Keep in mind that any skid steers with a missing serial number plate could be on his dad's missing skid steer. It's common to swap the plates from a legit piece of equipment to a hot piece of equipment. It might be worth it to find the real serial number for the ones missing their serial number plate and then searching to see if you can find another skid steer with the same serial number. If that makes sense. You have to think like a criminal to catch a criminal.

it also could have been stolen then shortly after they stole it the skid loader broke down so then they just left it to rot. Then later down the road after they felt they have gotten away with it they decided to try and sell it. Just because no one added accessories to it doesn't mean it isn't the right one. I would rather look into all possible leads then skip over stuff.

They could be Prosecuted in Indiana this type of crime is a Level 6 Felony charge. and in Indiana the statute of limitations runs out at 5 years after the crimes committed but. Also in Indiana The statute of limitations is Indefinite given that there is a law in Indiana that this could fall under (Evading prosecution). Also, if a person tries to "evade" (avoid) arrest for a crime, the law gives the prosecutor extra time to file charges. In Indiana, the statute of limitations doesn't run while the defendant is absent from the state, conceals him or herself, or conceals evidence of the offense. and since its likely the person who stole it left the state with the skid steer that means that statute of limitations clock hasn't started until its known who did it. and if they lived in Indiana the entire time then that's something the dirt bags defense attorney could use in court to plead mistrial and drop the case/settle out of court and none the less if all this red tape stops the justice system from working. WD has enough money he could sue him into oblivion to the point where his or her retirement looks like a Chinese wok pan under a bridge. i know exactly how WD feels. Many years ago my dad bought a Equipment trailer had a pretty expensive trailer lock on it too. was hid behind the house we lived at at the time. someone snooped around on the property saw the trailer had the tools to cut the lock off hooked up to it and drove off. Dad called the cops when he got home found it was gone. real fine police work. that trailer probably looks nothing like what it used to. according to the Sherriffs department there was a trailer stealing ring. and he said they in all honesty don't have the funding or manpower to be able to find it he said its probably got no serial number anymore. or a phony serial number. or its been cut up. or re painted or a combination of all those things. Sad too my dad was proud of the trailer too. saved up for 8 months to get it. it was a nice trailer only had a couple minor surface rust spots too. to this day i still hop on craigslist and Facebook marketplace seeing if it'll rear its ugly head anytime soon. some meth head probably stole it and scrapped it or something.
the one of the unit outdoors is closer to his old unit, check the tires. the one stored indoors has had a seperate set of tires put on atleast 2 times whereas the one with photos outside still look to be original tires. not saying its not but usually in my experience stolen equipment sold cheap generally never gets maintenence and they fall apart
Some machines for sale online don't list the serial number. somebody with a stolen machine can easily use the number, that's viewable to millions to clone a machine. That's why lots of people won't do car fax checks, if asked in questions when selling online. It's also why the rules changed to a whole pile of hassle for bringing sold vehicles over the border between the US and Canada. It's to give the government agency's a chance to stop a stolen vehicle just driving or being trucked straight over.
Not to sure why everyone seems to think Deere SN plates are attached so well but working for Deere I can assure you they’re not lol. I’ve had SN plates come off with the sticky stuff on the back of a packing list envelope before on brand new machines.

That skid steer has been in Mexico for the past 10 years, it’s gone. As a heavy equipment operator it is very uncommon to recover stolen equipment as it almost always ends up south of the border. We’ve had four-five pieces id equipment stolen and only one ever recovered, all the others? Down in Tijuana running by the time you’re at the site the next morning.

I think they stripped the vins and sold it again for pretty cheap. Whoever bought it, may not even know it’s stolen. I think someone just has it sitting in their field somewhere probably not running. Maybe so, but you can't fault him for that. It's a sentimental machine he wants back, and if anyone knows the slim chances, it's him. But putting out a prize does two good things for him. It raises awareness which increases the slim chances of finding it, and it helps him grow his channel. Maybe he'll get lucky and find it or maybe he won't. But you can't hate him for trying.

I took a screen shot of the pictures and compared the rust spots and they don't match very well. There are areas that have paint and the same area of the other picture that has rust there. Unless someone painted it, it doesn't look like a match for both of them. But maybe something else will turn up with them
I think the one with the serial number is the Correct Loader due to the tire treads looking identical to Whistlindiesel's as on the other loader it has different tread on the tires So 1rst one is pretty sussy

Good video. I think people are right that its probably long gone. The most likely scenario where Cody finds them is that a family member or friend sees the video/reward and rats them out. Like Cody has said, they probably won't get pinned for that, but they're likely to have other stolen items that will maybe lead to *SOME* from of justice. It'd be wild if WhistlinDiesels Dads skid loader is just casually chilling in the woods on someone's property as we speek. Here me out. Before the previous owners sold the land to the new owners they had a timber forest cut down and the machine was used to clear the land of debris. The skid loader broke down mid shift so they left it there to rot in the woods. The owners were told to stay out of the woods and not to disturb the new tree growth or their investment would be ruined, so they did as they were told. Fast forward 20 plus years and their land is ready to be timbered again. They end up finding the skidloader behind a shed and two large cherry trees. BOOM. They are given the $500,000 reward and a hefty bonus from the $35,000 lumber that is getting hauled out by the truckload..
The odds this machine is still in one piece is very low and the odds that the person who stole it still has it is also low and the odds that whoever does have it will speak up are even lower
if the thieves still has it and hasn't sold it best bet it's in a million of pieces by now with all the risk of fines and lawsuit plus media on top of it

I don’t think it’s the second one because it looks too clean, no rust although it could have been very easily painted
