Thanks for doing a video on the actual spirit of the house, not house spirits. My house definitely reached out to me and made sure I was able to purchase it. There's a good story there.

In my personal experience in the house I am living in for five years now, home improvements have been well received and made the energy of home more calm and happy. The previous owners neglected the house and let their two little boys destroy the walls, banisters, appliances, literally everything. I think my house is grateful and so happy because we are slowly fixing and treating it like a “home”. If that makes sense at all.

This is a very new topic for me. House spirits, seems like a very fascinating topic. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 🤘🍎🐍

I love the suggestions in this video! The place I live is a historic guest ranch built in the 1930's. It is completely made of local stone with some stucco on some of the walls. The first couple of nights after I moved in, the house spirit introduced itself by opening the bedroom door so it banged against the wall. After I formally said hello, this stopped. There is one stone shaped like a heart in the entryway. Touching this stone is my way of saying hello.

Loved this video! My partner and I have lived in this home for 24 years now and there isn’t a space we haven’t touched. We did a renovation/addition process in 2015. One thing that was a major focus during that time was adding red oak doors and floors to every room. I love my home and feel completely safe inside it. 😊 There are two spaces that need cleaning right now. One is the entire West wing flat and the other is our closet. I feel like I’m forever purging my closet 😂 I love seasonal scents and regularly burn candles and incense. I have created a seasonal altar in the heart of my home … It needs changing out … It’s still on Samhain 😂 I’ll clean it out tomorrow … Hold me to that!!! Thank you again for your wonderful videos and service to the witchy community! ❤❤❤

Sigh* this was so relaxing to listen to. I was revamping my altars while listening and closing my eyes thinking of my relationship w my home. I have so many ideas and just stopping to think about our home makes the bond so sweet. Thank you for this video ivy. It's a top special one for me 🙏💜

Thank you so much for doing a video on this topic! The house spirit and I have been listening and nodding all along. I moved in almost 20 years ago and lots of fun memories came up about the time when I started working with this old house spirit. It had not been recognised in a long time and didn't vibe with the owners before, it was withdrawn and a little grumpy at first lol. I'm just glad that my practice is in the hedge niche of the craft and it's not difficult for me to sense the likes and dislikes of the spirits that I'm sharing an ecosystem with. No vacuuming after it gets dark and absolutely no sage on the property (not even in cough drops or as potted plants lol) were funny pet peeves to learn about.

You've given me much food for thought (as always!) I've rallied against my house for 7 years because it's not where I want to be. Perhaps befriending the spirit of the house might serve me better than hating it. Now for a name...
PS I hope you had a lovely Samhain holiday 🫶

A lot of what you describe is practiced traditionally here in Japan! Most homes (very, very rarely, apartments, too) have a _kamidama_ , a mini Shinto shrine that is kept inside the home. One is meant to keep a sacred wooden tablet from the sun goddess' shrine (Ise Shrine), a local shrine tied to the land, and a shrine of a personal choice, and it's often believed that house god(s) live there as well. The standard offerings are salt, water, rice, and purified sake, and a particular local evergreen. Traditionally, these offerings are replenished once every day, placed in the morning (the gods eat before we do) and taken down in the evening. Rather than being tossed, these are consumed, and it's believed the gods leave their energy behind for us to partake.
I don't think anyone here would think of their "relationship" to the gods the way we do in the West. There's less sense of there being (or if there is, any need to understand) personality traits (until you get up to the greater Shinto and Buddhist pantheon, where they have their own drama), nor to necessarily name them (though I have named mine, but it's more simply a playful way to reference my house number). But there is certainly a feeling that we make offerings in both obligation and gratitude, and that they protect our lives.

I am so happy I stumbled across this video. I moved into a new construction and I am the first person to have ever lived in this home. I love it here but I keep hearing things and I am not sure what it is, but I keep thinking it’s the house? Is a house spirit possible for a new home?

    • @Moodymtmoon

New houses do this! My friend moved into a new home and the same thing happened, we ended up saying the house was growing up lol. I bet if you follow Ivy's advice you'll have a great relationship with your new home!

@ that’s exactly what it feels like! Like it’s growing. It’s so hard to explain without sounding crazy, but there’s knocking, and murmurs but I’m not scared at all. I’ve had scary experiences but this doesn’t feel like that.

A house spirit has nothing to do with the age of the home. It is the spirit OF THE HOME not spirits WITHIN YOUR HOME. There are both types of spirits in all homes new and old. But a new house is still a house, so it has a spirit.

Are those sunflowers 🌻 real flowers in a pot inside?!?!? If YES please tel me your secret! From seedlings 🌱 or are they fake? I tried growing them outside and they always get mowed down before they can grow because I can’t put them in a bed outdoors so I tried the sunny fence line and the sunny property line, but neighbors mowed them down and landlord made me cut back the “grass” by the fence before I could tell which were the flowers.

It's like, it helps with old grief. I put small drops in a candle. I can just feel the house likes it a lot.

This genuinely makes me wonder if there is overlap with my house spirit and Vesta, my patron deity. In a way I feel like she came into this house with me (I found this house in the nose lucky way when I was at risk of homelessness) and I swear, it's the first place where my spouse and I have never ever had an argument in almost two years. Yes because we are doing great work on ourselves but also... First time in ten years.
Ps: I'm definitely the person who has done the banishing with pots and wooden spoon banging 😅
