I am a minimalist and trying my level best to be eco friendly from not using plastics to composting and I haven't found a single person like me in my town and it's not fun without a social group that has your views :(
Very inspiring. I attempted to go 100% zero waste last year for my New Year's resolution. Have to say it is really quite difficult to go 100%, particularly for where I live, in the UK. Firstly there are no bulk stores near me (or very few in the UK from what I've found) so everything comes wrapped in something. So I tried to go for wrappings that were recyclable or biodegradable. Some habits were very hard for me to quit - like buying chocolate and occasional crisps which only comes in disposable wrapping, however I did make a lot of big changes. 1. Using only reusable shopping bags and refusing plastic bags in shops 2. Buying loose fruit and veg from the market (not wrapped in plastic from supermarkets) and also investing in a shopping bag with wheel so that I could make the long walk home from the market with heavy fruit and veg 3. Buying a Mooncup and using reusable sanitary products. 4. Using a reusable water bottle 5. Using washable food containers instead of cling film/plastic food bags (still need to do this more than I do) 6. Buying beauty products from LUSH, who use biodegradable wrapping for toothpaste, and a lot of products with either no packaging (shampoo/conditioner bars) or containers that you take back and they recycle for you (free face mask if you do that!) 7. Composting all my organic waste (in a pit I dug out the back of my house) 8. Collecting random items for my 'art box' full of stuff to be creative with for costumes and decorations Still on the list is to make my own toothpaste, ditch unneccessary products that I cant get in recyclable wrapping, invest in reusable wrapping paper for next Christmas/birthdays!
+Caro Jeffo thanks for watching! It sounds like you've really given zero waste a lot of thought and effort and I'm impressed with all of the changes you've made in your life. I think any waste you divert/avoid sending to the landfill is impressive, even if 100% success is not possible. I know we won't be able to go 100% zero waste because we're always on the road and don't know of all the best places to find bulk food, etc. but I still want to do the best we can. If you're looking for a replacement for plastic cling wrap, you might be interested in this product Mailyne posted about recently. It's reusable beeswax wrap. Really appreciate videos like this and people like her! We work hard to be as low waste as possible in our tiny lifestyle. Thanks to you guys for all of the great content you put out! It's always inspiring.
I LOVE that you created a video on zero-waste. Especially focusing on a zero-waster that I haven't had the pleasure to learn from yet (each zero-waster has a different perspective on the lifestyle according to their life situation obviously). I'll definitely check out her blog. My most recent zero-waster that I love learning from is FortNegrita (she has a blog, website, and a youtube channel). Thanks for the video!
Mailyne, we can all learn from your well directed conviction, you are an inspiration! Exploring alternatives, great job bringing this to us! Unfortunately the world's business model is based on consumption. Change starts with courages individuals wanting to make a positive difference. All the best.
It's a shame how disposable our world is and how much packaging everyday items come wrapped in. Here in China it's really bad, just as an example they wrap apples individually in foam then plastic and then when you buy them they usually use 2 plastic bags to hold the apples because one might break. No one thinks about it.
Atleast the final two bags is in your hands to avoid. Actually you can ditch it whole by buying at the local market. I understand your concern is plastic production & packaging in general, but we can only start with ourselves
Mailyne is so inspiring! Thank you for helping us all be more mindful of our actions. The principle of zero waste is very similar to the net zero energy goal in a home. It is fun and fulfilling. I admire Mailyne very much! A true Earth Mother!
I want to incorporate my 'live with less life' with everything I'm learning at the moment..1:tiny house build, 2: zero waste 3: travel more. 4: vegan for life. Thanks guys.
Ty! This inspires me to go further with my eco preserving lifestyle. I'm a minimalist, but now I'd like to have ZERO WASTE. I recycle and compost, and my daughters love saving the earth too! Great video quality. I appreciate the time you spent to bring the world this message.
Yes. It's very good to know that there's a lot of people trying to do ZERO waste life. As my aunt says, it's not that hard to live life without those unnecessary WANTS. All you have to do is be creative and live life with contentment.
I am so inspired. I'll try my best to reduce plastic at home. thanks...I am so proud to see such human, a real human. I imagine how his son will be raised under such eco friendly teaching. Thanks for sharing. May we all soon start such type of era in future. Amen.
this is awesome, she doesn't seem overzealous or weird about what she does, not everyone who is a hippy is a tye-died pothead and this woman is the perfect example of that. You CAN make small choices to improve the world, improving the world a little is better than not improving it at all.
