With quality control all over the map with so many makers these days, you've got to know the current status of your gun before you tear into it for any reason.

Wise words there. Other than sights I prefer stock guns, with an occasional trigger upgrade when needed.

Just sent this to my buddy Jim. He’s the mad scientist of guns, he modifies all pistols prior to shooting.

Totally agree. I’ve seen put a dot on before shooting the gun, then say the gun isn’t reliable, then take the dot off and say that wasn’t the reason. Meanwhile the screws went in too deep and damaged the strike assembly. I do the same thing as you. As it comes from the factory I go take to the range and get a baseline.

I had to cut a sliver of brass shimstock to put under the loose rear site on a new colt pistol to tighten it up because I didn’t want to send it back, is my unapproved modification.
(The ‘Wyoming Sight Drifter’ tool made me realize why I needed that tool in my gun-tool kit….. I hadn’t had it very long when I needed it……. kinda made me want to go around and shake everyone’s hand like I’d hit the lottery)

All excellent points. Let’s be honest, not many designs outside of the 1911 lend themselves to improved performance by simply changing parts. I’m talking specifically about MIM parts in 1911’s. Fortunately most tool steel/bar stock replacement parts require at least some fitting, so the kitchen table hacks with a Dremel end up ruining guns pretty easily which is mildly amusing. While I definitely agree with the premise of your video, as a 1911 hobbyist, there’s something to be said for making your project gun the very best it can possibly be. Excellent videos, really digging your channel.

Very good advice. I worked on a 1911 to lighten up the trigger watching a couple of UA-cam videos. I've learned a lot watching videos and its been very helpful. Thanks Slim.

Words of wisdom. I have a Kimber Custom 2 1911. After I got it I started reading about how bad of a gun it was. Guess what? It’s run perfect for me…no mods. I’m not gonna do anything to it other than shoot it and enjoy it. Thanks for this video.

I never buy a first generation release pistol. I wait at least a year for all the bugs to get worked out. Love your content man!

Thanks man. I do the same thing. I wait for about a year also. Which also lets the hype die down along with the price.

Sage advice Matt. Enjoying these "Gun Room" videos. Big fan of if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Other than maybe a few of mine having after market grips and sights, they are factory original. The exception being and this won't be a surprise to you, my Colt Government 38 Super. Talk about disappointment. Sigh. Anyway to much to go into on here. Short version is found an awesome local gunsmith and he made it right. I'll have to send you a picture of it and a list of what was done to it. Again Matt really enjoying these videos. Kinda reminds me of conversations at The Range talking bout cars, trucks WWII planes, girls and well guns!

I prefer to shoot first, just to see what is working or problems. Would you consider a mainspring housing change , front flat to arched, ok or shoot first ?

I watch your channel in part cause it reminds me of home. I pretty sure I have a good idea were your at, except for you seem to have too many days with little wind😮

Oh it’s been windy as hell the last couple of days. I just make it a point to run out and film as much as I can before the wind picks up. 🤣
