and it manages to be critical of Zimbabwe without talking up the West. I really liked it.
Yey! You're vlogging the whole longlist. 💜 maybe 3 books per vlog? You have enough time before the shortlist and you read pretty fast anyway! Can't wait to hear what you think of After Sappho and Case Study 😊
I loved Small Things Like These, and I think you will too. I highly recommend the audiobook. I'm most excited about The Colony, The Trees and Nightcrawling 💫
I bought Booth on the day it was released but then DNF’ed it more than half way through… I didn’t get what the story the author tries to tell. But I’ll give it another go now that it’s on the long list.
No spoilers, but Booth is based on someone infamous in US history and you probably already know what the terrible and violent act is that’s mentioned in the blurb lol
Soooo true about that Toddler, ya know! I'm pissed off...but I'm gonna read her work and hope she fricking makes the shortlist and then...yeah, we'll see if the Toddler must win!?!?!? 😹😻😹😻👍

Omg I can’t wait!!!

I love how none of us are too keen on Booth which makes me think that it's definitely going to be shortlisted 😂 the universe will do that to you.
Hahaha so true
Your nail colour is everything!!!
Thank you!!
Another recommendation for you is
Foster by Claire Keegan
It’s now been made into an Irish language film called The Quiet Girl and tipped for Oscar nomination
Glory was very powerful, searing satire of contemporary Zimbabwean politics, so glad to see it on the longlist.
This is the first longlist that has grabbed my attention in a while and I've just requested it all from the library (I think I'm the first in the queue!)
Haha yes get straight on it!

Yeah I thought Olive was universally loved but a few people have said they didn’t like it. Justice for Olive! 🫒 and thank you! Xx
Super excited that it's Booker season, and we'll see how many of these I can get through! I've only read The Trees, but had 4 more already on my TBR - which is unusual, because Booker usually catches me out with it's picks!! Hoping that's a sign of some good reading coming up!
I know I was surprised by how many I actually knew!
Would love to watch a vlog for the books you're most excited to read (probably the ones you already own) and then one for the shortlist, assuming there are multiple books on the shortlist that you won't have read yet. To be honest, I'll watch anything you post 😅
This is a good idea! And thank you!! 💞

Wow you’ve read loads!

Oh that’s a shame hopefully they restock The Trees soon! And lol that I completely had no idea about the Booth connection 😆
Looking like some of these books suggestions will be on my tbr list
I'm really excited about this list, particularly because so many of them are SHORT. I've not read any but I have scoured my library for them and have sourced all of them except After Sappho and Seven Moons. I hope I enjoy them!
I know haha so nice when there’s some short ones! Hope you enjoy them too ☺️
love your nails!!! i'm very excited for case study
Thank you!!
I haven't read any of these but I'm most interested in Nightcrawling, Small Things Like These, Glory and The Trees
Loved this video and hearing your thoughts! I’m definitely excited for this long list and have requested several from the library. Would love to see reading vlogs for the long list!

Haha I know I already can tell I’ll buy more 😆 and thank you!!
😀💕xx thanks so much. Really interesting to hear your thoughts. Most of the books I’m very excited to read.

Thank you!!
i read nightcrawling this month and it was amazing! i think you will really love it 🥰 I love the idea of having multiple vlogs for the longlist!!
Thank you!!
It took me a disgustingly long time to realise Booth would be about John William Booth. Time to return my history degree
Wilkes Booth, haha
@@glitterary3411 right I’m a disgrace. My degree fully wasn’t worth it.
This comment is how I discovered it hahaaa
I'm SO excited for The Seven Moons. Sounds like exactly my type of read and I hadn't heard of it. Also wanting to read Trust and the Claire Keegan. Loved The Trees. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on all the books once read!
Seven Moons sounds really fun and I looove the cover. Thank you!!
Loved the joy of your response. Middle interested made me lol. Can’t believe an author on the list in TWENTY ONE years younger than me. That should be illegal.
ILLEGAL behaviour!
very excited about the reading of these! and your vlogs however you do it
Thank you!!
So many to add to my TBR!
The only one I've read is Small Things Like These... and I don't get it, hah. I think I want to pick up Trust, Glory (animal farm vibes??), The Trees, and Nightcrawling. I live in the Oakland area and remember the events that inspired that book!
Oh that’s really interesting re Nightcrawling

Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and reactions, quite a good sounding list.
I think Glory is being slightly mis-marketed, a lot is being said about animal and Animal Farm, but it is actually just a really good political satires, very funny, very critical of government and it manages to be critical of Zimbabwe without talking up the West. I really liked it.
Thank you! Yeah Animal Farm sprang to mind immediately but I wasn’t sure if that was the vibe. Definitely sounds interesting!
Yey! You're vlogging the whole longlist. 💜 maybe 3 books per vlog? You have enough time before the shortlist and you read pretty fast anyway! Can't wait to hear what you think of After Sappho and Case Study 😊
As much as I can! And thank you so much ☺️
I’d advise The Colony & Small Things Like These on audio. That way you get the humour and the nuances of language.
I loved Small Things Like These, and I think you will too. I highly recommend the audiobook. I'm most excited about The Colony, The Trees and Nightcrawling 💫
Thank you!
Keen for The Trees by Percival Everett
I’ve not read any of these going to get some xx
Nightcrawling is fantastic,I think it will win. I must read The Colony.
I bought Booth on the day it was released but then DNF’ed it more than half way through… I didn’t get what the story the author tries to tell. But I’ll give it another go now that it’s on the long list.
I liked Booth alot. The fact that is about the whole family made it very interesting to me. Also it is well written.
Interesting! I’ve defo heard mixed things about Booth
No spoilers, but Booth is based on someone infamous in US history and you probably already know what the terrible and violent act is that’s mentioned in the blurb lol
Haha yeah I was a bit slow on the uptake with that one as the comments have revealed 😂
Rooting for The Trees. It's outstanding.
Can’t wait to read it!
love this 💞
I haven’t read any of these. I’ll be relying on you telling me which ones I’ll like 😂
Hahaa I got you!
Soooo true about that Toddler, ya know! I'm pissed off...but I'm gonna read her work and hope she fricking makes the shortlist and then...yeah, we'll see if the Toddler must win!?!?!? 😹😻😹😻👍
You must read Nightcrawling, it’s an astonishing achievement
I think I’ll be picking it up as soon as it arrives!
Booth is the only one I'd read before the list dropped and one of the most forgettable books I read last year. lol
Loool yeah I’m not overly hyped for that one