Reusable shopping bags are so easy. Everyone should do it. I love my Trolley Bags I bought online. Pillow cases for fresh produce is an amazing idea and I will be implementing that one straight away. Thanks for the green inspo

Excellent video! Thank you for sharing you did a great job highlighting her story and I have really enjoyed reading her blog. Really got me thinking about the choices I make on a daily basis. San
Fantastic video. I always find it interesting to see the different aspects of life people choose to concern themselves with tightening up on - some are minimalists, some are zero waste, some are holistic, some are fresh/homemade (toiletries, food, etc) some are completely raw, some are completely off the grid, etc. I'm not sure I could (or want to) go as far as Mailyne does, but her story and this video definitely inspires me to do better when it comes to waste, in addition to adopting the life changes I feel spiritually led to (many of which I listed above). Thank you so much for sharing this! Such a great video. :)
I love y'alls channel! I live in a self-built tiny house so it is always exciting to see videos you two make about alternative housing and as of Jan. 1st I have been attempting to live a zero waste lifestyle. Can't wait for even more videos. :)
Truely inspiring.... I usually carry my own cloth bag for shopping, if the shopkeeper gives me carrybag i will return it....Am using stainless steel and glass containers instead of plastics....
Wow! She is so inspirational. This is a fantastic video to spread the importance of decreasing the amount of waste we create, as the future is truly looking bleak.
She's inspirational and makes me realise how much more I could be doing. I need to change where I shop because so many things come pre-packed these days.
That is pretty impressive, especially given the fact she has a child! I wish the grocery stores in my tiny town had more bulk food options (ok, any). I'm not a zero waste person, but I liked seeing someone else who collects all their jars and keeps reusing them. Imagine if all of us just adopted even one habit she has, how it could help the environment. Thanks for profiling her!
very impressive. I'll work on this lifestyle and reduce waste. I have a weird feeling when I see litter on the floor, or near the sea, I always have to pick t up. I will now recede a lot of my plastic and waste produce. thanks for the amazing and inspiring video.
Trying to do what she has achieve but very difficult, because no store have free packed stuff sold around my area. Thus I try to recycle everything that use or place it in recycle bins. Thanks for tip. My hat's off to the lady for achieve zero waste!
She is so awesome! God bless her and her little one. (: I feel motivated and inspired and try to pursue as much to help our Earth. Come on people! Keep doing your part!
this is the second time a zero waster has mentioned art supplies and both (her and bea) are simply giving up art... i cannot... i simply cannot. it is my passion, my life, my world, my career, my future, my love. this is so frustrating! hearing her say that she will not buy anymore paint/supplies made my heart sink. :(
Obscura x You think Michelangelo shopped at Michael's and used tube paint? Or did he crack eggs and mix it with jars off loose pigment? She's not giving up art, she's going back to basics in my opinion.
ew, michael's lol. and i'm vegan so no eggs for me- i will definitely be looking into making my own supplies, but i worry over the quality of the art piece along with how long it will last without deterioration. famous pieces are continually touched up because of the previous lack of high quality archival supplies. :x
Obscura x well guess got into the woods and pick flower grass & make her own paints like the famous French artist Séraphine Louis she was self taught painter Amazing. In India they make there own colors with different species.
Obscura x yes I just saw a video Zero waste your that lady Bea, who you were talking about she gave away her paints & supplies & made Art from the wax paper the butter was wrapped in Crazy !!! :) in a Cool sir of way If your interested don't know if you have seen the film about that French painter It's called Seárphine really Great Movie:)
+India Crawford-Scott I had the same question. I would probably make some small light cloth bags that I could reuse. Or use the stores plastic bags repeatedly....
You get your jars weighed when they are empty and they'll put a sticker with the weight on it for you. Then they will use that as the tare weight when you check out.
+may mazzi Unfortunately not all stores can do this. My rural small town grocery store's system can't handle a tare weight over .20 lbs which most containers are and the other one can't even do a tare weight at all.
I have so much respect for all of you guys man just being the change you wish to see in the world and being responsible and spreading the message all the while being self sufficient is literally bringing tears of joy to my eyes. I live in school there are alotnof unhappy people j want to live this lifestyle any tips etc for getting started I have no license and not a lot of cash hence I'm 21 but it is inline with my values for nature and respect for people and the earth 🐶🐶🐶🐶
also go vegan. uh bc it's literally the number one ecological thing you can do. the animal agriculture industry is SOOOOO wasteful! it also is killing our planet and ourselves! look up nutritionfacts.org and do some research. it's so easy going vegan too.
