The part where Xiaoyao is talking about letting Xiang Liu into her dreams... I think she's afraid that if she started "dreaming" (thinking) about him that she might actually fall in love with him because he's not a typical guy that a girl would fall for (he's a fierce snake demon). 😢

XL kept pushing her away and setting her hopes up that's why she fell to TSJ and her love grew but no It was clear in the novel that she has undeniable feelings with XL.
