It is a bit late for this year but I could have Christmas cards available with some decorates freighter pictures.. hmm. That is a good idea! I also love her horn. I was lucky enough to get a salute from her earlier this year, she sounds very nice!
What a wonderful way to close the season on the Mac lock with the classy, timeless & stunning lady herself the Alpena ! Looking like the Ice Queen that she is. Thanks to the crew & their creativity she is spreading a lot of holiday cheer! At least we still have another three weeks (???) to go with the Poe lock. 👑🛳🧊🌨❄
Yeah, just about 3 1/2 weeks left for the Poe lock. It always seems like there is a huge rush towards the end of season. It might just be my own mind thinking that there should be a rush but it certainly feels like the rush has begun :)
Of all the ships Alpena is my favourite. She’s a pretty ship.. if such a thing is possible.. the grand old lady of the lakes. Thanks for the video and freezing your butt off. Merry Christmas from Calgary 🎅🏻🇨🇦
The Aleena sure is a classic old style freighter 😊 I didn’t realize the MacArthur Lock closed much earlier than the Poe Lock. Thanks for the video. Merry Christmas to you and Argo. 🎄🎄🎄
She is a beauty, that is for sure! The MacArthur lock closes roughly a month before the Poe lock and opens roughly a month afterwards. They already have the bridge across the MacArthur lock in place. They also moved the crane over the weekend which I imagine will be to put the stop logs in place so they can start getting it dewatered.
I have enjoyed many of your videos Congratulations again on 1000 subs Looking forward to seeing your next episode Your friend Scott on Vancouver Island Canada 🇨🇦

I was wondering about those bikes just before you mentioned them. I figure laps around the deck, or maybe if a sailors off duty while the ship's loading or discharging cement, they can ride them into town. It'd be interesting to know.
Since I recorded this, it got VERY cold for the official start of winter and today we are starting to warm up again. Rain is actually in the forecast again for the end of the way. Merry Christmas to you as well!
L'Alpena est certainement la plus belle dame des grands lacs mais pourquoi un homme sur le quai semble vouloir la tenir en laisse avec une corde ...merci de me répondre
I apologize that I do not know any French but I used Google Translate to read your message. The person with the rope is a deckhand that is lowered overboard as they approach the lock. When they get in to the lock, the deckhands on the ground will pull cables out to tie the ship in place. This way the ship can not shift forward or backward while being raised/lowered in the lock.
@@codyandargo906 Merci beaucoup pour votre réponse et de France, je vous souhaite " Merry Christmas ", un joyeux Noël en français pour vous et votre famille .
Thanks for posting. Love the Alpena. Was fortunate to see her in Milwaukee this past Labor Day Sunday. Merry Christmas Guys!

Wonderful! I would like to have her on my Christmas card. The Alpena is my all time favorite, her horn as well. Always watch for her in Duluth.

Beautiful video! Hi Argo! Merry Christmas guys!
Thank you! Merry Christmas ladies!
Her stern looks like something from the Edwardian age! Lovely!
You know, it really does now that you mention it!

Maybe they have a slow race around the ship? Where you ride, as slow as possible, without putting a foot down. Tricky if the water is rough! :)
The Golden Girl pretty Alpena! Thanks @Cody & Argo!
Argo the wonder dog!!!🐕
Pari Ann Hooven
Argo is a dog of many talents, that is for sure! :)

Bikes belong to the crew. When in port/dock, they'll ride off for recreation or personal errands.

You didn't wish the crew a Merry Christmas .
True but they were talking on the radio a lot and didn't want to interrupt.
