Couple of things that caused issues down the road in this video. 1) toque the tappet cover bolts to 18 fl/lbs. I had mine too lose and it started leaking again. 2) The VP44 bracket MUST be trimmed to fit!!! Not trimming it resulted in a bad seal to the timing cover and it leaked oil there as well. 3) The 2 holes in the side of the billet cover are meant for a catch can on higher boost motors or the 12v. Leaving them open eventually led to leaking from them. Use 3/4" brass plugs to plug them, or buy the catch can kit.
I’m in the process of changing the cover in my truck. When you take the cover off will a lot of loyal spill? Do you have to drain your oil completely to be able to change this cover? Thanks!
I had my tappet cover swapped by a shop because it had a bad leak. They installed a billet cover. Now my truck makes this annoying humming noise that I know is for sure coming from that area by the injector lines but the shop is throwing their hands up saying they don’t know where that noise is coming from. Any ideas what it might be? The noise gets louder as I step on the gas but doesn’t seem to affect the truck.
I recently installed this on my 01 and after grinding the bracket down and installing the bolt holes do not line up, my question is it absolutely necessary to have the bracket on?
I did plug the vent holes, keeping the factory one in the timing cover. I'm honestly not a huge fan of this cover, without the aid of sealant it does not seal well at all.
On the Back of the VP44, there is a rear bracket. With this tappet cover it hits and you cant line up the pump. Need the corner ground off until it fits, had to grind off some of the bolt head that's there as well.
Mine is pouring oil. Literally looks like adding syrup to your pancakes. But with diesel at 6.39 a gallon. I will probly just plant flowers in the bed. and park it in the yard. 🤣
Lol, that sucks. Honestly even this tappet cover was a pain in the butt to get to seal. Best bet is the stock one with NO RTV, that's where I messed up.
Honestly I'd never even heard or considered that. At this point it's all new with a new red head steering box, so probably not worth it. But definitely a good consideration for someone who has worn out stuff

Thanks for doing these Vids, I have the exact same Dually and have leaks galore. These have been helpful in slowly fixing the leaks. Keep it up!
Thanks brother! Appreciate the support!
Call it the poor man's rustproofing

No, very little oil drains out, it all sits in the oil pan which is a lot lower in the engine.

I'm not sure, if I had to guess I'd check the fuel line routing and make sure the plastic keepers are not broken or missing.
@@AllThingsBoost I’ll check that out. I appreciate your feedback. I’m a new subscriber
Fan of them vp trucks. Nice videos and nice truck take it easy man.
Any tips on removing the tappet cover?
Yeah, don't loose the VP44 key in the timing cover. But seriously, not really, it's pretty straightforward
Was wondering how this tappet cover is holding up , I just ordered one off eBay and wondering if it was worth it
So far so good, but I've only had it like a month. We shall see how it does in the long term
@@AllThingsBoost good to hear ! Keep it up
I had to take a grinder to mine for the vp44 to fit. Pain in the ass. Should have just put back the factory cover.

I don't know unfortunately. Never looked into it.
Thank you for the response, I left it without the bracket guess we’ll see how she holds up after time. Great videos!
@@danielbelmontes4085 hope it works out for you!
Mine had no bracket when I went to remove it….never had any issues
What did u do with ur fuel return line?
What do you mean? It's in its stock location doing its return line things.
@@AllThingsBoost think he means did you just bolt it back to a tappet cover bolt or just let it hang there I was wondering the same
Looks great! 👍
Where'd ya get that bumper
With the truck, not sure on brand or any details unfortunately
Did you plug the vent holes? Did that work?
I did plug the vent holes, keeping the factory one in the timing cover.

Wish I had found your video sooner 😢just received my billet cover hopefully it will at least leak a little less then what it does now .
Can you elaborate on the bracket trimming modification

@@AllThingsBoost gotcha. I did my tappet gasket and already see wet spot aswell. Any leaks after everything?
@@roelangel2008 yep. Still leaks. Getting ready to pull it off again and liberally apply RTV to it and see if that does the trick.
@@AllThingsBoost man that sucks lol.
@@AllThingsBoost did you ever seal the billet cover? My tappet is leaking for the second time already lol. Fixing to order billet

Why don’t you convert it to rack & pinion so you will never have to mess with it supper easy on a 2wd!!
