Jay Russell there’s FAR more going on than strictly the down force. Not only that, but you’ve mentioned a number that is VERY impressive. However they are a much better price point. So there’s that.
@@SillyDillysTunes I never compared it to the Corvette - which is anything but a failure; I just mentioned that the ACR has an absurd amount of aero - which is why it does so well on the track. It doesn't have a wing visible from space like the ACR, but, I bet I could see it from an airplane at 30,000 feet. =) I didn't downplay Dodge, the Viper, or its engine. I just stated that 1,300 horsepower is low for 8.4 liters. Period. Plenty of drag-week cars have more power than that out of 2 fewer cylinders and are driven on the street. It's not that hard to make big power these days - with much less than 8.4L in displacement, too. To be clear, I wasn't being salty; I was just saying that there's a reason these V-10's aren't all over the place: Big-block Chevy's make more power and torque pretty much everywhere on the curve; everyone and their mother makes parts for them; they eat boost and nitrous all day long; they're smaller, lighter, simpler, easier to work on, more common, etc.. I like the Viper - especially this one! I just know that I'll be putting a Big-block Chevy in anything I want to make big power. Heck, even a small-block Chevy can make 1,300 horsepower these days.
Jay Russell the issue with your statement is that dodge never did a company lap time for the Nurburgring. On top of that the ones that did run the car only had a complete run in the rain. The day that was dry, the tires were shot and it caused them to wreck the car due to tire failure. As far as the power number, they have to keep it reliable. At this power level that srt10 engine can run all day long hard without failing. There’s a company that specializes in making 2,500+hp vipers for mile drags and two mile drags. They didn’t used to focus on vipers but because they are so much easier to make power and to hold it reliably, sometimes on stock bottom ends; they use mostly vipers in their shop now. I can’t remember the name this early in the morning. But it’s a big name. When motortrend tested the zl1 it’s suspension just wasn’t optimized. They felt it was rushed to come out with the ACR and just didn’t compete. The ZR1 I don’t know too much about. However I have heard about their overheating problems for all Vettes that the company kept hidden and now it’s so bad that Chevy is at risking being sued because it’s believed they knew the problem and sent the cars out anyway. And no an LS May have similar torque but it will never make the torque power curve of a v10 from dodge. Not only that but the torque at higher horse power numbers is even higher. It’s actually a problem for companies to get a trans that can handle the torque. We finally have trans they handle it fine in the newest cars. You’ll find loads of huge horse power vipers that are consistent and reliable on track days and the street. But here’s the thing. The day that the small viper club wrecked their car, they were told as they were closing their lap that they were going to shatter the rear wheel drive manual record by an obscene amount. It was going to be unlike anything they had seen. But with small funding and one of their two cars down, they were finished. They had to keep the time they made the day before in the shitty weather because their day’s of track time were over that they paid for. It’s a major crime against MOPAR fans that Dodge didn’t fund a Nurburgring time of their own.
