      Edit: Oh no!!!! Pat Torpy died .. why hadn't i heard this before .. the band of brothers ... R.I.P. Pat

    No matter how long or how good you are, Paul Gilbert has such a great way to make you feel enthusiastic about playing again, no matter how "beginner" it may seem. Reinforcing the idea of fun and fundamentals can be so transforming for players of all skill levels. Always glad to see more PG videos!

    Absolutely, hands down, the greatest guitar teacher there is, and has been, since the 80's. While there are greater players-not many(Holdsworth, DiMeola, Morse)-there is simply no one that even comes close to his ability to not only teach advanced concepts to the novice, but eliminate their fear of the instrument.
    I always go back to him when I get in a rut, and he always pulls me out.

    • @MrRockNRoll
      @MrRockNRoll 6 років тому +2

      I'm assuming no, its a strip just big enuff /strong enuff to just hold the slide and no have an adverse effect on the pups. I've been trying to find an article or anything where PG might talk about or mention this, no luck so far. I'd be willing to try this on my own axes to see how it works.

    • @mikeymike4g63
      @mikeymike4g63 6 років тому +1

      Well, where the slide meets the gaffer's tape (magnet) is a very round surface so the magnet is going to have a hard time clinging to it, it needs to be fairly strong to hold the slide. Strong magnets can harm pickup gauss charges: www.strat-talk.com/threads/things-we-all-do-that-degauss-your-pickups.211370/page-5#post-1173268

    I also appreciate telling us that we do need the elephant skin built up, through the endless practice.
    I re-started learning the guitar after 10 years of break. and I'm in much better position right now, thanks to the honest and not stingy masters like Paul Gilbert.

      It does sound dental related although wealthy people usually get vaneeres (not dentures) which wouldn't cause the lisp. Also, I have tinnitus and it wouldn't change the way he speaks. There's something going on with his mouth or speech as you can look back to videos from the 90's and 2000's and he doesn't have it.

      Josh Brown I was wondering the same. My first thought was something mental, but that would affect his playing or his word choice/fluidity. I'm guessing it's some dental work. Denture, retainer, pallet expander. He's had hearing issues for a while, so I wouldn't expect that to suddenly make him slur a bit.

      I've been noticing this for years, getting progressively more noticeable. I think it's his ears; if you've ever heard someone speak who lost their hearing many years ago, they tend to have this sort of slur happening.

      I noticed that as well like speaking with a lisp.

      I'm surprised that magnet doesn't mess with the pickup. It seems it would have to be pretty powerful to hold that heavy slide in place, especially if standing up and rocking out!

      He should stick to shredding which is his strong point. Blues playing takes finess. He plays too stiff, with no phrasing dynamics. Amazing technical musician though.

      Edgar Gomez isn’t he just showing an example of a bad vibrato?

      Mike Albert agreed. I’m PG biggest fan and I’m not afraid to admit his blues stuff is too staccato-pentatonic-escue. Check his playing with Andy Timmons at NAMM you’ll see what I mean.

      Have to agree. Paul is very personable and likable and very accomplished with the guitar but I just don’t care for shredding, not my thing, can’t do it don’t like listening to it. He’s not the one to be showing ppl how to play blues licks.

    People with his talent and skill are not usually such gifted and generous teachers. He actually makes me want to start practicing again. We keep what we have by giving it away.
