How dare they rebrand polite pleasantries as offensive/hate speech/sexist, or whatever the heck they call it these days.

I stopped off at a Cafe the other day and the nice old lady called me Darling/Dear many times and I found myself getting rather emotional as it reminded me of my Grandma.

Darling & Sir has been used for over century in England, it is known for a jolly way to communicate and interact with others, it's British culture...end of !!

Kim is right! When does that woman go shopping? I've never been called darling or dear in a shop. I call lots of people darling, and to be honest, they normally give a big smile back. I think many are just snapped at, by grumpy, irritable, frustrated people, most of the day, and seem very happy to be treated with more respect.
I couldn't care less, as long as people are nice to me, that is more important to me. It annoys me that younger women complain about everything and get validated. They have no clue how hard life used to be for women in previous decades and even centuries
I first discovered Kim doing a Downton Abbey Comic Relief cameo. Knew nothing about her. But the moment she said Darling and My Love, I immediately liked her. Especially the way in which she says it leaves no room for interpreting it as anything but loving. The girl on this show is, I think, referring to the condescending way men use it to address females where it sounds patronizing and diminishing. Like she’s just a dumb, helpless pretty face with nothing upstairs.
I am American and adore the Darlying and My Love business. I first found out it was a UK think when I would hear Paul McCarnty refer to people all the time as My Love, and thought it was the sweetest thing. I am someone who loves UK culture. My icon photo is actually Kate Bush.

I have always liked hearing people say terms of endearment if they mean it. The nice thing about Kim is that she used those words a lot in her old show, and I found it refreshing. Actually, I'd rather not hear it from a man because it might sound flirty.
I've been called darling, love, dear, sweetheart even blossom and I've never taken offence to any of them. As Kim said, you're just looking for something to talk about. Some people take things so personal....Get A Life!!!!

I personally disagree with Kate but I must say she is a very eloquent speaker and I like listening to her. It's her preference not everybody is going to like being called darling. Tbh darling sounds aa bit too overly familiar but most of the time I like terms of endearment like dear, love etc...
