      It takes a lot of work!!! And sacrifices … Jason’s been doing Hay since 2007 in High School - I worked full time until the start of 2019 - so there’s a lot in between - we go without some things. We save until we can afford what we want - we rarely go out of town - farming is a lot. But so rewarding but challenging. I’m grateful and blessed.

    how many bales did it make per acre can you run it through a tub grinder or is it to wet

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  2 роки тому +1

      I’d have to ask about the tons per acre - it wasn’t our hay. We was just helping - and yes. He’ll use it in a TMR mixer.

    Have you and Jason considered having interns (non paid) join your operation? Either college ag students looking for credits or recent retirees just looking to contribute their talents to the communities? Have you looked at AG Bags for your silage storage this year, or are you planning on going the same as last? I hope the weather will cooperate and you can start mowing soon. Stay safe and God bless

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  Рік тому

      We’ve tried an “intern” before with our local FFA/High School for a bit - - we’ve learned over the last few years what works best is really just Jason & I doing “our” thing - -
      As far as the AgBags go fro silage - it would be handy, but also we don’t have the setup for it. We don’t hire out, we do it ourselves - so no need to buy a bagger / or try to rent out it out.

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it’s our friends. They run it just for wet baling. It’s definitely interesting to watch put up 60-70% moisture… especially when ours is 14% on the dry!

    Ok, a couple of questions: is there much danger of fire while wet baling. And won’t the wrap and heat cause the hay to decompose? Great vlog.

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  2 роки тому +4

      As long it’s wrapped well enough so that the bales DO NOT GET WNY OXYGEN - it will not (or shouldn’t catch fire) nor will it mold. The corn we baled last year the same way was put up about 70% moisture - and when we opened bales up to feed they were as fresh and green as if we’d baled it that morning!!

    • @logger1223
      @logger1223 2 роки тому +2

      To be a bit more technical, as long as the wrap is air tight the bales won't decompose but ferment in the same way as a silage pit does. The principle is the same it's making silage in bale form. Where I'm from which is Sweden we have moved away from dry hay almost completely for silage either in pits or bales. That's because we have quite a lot of rainfall year around and it can be challenging to dry hay. Hope this has been somewhat helpful in explaining the process, back to the heat issue decomposing generates heat fermentation doesn't.

    • @jeffjefferson3364
      @jeffjefferson3364 2 роки тому

      @@logger1223 fermentation certainly does create heat, infact one of the major losses during fermentation is protein degradation from heat, all living things create heat and as such so do the bacteria which convert sugar into acids that ferment the forage.
      In nordic countries they use a system where they add organic acids to the forage as its ensiled reducing the pH immediately, which keeps it cooler and uses less sugars to complete fermentation.

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  2 роки тому +1

      Good question, one I’m not 100% certain on as this isn’t our process but a friends (we just help out for them!) - my best guess is that this is available and paid for. Unlike getting a chopper and putting it into silage- but I’ll ask him the next time we are together!
