I’ve just ordered a pair of in the ear Insio AX aids. I’ll let you know what I think in a couple of weeks when I get them. I certainly haven’t ordered black!!
I’m a difficult case as I’m severe to Profound with no high frequency above 1000hz. I’ve just rejected a pair of BHE Phonak aids. I’m used to in the ear.
I’ve been wearing mine for three weeks now. These are my thoughts: The audiologist almost gave up on me. She was trying to give me something that I haven’t got: high frequency response. Consequently voices came across as tinny and distorted. In the end I suggested she cut off all the response of anything over about 1000 hz. Naturally she objected, but it solved the problem. The next thing is, with Phonak hearing aids you can use the buttons to control both volume and channel selection. The audiologist said you can’t do that with these aids, and she didn’t recommend the remote. Consequently I have to use my phone app to make any channel changes because the buttons have been set for volume up on the left aid, and down for the right aid. This becomes a pain in the butt if I’m watching TV while using the TV streamer and want to go to the kitchen for whatever. If my wife wants to converse with me I’m stuck with the TV sounding off in my lug holes. And I can’t do a thing about it other than traipsing back to the lounge to get my phone! The next thing is, the TV streamer doesn’t turn on automatically when you turn on the TV. That’s means I have to go back to my phone to change to the TV channel. The Phonak streamer turns on automatically. I was under the impression there are six channels to select from. On my old Phonak Bolero’s I’ve only ever used the music channel. I found it much better than the auto setting or anything else for that matter. I told the Audio girl this so she replaced speech in echo and speech in noise for recorded music and live music. When I asked her why I can’t also have the previous two as well she replied that she couldn’t do that. Finally both aids have been moulded with flat ends, not rounded or tapered. This can cause discomfort if you push them in too hard. I don’t know why but they did. Oh, and to add to my confusion I’ve heard Signia have a new range coming out this year.. However, I still have about 40 days to decide what to do.
Great video DAve. I'm used to a Jabra earbud unit stuffed in my ear all day anyway so I think this would be an awesome replacement for that while taking care of my bluetooth needs as well as hearing loss issues.
Thanks for the informative video Dave. Im currently using Silk -- Bluetooth and all that tech is not important to me, only important is speech quality. If you can put a ratio on the different of the quality Silk and C&G AX delivers, how much better is C&G AX at speech quality and reducing backround noise? Thanks !
Boom, that’s a great question! Thank you, Thomas. This will be a rule of thumb and depend greatly on your hearing loss, but I'll try to help you here. Basically, as the C&G is a RIC hearing aid, it will sound more natural for high-frequency hearing loss because you can have an open fitting there. Even if you fit the Silk with vented domes, the ear canal will never be as open as with the C&G. Also, the C&G has four directional microphones, which leads to improved directional hearing. Although the Silk sits deep in the ear canal and can benefit from the Pinna Effect, the C&G will be the more beneficial device for many kinds of hearing loss. There is no huge difference when it counts to filtering out background noise. But the Silk is much better when it comes to noise in windy situations. So if you are looking for a 1-10 rating I would put the Silk to 7.5 and the C&G to 9. That’s only my personal opinion and again, depends highly on your hearing loss. Hope that helps! Best, Dave
Correct me if I am wrong, I believe the model in your ear is the ITE model. There is a smaller model ITC. Both are custom made. If this model is the ITC smaller one, then the larger one would be huge and hang out of your ear, would it not?
Hi Dave, this video was informative. I have moderate severe hearing loss bilateral and I am using resound quattro 5 RIC rechargeable, Wanted to upgrade to CIC:ITC/IIC which would be best option. I would be fine without Bluetooth connectivity. Is there any rechargeable CIC option available
Hi Sahil, Thank you for the great question. There are some CIC/ITC hearing aids out there that I can recommend. As always, the size of the hearing aid depends on your hearing loss and the size/shape of your ear canal. The last very small hearing aid that I've made a good experience with was a Phonak Virto-M. It was very small although the ear canal was very tiny. You can get the Phonak Virto with a Titanium body which makes it even a little bit smaller. This IIC has a size 10 battery, so this is something to consider. There is no rechargeability or Bluetooth with this device. Lately, I've also seen some pretty small CICs from ReSound. Also, these devices are not rechargeable and you have to live without a direct Bluetooth connection if you want a really small hearing aid. Hope that helps! Best, Dave
I have Signia Insio 3AX, but they don't turn on automatically when taken out, and they don't turn off automatically after being put back in their place. Is that normal, Dave?
Hello and thank you for your comment. Usually the Insio Charge&Go should turn off automatically when put in the charger. If this doesn't work you should see your local hearing professional to let him check the devices and the charger. Here is the Signia video about turning the devices on and off: ua-cam.com/video/Ns4YOfHAn_o/v-deo.html Best, Dave
Is it true that if the charger is not plugged into the power, the automatic shut-off system won't work? They gave me that reason. Am I being misled by them? Also, when the charger is fully charged and we turn off the power to the charger, does the hearing aid device inside the charger suddenly turn on without us taking it out from its place, even without opening the charging case? Please let me know..
@@karistha yes that’s true. The charger can only work as intended when plugged in. Otherwise the hearing aids “don’t know” that they are in the charger and will turn on. It will the the best to keep the charger plugged in when the hearing aids are in it, even if they are already fully charged. Don’t worry, that won’t hurt the hearing aids. Best, Dave
Thanks for your replies Dave.. I've sent an email to signia but they didn't give me an answer for these questions. You are more helpful than them. Have a nice day Dave..
I have had these hearing aids for about a month, have sent them back because of them randomly dropping Bluetooth and the right ear connection. Sadly they came back with the same issues and then a Signia representative explained to me that there is an iPhone issue that is causing the problems and no fix is in sight. Bluetooth is very important to me so I am going to try the over the ear style.
Thank you for sharing your experience Christine. Although I’m not sure why Signia won’t fix the iPhone issue I strongly believe that the Behind The Ear style will work great for you. Best, Dave
Im looking for hearing aids as a younger person im looking into something that looks more like headphones and less like my grandpas hearing helpers lol the insio ax are cool
Thank you for your comment, I can totally relate to that 😄 Yes they are pretty cool. However, please also consider trying the Signia Active (Pro). They also have an earbud design, are rechargeable and connect to your smartphone, but they are way smaller.
Hi, there are different speakers that are permissible, but it depends on the hearing loss and on the size of the ear canal if this hearing aid is a good fit or not. Your hearing professional can recommend the right solution for you. Also when it comes to fitting hearing aids for children, you should consider going for a RIC hearing aid. That's because children are growing (fast) and the ear canal also changes with their growth and adjusting an ITE to the changing ear canal every few months might get pretty costly. Best, Dave
Hi Baris, that’s a great question. Silk has not yet two processors, as they are only available with the X platform. Two processor sound processing starts with the AX chip. Best, Dave

Better Signia insio o signia active pro?
Both are top-notch hearing devices. However, I prefer the Signia Active Pro because of the smaller size.
