Ian Walton is a self taught artist who started painting in oils aged 13.

The knowledge of his subjects stems from being a passionate mountaineer and glider pilot.
Ian Walton is inspired by the power of nature, in particular the sky, mountains, and the sea. Ian works with a limited palette constantly striving to capture the drama of strong light and shade . Artist’s statement
For as long as I can remember I’ve been drawn to the sea the sky and mountains . I think it’s the solitude, and also in a big way the vastness of our planet and how small we are as individual creatures. I stand in awe at the power of nature . My never ending goal is to try in some small way to portray or capture this.
After over 35 years I’m still learning and I still want to experiment with images. Unlike many artists I don’t want to stick with a tried and tested style or a formula that sells . Its nice when someone says ‘ is this one of yours ?’
I believe artists grow if they experiment and keep pushing the barriers ,and create at their best when they have a connection with the subject.
I try to paint every day, worried that I might not still be able to do it tomorrow ! In recent years my work has become looser and I try to avoid labouring over small areas. Capturing strong light and shade is very important to me. I love to work on bigger canvases. It gives me a greater sense of still being there !

Hi folks thank you for all the wonderful comments. I'm currently climbing in The Dolomites and will get back to you all asap
Wonderful! Chatty gentleman as he works with great tips. Thanks Ian!
Loved this, know all the places well, so good to see a 'local lad' on here! Wonderful art, really captures the spirit of the places. Good to see our miners honoured, many of my family men worked down the pits and my Great-Grandfather was fatally injured going back to rescue his men after a pit-fall, he was 27, can't imagine. Love the environmental passion, too! Great inspiration, thank you.
Thank you very much for your kind and thought provoking work Debra . Please tell your friends about the series . We want to build the British audience, and recommendations from existing viewers makes a massive difference. Best wishes Ian x
@@ianwalton3112 Of course!
Great video looking forward to seeing more of Ian in CIYL.
Thank you so much Paul . Keep watching my friend . best wishes Ian
Will do:)
Oh my goodness! Mr. Walton, I am over the moon looking at your skies---no pun intended. Your method of painting the shadows first never occurred to me before. I am going to try that and hopefully I can finally paint clouds that I am pleased with in my own work. Beautiful work, just gorgeous. Thank you so much!
Thanks for your comments Diane, always great to hear from our fans, Graeme
Hi Diane thank you for your compliments . Dont forget how useful the human finger can be when it comes to painting clouds ! Stay loose !
Absolutely great idea to include litter in your paintings. People will look at these gorgeous paintings of gorgeous landscape then to be saddened by the litter. That really hit me. recently moved to Monterey CA. I always walk the beach path and down on the sand by the water. You see families with young children- only to look around them and see all the litter that they are not bagging up. when ever I walk to the water I always bring a bag with me and try to pick up as much garbage as I can. The adults are setting an extreamly poor example for their children. they have these pristine areas that they come and visit (because they are clean and gorgeous) only to leave behind trash that others will end up cleaning. Also it's extreamly destructive to all the wildlife that will come into contact with it. PLEASE SET A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN. SO THEIR CHILDREN HAVE THIS PLACE TO COME TO, AND GENERATIONS TO COME!!!!! PICK UP AFTER YOUR SELVES!!!!
I hear you!
Cool! Great idea! I've been watching Graeme since his inception. Keep up the superb work Ian, Leon, Graeme and the team!

Why did Ian stop doing the presenting of Colour in your life? He was great.
he hasnt ,we just have to find more artists, the UK are artists are very conservative, Graeme
I worked so hard to get Atelier paints carried in the US and now I want to try these Alkyd paints LOL. Hey will you do a show on just paints, maybe as a bonus episode!! I would love that. I don't know if anyone else would? Thanks for all you do!
Hey Kevin I've spoken to directly to Winsor and Newton about the griffin Alkyd range, and how they need to do more to promote the product . It has after all been on the market for 40 years, believe it or not !
Very impressive sky
Thanks Raymond , I really enjoy painting skies !
Hugh Greer is one of my major influences I'll have to check this guy out, he's very similar!!

Another great video Graeme. I think it is absolutely fantastic that the show will be spreading to other Countries! Congratulations on what you have started and where it is going.
Will the new show in the UK also be uploaded to UA-cam?
Yes Lance and also the other countries that we are training people in. This will end up being the largest site in the world on Artists from across the world, anyone not on board will not be seen, Graeme
Lovely, but quality of video was a bit blurry.
Does Ian have a UA-cam channel?
I think he is beginning to put one together, Graeme
