    Great video. I’ve been researching rangefinders for a little while today and this is some of the best info I’ve gotten so far. I’m glad you focused on 3 options in detail rather than lining up and blasting through 8-10.
    I was leaning towards the Leopold but was concerned about it not being waterproof, but it seems like that’s not an issue.

      Glad it was helpful! Water doesn't seem to be a problem with that Leupold 1400. I wouldn't dunk it intentionally (again) but I'm not worried about rain or typical hunting wetness.

    Excellent review. Being new to rangefinders and not wanting to spend $$$$ on something that I don't need, this review discussed exactly what I was looking for in a reasonably priced RF. Most likely I will land on the Maven CRF.1. It has a balance of features vs price that will work for me. Thanks for the review.

    I’m entering my fourth year of bow hunting. Spent money on some things and went cheap on other stuff. I got Halo z1100 4years ago and it works great( 160.00$ ) my friend doesn’t laugh at me anymore after he used it.

    I have the Maven C series binos and they are awesome, weird that Maven would not have a custom pouch for their range finders. Pretty sure I'm going for the entry level Maven, cudos to anyone who shoots anything over a 1000yds, not me with my crappy old vision :-)

    I would like to see a comparison of the two during foggy conditions. I got a Broadhead on the way and the only thing that scares me is the FOG. (Basically every morning hunt in the south east)
    Awesome video man. Thanks for going the extra mile, always.

      Great point! Fog is only sometimes an issue when I hunt whitetail in North Idaho but usually not too common here.

    What about the Leupold RX-1600i TBR/W.... as compared to the Mavens? I thank you for producing a very informative/interesting video review.

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  10 місяців тому +2

      Good question! I don't own an RX-1600i, but I have tried one in the store and read other reviews and it appears to be a great unit as well. All the ballistics functions of the 1400 but with better glass, range, and some added weatherproofing. A lot of folks think that one hits the sweet spot and I agree that it's right in there with the Maven CRF.1 on performance. But it's quite a bit more expensive than the Maven and that was the main tie breaker for me. But you can probably find it on sale sometimes for pretty close.

    I had a Leupold and the LED stopped working. I liked it very much, but for the amount of actual time I used, I think it should have lasted longer. I am hesitant to buy another.

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  10 місяців тому +2

      Interesting, I haven't heard that before. It's also a bummer that Leupold only gives a 2 year warranty on those. If it were a Maven or a Vortex you could get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

    • @pd2865
      @pd2865 10 місяців тому +1

      I'm retired so limited funds. So I went with the Halo Z1200 on sale at Academy Sports. The Leupold was babbled, strictly ranges only. I shoot out to 1000 yards. I can use my Mil Dot Master, but I prefer to range several targets.

      My Leupold did the same just as the warranty expired. Leupold told me goodbye. Cheap import product with terrible customer service. Leupold is a scummy company. Stay away.

    This was a timely and great review.
    I did read the printed article on your website, which goes further in depth and includes other rangefinders.
    I have to ask, why the Mave CRF.1 was not included in the article? And where did it rank against all the other rangefinders in the review?

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  8 місяців тому +2

      It's not in there simply because I haven't yet updated that article, but it should be! Thanks for checking that out, I'll put that update on my to-do list. Check back in a few weeks. Thanks for watching!

    Very good review! Is it possible to have a range read from a specific point on a water surface? Fish activitity for example ( bubles). Thx

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  11 місяців тому +1

      Great question. Water is tricky for rangefinders due to the constant motion of it reflecting and refracting light all over, or absorbing the light in the water, so to speak. Since laser rangefinders use light, that creates a lot of noise and generally leads to poor accuracy or no reading at all on water. Either way, it's unreliable so it's probably not the right tool for the job.

    Looking for a range finder exclusively for Prarie dog hunting. Will these focus on small animals? Thanks!

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  11 годин тому

      Good question. I cannot honestly say since I haven't tried that. I imagine it would work out to a certain point, but laser light extends out like a cone. The farther away it is, the larger the "circle" of light. If it's all blue sky horizon behind a small target like a prairie dog, then, in theory, it should give you the distance of the whistle pig since it would likely be the strongest return reading the rangefinder receives. But there are a lot of variables there, so I don't really know. Come back and let us know if you figure it out yourself. Cheers.

      As I mentioned in the video the Gen 2 RX1400i is out now and the only change from the Gen1 I have is a software update that adds the newer archery holdover feature. I like to use gear for a while before I review it so I've had this Leupold for over a year and felt good about recommending it.