We need more people like her. People in my city. TRASH EVERYWHERE! I ran over a lot of bottles while driving on my bike. Tbh you're so beautiful as well as your heart. Recycling a lot of materials :3
I totally agree about reusable water bottles. 18 months ago I got a portable thermos as my water bottle which did cost a bit more at the time but since its costly I take care of it to not loose it and it has actually ended up saving money for me over time. Plus I never bought a water bottle after that and it keeps water at the right temperature for me all the time :)
Some folks in my apartment building can't even put their trash in one of the three dumpsters we have. I live in Chicago and unfortunately apartment buildings are not required to even have recycling. I'd love to see humanity adopt composting in mass numbers. It all starts with us. You've inspired me to start composting this year and to stop putting it off. My birthday is in June so I want to start composting before then. Much
Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing. I'm going to start reading her blog. 🌺 I'd love to adapt to this lifestyle. We really do have too much waste and it puts stress on this planet. It breaks my heart not to have recycling more accessible in my city. I grew up in Santa Cruz CA where recycling is inforced and easily available. I hope my current city can evolve.
Finally got my RV. 25' Born Free 2001. Will be taking short trips till June 1st when I will become full time. So excited. Know it won't be all easy but the adventure is great. :)
Imagine the impact on the world if we were all trying only half as hard as this woman is??
+Heather Snapp it would be incredible!!! Thanks for watching =)
@Heather, it will be a beautiful clean human inhabitable place?

BE AN INDIVIDUAL AND DO YOUR PART. The average person throws out 4lb of trash a day. so think of that per year and go zero wase
this video inspires me. I like how she uses her trash to create art.
+Vegantastic because nothing anybody else does compares to the mighty vegan.
+Vegantastic She probably is vegan..If she buys mostly produce and fills them with her own bags, then why would she buy packaged meat?
+Eleanor dunbar she could personally go to a farmer for meat, dairy and eggs though and just pack it herself...
But the art is beautiful!

Amazing. In India they make there own colors with different species.
laconja1 i will definitely look into it. unfortunately, i live in a desert so i'm not sure how many pigments i can find. :x
Obscura x yes I just saw a video Zero waste your that lady Bea, who you were talking about she gave away her paints & supplies & made Art from the wax paper the butter was wrapped in Crazy !!! :) in a Cool sir of way
If your interested don't know if you have seen the film about that French painter
It's called Seárphine really Great Movie:)
What an inspiration! Thank you for doing what you do!
The best part of living by your beliefs is that it stimulates incredible creativity. This young woman is happier, mpre fulfilled by her lifestyle
You are such an inspiration! Thank you for your daily choices and for documenting your experiences!
I have been trying to reduce my waste, and I am curious about how the store weighs your loose items that you have put in your reusable jars?
+India Crawford-Scott I had the same question. I would probably make some small light cloth bags that I could reuse. Or use the stores plastic bags repeatedly....
Thats a good idea. ;)
+may mazzi what store does that for you? I have never seen that done at any store but I'd like to start it.
this lifestyle is truly amazing. this looks like hard work and rewarding
You are an amazing person! Keep up the good work!! It's an encouragement for us all!!!
Much
We all lived like this once upon a time. Thanks to retail chain we don't see this very rarely.
So happy that one of my favourite zero waste (and fellow Canadian) bloggers was featured on your channel! Loved this video
Really inspiring! I joined plastic free july last year but this is definitely encouring to do more than that!
+Vicina Lucinda Thanks for watching and congrats on being plastic free!! :)
Much respect to her
😊 😊 😊 😊
Awesome job Exploring Alternatives!

Thank you so much. This is a real art,the art of loving nature.
You inspire me. I'll be checking out more on your blog and on this channel.
This is amazing! I repect that fact that you're living your own values.
i could do like 80% but zero is to extreme for me.
That is a great goal!
+KATASTROPHE69S The point is to start to reduce waste and never give up.
+KATASTROPHE69S 80% is also good than nothing
I can do 39%
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
Finally got my RV. 25' Born Free 2001. Will be taking short trips till June 1st when I will become full time. So excited. Know it won't be all easy but the adventure is great. :)
This women needs a UA-cam channel so she could share with us her zero waste recipes!
