    Toothless wanted an apology. He ddidn't interfere when they talked, he didn't interfere when she approached the area they used to train. He only interferred once Astrid started hurting Hiccup. As soon as he got the apology he wanted, they were good again.

    Interesting little story i heard:
    When Hiccup and Toothless bond at the end of forbidden friendship with the portrait drawing, Hiccup holds out his hand and toothless puts his nose into it.
    As part of the movement toothless pauses, moves back a bit, and then finishes the movement.
    The interesting bit, the pause and move back were an animation mistake, toothless was suppose to go straight into the hand.
    Instead what we get is it looking like toothless is very briefly reconsidering what he is doing and continuing anyway and is one of the most iconic moments of the series.

      As a Nordic, the relationship between Hiccup and Stoic was always relatable. especially thee moment he disowns Hiccup, but is then immediately struck by the severity of what he just did. it is a beautiful scene that takes deep understanding of Nordic culture to write well.

    Most of Toothless' behavior was modeled on cats.
    Note that his eyes change according to his mood. When he's upset or angry, his pupils are slit eyed. When he's feeling open or friendly, his pupils are round.
    I especially enjoyed the training montage, and Astrid's mounting frustration that Hiccup keeps coming out ahead, especially with tricks like the eel or the grass, which seems to have a catnip-like effect on the creatures.

      that's not how cat eyes work. the pupils are slit in light and sunny environments to keep surplus light out, just like in humans. in darker environments, the pupils become bigger and wider to increase light intake so that they can see better in the dark, just like in humans; pupils also widen when stalking and focusing on prey to take in as much detail as possible to increase the chance of a successful catch. this also happens during fights with other cats and playtime, since catching toys derives from their hunting instincts.

    *What I really love about Hiccup's and Toothless' relationship and the progress of it, is that Hiccup's end goal never was to ride a dragon and be the first to do that.*
    The only thing he wanted to do was kinda reversing the damage he had done to Toothless' tail and just get him to be able to fly again.
    Hiccup only realized during that progress that it would not be possible without him actually being on Toothless and controlling the prosthetic tail himself.
    That's the *only* reason why Hiccup ended up actually riding him at first.

    What I love most about this movie is that it shows that there are consequences for being the hero. Hiccup didn't just get a bunch of cuts and bruises. He lost his foot. The same foot, it so happens, that I lost, so I also feel he's a kindred spirit. 😉

    I'd add Astrid to the list of characters who is handled really well, I think her growth from being the archetypical viking, to being the first person to learn what Hiccup has discovered, and then being the person who loves him because she sees his qualities is another part of why this film works so well.

      Same here. Both the scene where Hiccup and Toothless do their big solo flight, and the one with Astrid were so beautifully done.
      One of the aspects of that flight with Astrid that I think gets overlooked is just how unique and novel an experience that would be for her, and Hiccup too, for that matter. For us, we take flight for granted. Even we have never flown, or hang glided, or skydived, the concept isn't outlandish for us. Consider their technology level, and lifestyle. No one of them had, most likely, ever been further off the ground then however high they could climb a tree. Being able to fly high enough to touch the clouds, and go fly above them would be inconceivable for them. Looking down through a break in the clouds onto the island they lived on would be a view reserved for the gods.
      With that in mind, that flight Hiccup took her one was of profound importance. Not only that, but he not only defeated, but TAMED the most feared and deadly dragon. One so mysterious no one even knew what it looked like. They he gets it to fly her through the heavens.

    Because Hiccup was born as a scrawny, skinny noodle and doesn't have the muscular Viking physique, he is unable to truly defend herself like everyone in his village. This always led him into trouble like what happened earlier. Everyone has to step in and save him, like what his dad did, and that always tires them cause they had to babysit a fishbone while fighting off dragons.
    Some dragons are based on real-life animals and objects to create their behavior, characteristics, and features. Like Toothless, the Night Fury is based on cats, black panthers, bats, manta rays, and a jet fighter. A Deadly Nadder on birds due to their bird-like movements and behavior
    Toothless and other Night Furies have retractable teeth that may protect them from being damaged whenever they fire their plasma blast

    This movie captured my heart back when it was in cinemas. The story is so heartwarming and the musical score is such a masterpiece. Definitely one of my top 3 animated films of all time.
    There was a Netflix series that sort of dove deeper into the adjustment the people of Berk went through adapting to life with dragons and fleshed out the supporting cast of characters which I thought was a good series, although not really a must watch. The other movies are really good too, hope you get to watch them both soon!

    I absolutely adore this movie and hugely regret not getting to see it in the cinema, I can only imagine how that flying scene would have felt in IMAX or even 4DX. I love all of these movies and eventually plan to watch the cartoon series as well but this first movie is and likely always will be one of my all time favourite movies.
    Also you're 100% right about the dragons basically being huge cats as that is EXACTLY true, Toothless's movements were based on recordings of one of the animators own pet cats which is both hilarious and adorable.

    A lot of stuff was changed from the source material, and I consider the books darker in tone.

    Something I've noticed that gets glossed over (mostly because the movie itself glossed over it - in fact the movie never once even mentions it) is that Toothless lost his tail BECAUSE Hiccup shot him down. Think about it....Toothless was flying just fine until Hiccup found him. Once Hiccup finds Toothless his tail is just suddenly maimed??? If it had been maimed before or was a birth defect (a theory someone once told me) then how was he flying with NO problems until Hiccup shot him down??? That could ALSO be one of the reasons Toothless growls at hiccup after getting cut free of the ropes. Toothless yelled at Hiccup for shooting him down.

    • @a_fine_edition2746
      @a_fine_edition2746 Рік тому +1

      I thought this was blatantly obvious lmao. Do people really think it wasn’t Hiccup’s fault? I’m pretty sure he even admits to it in the next movie at one point when someone asks about the makeshift tail fin Toothless has.

    • @patrickcromwell7554
      @patrickcromwell7554 Рік тому +1

      @@a_fine_edition2746 I don't doubt that you are right; all I'm saying is that this movie doesn't actually even try to explain WHY Toothless has a part of his tail missing. It's just part of the movie.

    • @a_fine_edition2746
      @a_fine_edition2746 Рік тому

      @@patrickcromwell7554I felt like it was pretty much implied considering Hiccup deduces that Toothless can't fly away because he's missing the tail fin. The movie doesn't have to spell it out, but I feel like it's very much confirmed when he says "I did this" upon seeing Toothless shot down and refusing to kill him.

    • @patrickcromwell7554
      @patrickcromwell7554 Рік тому +1

      @@a_fine_edition2746 I don't disagree; but I have seen people ask: "How is it Toothless can't fly NOW, when Hiccup shot him down from flying before?" Just in case someone was watching and not really paying attention, I just wanted that to be put out there.

Not gonna lie, even tho I truly love your channel, the movies/shows you've covered lately have been a bit hit or miss for me personally. So again, seeing this come up made me smile ear to ear! So glad you're doing these movies! I know you'll love them and they may possibly even change your life! I rewatch the whole trilogy at least once a year and it always gives me whatever I need at the time. So cheers V! And enjoy! I'll be following right along with you!😉👍

    A lot of people will say that the next two movies are even better.
    I disagree. The animation does get (even) better, but I still think that HTTYD I is the GOAT. THAT being said!... The next two are just AMAZING (simply illustrating how highly I regard the first), rounding out a FANTASTIC trilogy and are absolute "MUSTS". Please react to them (to the trilogy) asap.
