Miniature Roses in Watercolor: 30 Minute Painting Lesson with Angela Fehr

- Painting flowers in watercolor is one of my favorite ways to become a better watercolor painter. I have the freedom to grow my composition skills, play with intuitive washes of color, wet in wet, and develop my personal style in a way that feels natural to me. And it's just really fun!
In this lesson that originally aired as part of my Heart-Led Artist Membership, I demonstrate how a cheap grocery store bouquet can inspire all kinds of painting breakthroughs. Paint along with me in real-time as I demonstrate this loose and fluid watercolor technique.

I watched this video when I was feeling very low due to family illness. I must say it was food for the soul. Thank you so much.
That’s what I want to enjoy the freedom of watercolor! 😊
Your joy is infectious!
Thank you, thank you what a wonderful techniques you shared. Starting all your paintings in a v shape. I can't tell you how much that has changed my approach to painting a bouquet of flowers. That technique gave me a solid structure. Your work is stunning.
I have watched this three times already. I will try something similar. But it sure is relaxing just watching this one too.
Oh my....I am so happy I found your channel, Angela! ....Love love love....from a fellow Canadian...big HUGZ your way! XOXO You can guarantee I will be binging on your videos very soon...You are a breath of fresh air, and I look forward to you keeping me company in the studio as I work!...Sincerely, Nicole :)
Amazing that she explains things so............well!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the flow of colors, but even more, your appreciation for the joy a few moments of paint on paper can bring and sharing that with us. It doesn't have to be perfect if you can enjoy it's beauty. THANK YOU
So lovely - thank you very much for sharing this with us 😊.
This is so very beautiful - tender, tranquil and dreamy. Stunning!!!
Wow, Angela, this is so very beautiful! Thank you for walking us through your process and how you think of the shapes
Such a gorgeous painting, Angela Fehr. It seemed like magic when you 'pulled' these glowing roses out of seemingly nowhere. Your teaching is perfect and I love how you tell us what is going through your head. Thank you very much, Angela!
Very nicely painted .. what a control on water color gr8 job !!
Thanks for helping us see the slowness and the “Zen” of watching the paint. I always think to be more loose I have to rush and be faster at painting. But you made the lightbulb come on for me! Well done!
Thank you for this inspiring approach.
On my way to the grocery to buy a bouquet , you have inspired me once again! Beautiful🌹
Just beautiful.
Yay you're back! I've so missed your painting videos!!!

Beautiful. Thank you so much for the lesson . Happy to see you back too
I am so amazed with the results you get. Please post more tutorials, if time allows of course!
This is the most beautiful painting to me, since Ive been watching you. You have a special way of seeing into your paintings, then bringing
that vision to the viewer.
Just beautiful Angela, well done.
I’ve just discovered your site. I love your work and your instruction is absolutely incredible. Thank you
Thank you! Welcome!
Absolutely stunning!!! I so much enjoyed watching and listening. 💕
I’m excited to see a floral again.
Love your loose paintings. So soft and pretty.
Beautiful Angela, thank you for such a beautiful tutorial.
Nice to have you back! Miss you....lovely painting!!!
Thanks for the inspirational video. I had aureolin on my pallette but didn't realize how contaminated I had let it get till I saw yours. I gave myself some fresh paint! Wow, what a great color especially with the Cascade Green and I did use the Opera Rose!😊 I can't resist that color!
Cascade Green (PBr7 PB15) is a cool, dark, mossy green named after the Cascade Mountains. This product has superb lightfastness and a beautiful clarity when used as a wash.
Love your process. Always enjoy watching your videos.
Absolutely gorgeous! So soft and beautiful. Well done. 😃 Francis
Beautiful. 💕
Absolutely glorious, Angela❤️ Thank you for sharing and explaining your methods so well. I'm in awe of how beautifully you blend the paints with such a large amounts of water! I'm new to art and love playing with my Aussie Red Gold, Cascade Green and a few other lovely Daniel Smith colours - I've waited many decades to be able to do so. There'll be more water going on my paper tomorrow😃
Beautiful delicate glow!!!
Beautiful and inspirational... ! I'm on a mission to learn to paint roses this year and this was so helpful.
Very very beautiful !!!
Beautiful Angela you really painted this so well, love that you can share your expertise in this cascade of colour, thankyou.
So beautiful with an old world feel..
Awesome video. I have 1 Lebenzon brush. Wish I could afford more. Beautiful brushes.
Feeling kinda down today--this was a beautiful meditative inspirational moment for me (my kitty liked to chase your brush, too :) thank you 🙏
Very interesting!
Awesome roses artwork dear art friend, l really like it...👨🏻🎨🖼👍
Thank you,,,so much information 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Cascade green is made with two pigments & One of my favorites! I was raised along Cascade mountains here in Oregon USA. I have to change my painting style because of painful arthritis in my drawing hand. Thanks for inspiring me. I was really going to quit painting because of the pain. Its the drawing and being a portrait artist that is getting hard.
Thank you!
I really love the way you paint - allowing the paint to move but also controlling it when necessary. Do you ever paint animals?
Nice 👍
❤
When will there be an opening in the Heart-Led course and community? I would really like to join the community.
This was really beautiful ❤️ would it be possible for you to offer alternative colours as I don’t have some of these? Many thanks
❤️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I LOVE your Palette! What do you have? Is it the Robax 64 Color Well? Awesome!
I have to remember these words “I’m just making pretty shapes and if they disappear and turn into mud. that’s my gift for today.” For us that love painting but don’t come up with masterpieces everyday.
Could you give me the info on the brush you’re using here! I want one!! Thx!
Lovely! Thanks Angela for inspiring us with your beautiful roses. Just wondering which Lebenzon brush you are using? Thanks!

Beautiful work! But Whoa! Where on earth did you hear that Holbein Bright Rose is a more lightfast version of Opera pink? Not true. For one Holbein doesn't call it Opera Pink. Just Opera. And its much more lightfast then their Bright Rose because it has some actual lightfast magenta pigment in it. Just like Winser & Newton Opera Rose that also contains PR122, a lightfast Magenta Holbein Opera has the same. Holbein's Bright Rose has no actual pigment in it. Just straight florescent dye "BV11:1-Fluorescent Blue-Violet BV11:1" that will fade to nothing. Their Opera is made with mostly PR122 "a Quinacridone Magenta" with a the florescent dye "BV10-Rhodamine b" added. All florescent dyes are fugitive. With the Holbein Opera, the color will change to the soft pink of PR122 when exposed to light too long. The PR122 is what is left after the florescent dye fades. If the paint color comes from 100% florescent dye, nothing is left at all. I admit to being a pigment nerd having studied them for more than 15 years. Thanks for sharing your fantastic skills!
